Ford Focus ST Line X 2019 | 3 Good 3 Bad

  • The new Ford Focus looks fantastic. By far the biggest improvement is the cabin quality: it’s on a par with the VW Golf and Mercedes A-Class. There are a host of new engines, and a new 8-speed automatic gearbox you’d actually want to choose. Space is in plentiful supply, especially in the back. The only downside: the price is also on a par with the VW Golf and Mercedes A-Class. And the options lists are longer - and pricier - than before.

I just brought the 1.0 ecoboost 125bhp and it's OK ish on normal short roads, but when you take it on a lomg road it's so lagging power. You put your foot down and it's like zzzzz stuck with it now for 4 years.

Had my 1.5 st line x (182bhp) for 3 months and absolutely love it. Would strongly recommend manual over auto. I was given an auto version as a courtesy car and hated it. Sport mode is lovely and I only choose eco when in rush hour traffic. I went through an online company that rhymes with bar pow and saved about £3k off the book price ;)

Rich Ghost how do you find the real-world economy of the 1.5 EcoBoost?
A good friend of ours has the 1.5 EcoBoost 182 petrol with a manual gearbox and speaks very highly of it in terms of performance, but his real-world mpg is nothing to write home about...

A smith if I were going out to buy one tomorrow - I’d have the auto.
It’s a really smooth gearbox and works well to make best use of the limited power available.
With the 1.5 EcoBoost 182, the Focus has more of a ‘warm hatch’ appeal. So in that sense a manual will be more engaging.

    I have a Ford Focus 2020 ST-Line X 8 speed auto MK4
I have had non stop problems with this car. However, I persist because I like it.
    *short story*
I got the vehicle on 9,000 miles.
Prior to collecting from Company called Cazoo they stated the gearbox was broken. They stated they then fixed it with a ‘software update.’
Driving it for a while, I would notice when coming off the accelerator there would be a ticking sound. You could hear. However, disappeared when going back onto the accelerator. When shifting from P, R, N and D it has always been a bit jerky.
It went to Ford numerous times and they always stated cannot find customers complaint with the engine and ticking noise as well as numerous engine, warning, lights and drivetrain problems popping up on the dash.
Finally, it got to 30,000 and the engine blew up. Thankfully still under warranty with ONE day left.
So at the moment on the clock, it’s down 33,000 miles in which three of those 30,000 have been driven on the new engine.
So that is the story of this Focus, hopefully it helps.
My one question if anyone can help or relate is: when I shift from R to D the car jolts forward every time as if you were driving a manual car and stalled. However, does not do this on a cold start. Ford are useless and can someone with a brain please shed some light.
All other autos I’ve driven and other ford focus’ do NOT behave like this.
Personally, I would not recommend a Focus unless its an engine above a 1.0L and a manual.
    Thank you so much!

I just got rid of my 2021 ST Line X auto (ironically it went back with 9k miles), had from new (Motability) - worst car I have ever driven, probably forgot some things but:-
      A) Accelerator latency/delay is horrible, pulling out at roundabouts for instance, was borderline dangerous as the accelerator would take 1-2s to actually respond, unless I briefly floored the accelerator, this got it to "wake up" - this resulted in a jerky car ride, not very smooth at all. The latency would only happen sometimes - which made it impossible for the dealer to diagnose, so I just put up with it.
      B) Random electrical faults, I had the full digital cockpit, which would randomly lock up (speed showing 15mph for instance, while stationary) requiring me to restart the vehicle, sometimes would take 2-3 attempts. Infotainment system as well would randomly restart while driving. My window-washer alert *never* worked, it never knew when it was empty.
      C) Persistent poor tyre tracking, after 2 alignments, vehicle would still pull to the right, was worse in some instances but was manageable
      D) DPF consistently being blocked, even after a 30 mile motorway run, next day, DPF blocked again (In all fairness the car was mostly used for short journeys, was not able to get the petrol variant at the time as I was under 25)
      E) Horrific fuel economy - averaged 26mpg, never saw higher than 31mpg for the 3 years I owned it
I have now got a SEAT Ateca which I picked up 2 weeks ago, 100x better than the POS ford. I do wonder if I got a lemon car...

    • @louiscooklin4072
      @louiscooklin4072 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Wow…. Yep, never getting another Ford again.
My engine blew up at 30,000 miles.
      Thankfully under warranty.
Car runs fine at the moment!
Just the semi-auto transmission is horrible when shifting to P,R,N,D. I have to reset the PCM on forscan every so often and it fixes the jerks.
MPG is good though, roughly 50mpg on every drive.

Can anyone advise… does the ST line X come with the interior scuff “ST” guards and the alloy pedals, or is this something you have to buy extra? Same with the red break callipers. Is this standard on the ST line X or extra cost?

How much can I reasonably haggle a Ford dealer for a 2nd hand 2019 Focus ST Line, there's ones going for 16/17K with less than 10K miles on the clock, is there much wiggle room for me as a cash buyer? Any help would be appreciated.

REDKN1GHT 19 There’s probably some room to haggle there. Motorpoint have a lot of Focus ST Lines in at the moment. Mileage is a little higher but they’re around 15/16k and they’re the ST Line X specification. Worth a look for sure!

REDKN1GHT 19 you should be able to get a better deal as a cash buyer. But a couple of points to note:
      1. That’s not true of car supermarkets like Motorpoint. They work on low-margin, high-volume and make virtually all of their profit on finance arrangements. So no discount for cash.
      2. Sometimes you can bend the rules of finance agreements to get discounts. For example some dealers offer you £500 discount for taking finance, but you need only take a minimum amount (day £2,000) and can pay it off in full after 24 hours, paying

      @@asmith9040 A smith Hello buddy.
      Yeah I got the new ford focus 1.5 st-line x ecoblue 120.
These engines have been newly created and are supposed to be one of the most economical engines available. We both haven't had ours long enough to be run in properly but I've noticed that my fuel economy is increasing all the time, getting 43 mpg and im still putting it in sport mode with instantaneous fuel delivery on.
Motorway journeys should have cylinder deactivation which even though you don't know when cruising one shuts off.
I wish I had gone for the 182 automatic now!
I've gone for the magnetic metallic grey paint and is an estate but doesn't look like one. I was gonna get the light blue but it is a vehicle that everyone sees coming again lol 😂.
See how you get on when we both run them in properly!
Yeah I've had terrible malfunctions with the stupid electric handbrake. I drove van's for 12 years and got into a physical activity of leaving it in 3rd gear.
Now im definitely operating it properly and once the car was on a hill and a woman came running in saying my car was rolling down the road.
I've never had a accident or even been pulled over by the police but had 2 pulls now for no reason at all! WTF! Probably would of been on a 5 count if I was in the Desert island blue.

I’m taking that with a pinch of salt! But I’ve tweeted forduk asking if it’s true. No response 5 hours later. I expect their marketing people will be deciding how to respond. Was a guy on the fordownersclub.com been waiting 5 months on a vignale focus. They also have the 182 engine. Says his car is in uk but ford aren’t handing them over! Maybe they’re fixing the fault before handover to avoid a costly recall. Who knows! I’m gonna check my Twitter just now...if it’s an interesting response I’ll post it on here...

owo never really noticed this: it’s difficult spending just a week with the car.
Manufacturers have to finely balance weight and cost saving in their production methods with solid and robust build quality.
That’s a fine balance, and has resulted is some flimsy-feeling panels/bumpers/trim.
