I wish there would be more video´s like this. Thank You. To the point, with excellent comment and tips showing how to do such a job. No beating around the bush. Just excellent Many thanks
You are amazing! You are a great teacher !!! I hope you will offer hands on courses one day ( I am very intrested in restoring wooden boats). Can I ask you how difficult it is to get Hondurian /Costa Rican Mahagony?
Thanks for the comment 😁 Some sort of fiberglass boat restoration classwork is an idea I’m toying with. 🤓But unfortunately I don’t do wood boats or wooden boat building in the Boat Werks.
@@motorcityboatwerks I just assumed that you do some sort of wooden boat restoring since you show us many wooden restoration projects. I just starting to restore a T&T boat and have many questions ;) Do you know by chance a place which deals with vintage outboard engine? That means which sells parts for it?
Most boats have some woodwork that needs to be done😁👍 and often the skills are transferable. Just because MotorCity Boat Werks works primarily with fiberglass boats doesn’t mean there wood knowledge or boat building going on. 😎🐙Check out the episodes in the channel playlists and see the variety and scope of the projects under way. You’re gonna love it 😁👍
That’s an impressive project! 😁 You Motivate me 😎 Patricia,be sure to join The Werkers on Patreon (there’s even a free tier) in case I give away a copies of my book on Restoring a Classic ⛵️ for Christmas 😉🎅
Welcome to the Boat Werks Mario 😁 I’m not familiar with Danish Oil, but interior applications offer some variety to exterior process. On the interior is about personal preference. 👍
Good work again Joe. Sikkens is a great product. I often use 3M pads for scuffing between coats---they have a product for that purpose--although it doesn't look as good as using 220, there's a lot less cleanup. Maybe it was urban legend but I understand years ago Tiara was persnickety enough to require all the wood in a given boat had to come from the same tree--IMHO that's overkill. It's a boat and not a crime if every piece doesn't match. Your Skipper 23 looks interesting.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing Your expertise. I am looking to restore the teak benches on my sailboat, but I am not sure if making it with Cetol won't make it too slippery. Do You have any advice for that?
Welcome aboard 👍😁 It won’t be too slippery😂🤣the smoothness of the surface is directly related to how smooth you sand it. Follow my instructions. Don’t worry you’re going to love it 😊
Great video!!! I have a 1988 catalina 22 with weathered silver teak. I have one question after watching, in 12 or so months whats the process for recoating? Take all the wood off the boat and repeat this process, or just add a coat with wood on the boat.
Good question. If you follow my method you should get 12+ months maybe as much as 18 or more. To recoat: You leave the wood on the boat sand lightly -tape off the deck for spills and then just recoat in place.
2 more questions. 1: how do you know when it needs recoating? 2: when recoating, am I just going to add 1 application of the top coat gloss? Or will I be doing base coats and gloss coats?
Nice enough for me, but have you ever considered wood bleach? It might offer you answers on problem peices in matching wood. John's Furnature Repair and a lot of other channels have covered this,
Thank you for the comment 👍. But not mixing and matching different species like mahogany and teak. This process is about fast and easy long term and easily repairable 😁
I hear this suggestion a lot 🥸Teak oil does nothing to address the texture of the wood over time and just prolongs the inevitable cracking and splitting. 🐙In addition teak oil is not a viable solution for wood that has already weathered or mix matched. 👎Wood that has weathered and already turned gray with exposed grain cannot be restored with teak oil. 👎

Would you recommend sanding mahogany and applying Danish oil for an interior door application. Thanks. I am a new viewer. Great product you put out.

Top coat gloss always has to go on base coat. You will have to judge for yourself when and how many coats you’re comfortable with. 🤓
Woot!

Dave you are The Man! Thanks so much

How about using teak oil? Trying to avoid how varnish and cetol chip off
