    All these viewers know you are the man Joe . I’ve got to say you make some of the best most in-depth step by step detail videos. You make it were us middle class people can do there own repairs. I love working with my hands and I’ve got 3 boats I can’t afford to pay someone to do work on them . Joes videos is making it were I can do repairs my self and I really appreciate you and your time.

    Joe, we are doing a refit on a 47ft sailing yacht in The Netherlands (Europe). Your channel presents a lot of top notch information for anyone working on a grp build boat. Cannot thank you enough for all the time you take to meticulously explain us how the pro’s do it. You’re an excellent teacher ! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Cap'n Joe, I can not begin to thank you enough for your videos. I know you are very busy but just wanted to let you know SE Asia is watching. I am an American living in rural Thailand (Chanthaburi). I am in the process of cleaning up and repowering a 1994 Yamaha YDX27R fishing boat. The hull is in great shape but after removing all the fishing gear I have a bazillion holes (big and small) to fill. Also the gelcoat is faded and has many scratches and dings from commercial fishing. Our plan is to convert the boat to a snorkel/dive tour boat. It is the dry season now so I am getting after it. I appreciate you giving all the options for materials and tools. Many things, even simple things are difficult if not impossible to find. American and European products are insanely expensive to import. An example is I have been looking for paint tray liners of 10 years and just found one in a hardware store a week ago. Thailand is a developing nation so we are getting there. Vinyl Ester resin is proving to be a challenge. Mostly I get the "Deer in the Headlights" look. I found some in 1 liter bottles from Pro Marine and it comes with a little bottle of MEPOXE which is fortunate because I can not find MEKP at all. Polyester resin and Epoxy is easier to find but I want to use Vinyl Ester as per your recommendations. Is there a way to test the vinyl ester resin to determine its quality? For marine ply everyone says just cut a test piece and boil the heck out of it. If it holds up it is good. Anyway thanks again for all your and Logan's hard work. God willing I will get this project done. If you ever come to Thailand our door is open and I would be proud to take you and your family out to the islands. Dennis Alston

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am glad to hear that you are enjoying the channel Dennis! I understand that finding the same materials overseas that we have here in the states can be a challenge for folks. It is difficult for me to say how well the products you can get in Thailand will compare to what I am showing in our demonstrations. Even though I prefer vinyl ester as a really good all around product, epoxy and polyester based products can still absolutely have a place in making a quality repair. You just have to weigh the pros and cons, and even availability in your case. We have well over 100 videos on the channel that might give you some of the knowledge and insight you are looking for to help you with your yamaha boat repairs. I wish you all the very best, and I appreciate you watching all of the way from beautiful Thailand!

    • @dennisalston2801
      @dennisalston2801 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Thanks again for your videos. I have watched many episodes so far, some many times taking notes. I will continue to watch as well. I have started using an asian shopping app to help find products. I have been able to find many more things such as MEkP, Cab-O-Sil, and even Peel Ply. There are many copy products here in Asia some good and some not, just takes time to sort it out.
      I would like to add that as I drill out screw holes and start sanding surfaces I am finding that the Yamaha boat was not built with the same level of craftsmanship I am seeing in your videos. I am starting in the engine compartment so if I make mistakes it is not so critical cosmetically speaking. Next I will work on the bottom, the deck, top sides, then cabin hopefully getting better as I go.

    Hi Joe, your videos are great! We just bought a new cottage on Georgian Bay in Ontario Canada. The cottage came with a 1988 Tadenac 22 with a serial number of 0002!. It’s a Deep V hull fibreglass boat designed by Mark Ellis…. It’s a great boat but it’s showing its age. Lots of chips and stress cracks in the gel coat. I wanted to tackle the fibreglass repairs but didn’t have the confidence to do it as I’ve never done any fibreglass work before. Your channel has convinced me to do it! Thanks for all the great information! Brad

    Another excellent episode. Sanding indeed requires a significant amount of time. As the guide coat reveals the low spots, it's necessary to sand down the entire area around it, as demonstrated, rather than just the immediate vicinity of the low spot. Sanding only the immediate vicinity would result in an even larger low spot.

      I generally like to see 60 degrees or better for gelcoat work, but some good sunlight can help with curing. • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying the channel! Gelcoat is usually pretty forgiving when it comes to working outside. To help reduce dust, you can gelcoat a day after it has rained, or you can use a water hose to wet the ground around the perimeter of your work area. Breezy days can also kick up dust and debris, so light winds are better. Bugs can also be an issue, but they seem to be more of a problem in warm weather and closer to dark than in the midday. A good pair of fine tipped tweezers can also be helpful, just in case you get something in your gelcoat. I hope this helps, and I appreciate you watching and commenting!

    Hi Capt. Joe, I have a 2001 2100DC Angler that I'm thinking about restoring and re-powering. The hull is 100% wood free and I feel this would be a good candidate for the restore. It has some stress cracks that I may try to repair. I will also need to deal with the fuel tank, which is located under the floor with an access panel. Many of the cracks are in the corners of the access panel. I am located here in Navarre FL (just East of Pensacola). Do you have any thoughts or advice on doing a restore on this?

      The Angler sounds like a good project boat! There are obviously lots of variables with any kind of boat restoration. How much time, money, your experience level, for example. I will be actively working on our 21 ft Blazer project boat, which will likely have many of the same issues that your Angler may have. I would imagine this upcoming video series will help answer some of your questions and concerns. We also have tons of general boat info videos on the channel that should shed some light on things. I also offer direct consulting through Patreon, and I will be opening up some spots for that very soon. I hope this helps, and I appreciate you watching!

    I have a question: What makes gelcoat turn yellow/ brown? How or what do I need to fix this issue. I would appreciate your response from the professional. 1999 triton bass boat that has been in garage since I bought it.

      Nope, not yet. He got it painted and back in the water but had to get back to work on another project. I hope to help him get it ready to sale soon, and I will be sure to give you all a video update on his progress. Thanks for watching!

    Great Videos Joe & Logan
    I'm in Ireland and refurbishing my 17 Foot 1976 glass fishing boat. Can you give me advice on filling the gaps between where my Cabin top meets my gunnels all the way round the boat. I need to re fit a new D Strip all the way round the boat. I can get the West System products in here in Ireland.
    I have to re do the floor of the deck and was going to use 1708 and epoxy.
    any info would be great
    Thanks Joe..
    Happy Xmas 👌🍺🍺

      Yep, good tip! Sweaty hands are definitely NOT the best when putting on gloves. Thanks for watching and commenting!
