I'll bolster my previous statement, that you NEED to experience this firsthand. Words dramatically fail to capture the experience. You literally can't tell someone what it is like, because there's nothing on the planet that can comare. This is so much more than simply racing. This is spectacle.
Honestly, I WILL experience first hand before I die 😂😂 I'm glad you enjoyed 💪🏻
@LarsonPetty the first time I went to a nhra event, I was not prepared for how the sound affects you physically. The smells the sounds, and the way it hits you in the chest it's something I'll never forget. Every motorsports fan needs to go to a NHRA event and a nascar race. I've been to f1. The speed is impressive, but it's not even close to the overall experience as nhra or nascar
My friend, im am privileged to live near Gainesville, Florida. home of the Gatornationals, where they first broke the 300mph barrier. I cannot stress how right you are about experiencing this firsthand. To feel the power through your body is unimaginable.
BTW, Megadeth has a song about drag racing called 1320 🤘its a thrasher!
And now I love Megadeath EVEN more 😂😂 you're a lucky man being able to grow up with such a melting pot of people! Glad to have you here my friend
Its one of 2 sporting events ive ever been to, next to boxing/mma, where soemthing is always happening to keep you interested. Last time I went, a Piston head landed in the grand stands. (They're as round as a 2 liter bottle)
@@Hellfire0220 that's wild!! The speed it was coming at the crowd, lucky nobody was hurt!! Thank you for finding the channel and commenting Hellfire, you're a legend 🤘🏻
I went to an NHRA Sunday event something like 30 years ago. Don't even remember where. Lost the photos I took.
The ground literally trembled under their power. The thump to my chest is something I'll never forget. Back then, Top Fuel was reaching 290 MPH in the 1/4 mile.
Today they're MORE powerful and hitting 320 MPH in the shortened 1000-foot strip. It's amazing. Wear ear protection or you WILL receive hearing damage. The scream of those engines at the end of the run is unforgettable.
And be seated UPWIND. :)
I appreciate the advice greatly Riptide! Ear pro is a MUST
"The air bags a little slow" 😂 bro that was the perfect quote for that 🤣
😂😂😂 glad you enjoyed Brandon
I highly recommend watching MightyMack's video "why NHRA moved to 1000ft" if you want to see more stuff like this!
Thank you TGL!! That's a damned good idea, glad you enjoyed
@@ExploringTheSmoke it's quite an emotional video, but it tells an incredible story and how the sport has improved safety in recent years
18:49 John Force is legend. Been doing this for over 50 years.
He is indeed!! I've been told/seen so much since the first video I did, he and his family are INCREDIBLY talented racers
I go to at least 1 NHRA race every single year. It's an absolute blast since every ticket is a pit pass. The smell of the Nitro is amazing but it's definitely something you have to experience in person. TV doesn't do it justice
Thunder!! Welcome you lucky son of a gun! I know now DEFINITELY I have to witness it in person as seeing it on screen will NEVER do it justice
@ExploringTheSmoke I first went when I was 8 years old. I'm gonna be 31 this year. Been hooked ever since. Been a fan since I was as young as I can remember, but going to the track to see everything is hands down the best
@ExploringTheSmoke and from what I've heard, when the Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars are in Charlotte or Las Vegas racing 4-wide, it registers on the earthquake scale. I wanna go to Charlotte to experience the 4 wide
@@Thunder-mt4gi and you still have all your hearing in tact?? 😜 It certainly looks like good fun
@@ExploringTheSmoke I'm honestly surprised I'm not deaf yet 🤣🤣🤣 I haven't used earplugs since I was 15 lol
One thing to keep in mind regarding the pro stock and pro modified classes is that those cars, unlike the Nitro or Top Alcohol classes, have virtually no downforce to keep them from flying up in the air. Overcorrecting in those is especially dangerous. And there are times where those classes are not allowed to compete on days where there’s a high crosswind going over the track.
Thank you Jedi! I appreciate the knowledge, glad you enjoyed the reaction
The scariest crash i think personally was between two pro stock cars.
Kenny" captain chaos" korestsky and Bruce Allen.
It's a savage crash. Luckily no one died
Thank you BS, I'll have to keep and eye out for it
Ive been to hundreds of races. You cant imagine how it feels in the stands. Ill put you up for the week, US Nationals in Indianapolis.
@@mjhillen now that is an incredible offer!!!
You are very correct in saying that the Pro Mod crash could've been much worse. I was once in the pits, as part of a Sportsman class racing team during a loosely regulated test and tune session.
There was a privateer Pro Modified team a few spaces over from us that were trying to get some shakedown passes in, and they were having a bit of a problem with the machine, as the nose kept trying to lift at 200+. They took practically all of the downforce off the rear wing and pulled back into the staging lanes to have another go. This would prove disastrous.
Near the 1000ft mark, the thing broke loose at 206mph and clipped the wall on the driver's right side. This was back in the IHRA days, and that sanctioning body was always a bit more lax when it came to the safety of everyone involved (spectator, racers, and staff), and had both outside divider walls much closer to the racing lanes than NHRA mandates.
In addition, some smooth brain decided it would be convenient to having a couple of narrow access gaps just wide enough for a person to pass through cut into the walls to ease track workers and medical staff coming on and off the blacktop. When the Pro Mod Corvette hit the wall, the driver had the extreme misfortune of doing so at one of these gaps. The inertial impact of the car clipping said wall void caused it to be violently thrown to the opposing wall in mid air. The car's roof came violently into contact with the corner of the barrier. Think of it as the car was basically curb stomped, with the roof caving in just above the driver's head.
Of course, it had a full cage, but even that can only do so much. Such high speeds and proportional weights are still subject to the laws of physics and the sfety equipment bent right in on him. The cage and helmet initially saved his life, but he was paralyzed from the neck down. Years later, complications from these injuries are what eventually took him out. Back then, I had heard he and his family were going to sue the track/sanctioning body for damages. Had it not been for the pass throughs cut into the concrete, he would have likely just scraped down the wall, with the only possible injury being his ego. Since that day, every time I see a car upside down in mid-air, my heart drops.
Wow.....I can only imagine. Thank you Larson. You're a real one
@@ExploringTheSmoke 👍
You're actually the first person I ever seen laugh at these.
Speed is exciting 💪🏻💪🏻
Look for Lucas Oil NHRA drag racing series. Also look for Z Max Dragway, at that track they run four at a time with the fastest two cars advancing to the next round. Also, Pro Stock class, mostly Camaros, they run six seconds in the quarter mile. 500 cubic inch engine with a five speed gearbox. And finally Pro Stock motorcycle, 200 mph in the quarter mile.
Scrambler!! The knowledge is always welcomed and wanted!! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed 💪🏻
I actually have the privilege of living a half hour away from Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA. I spectated the NHRA drag races no less than 7 times and watched a single nostalgia drag race and a sportsman category only drag race there. That's a grand total of 9 times.
I've gotta ask....does your skeleton just continuously rattle in your body!! 😂 That's absolutely incredible that you get to see such awesome machines, glad you enjoyed
It does make a mini earthquake through my body. Thanks for your reply.
@@Nlangkirby135 thank you for commenting and watching 💪🏻
Hey, Friday September the 13th of this year marked a significant milstone of mine, the tenth time I went to the drag races at Maple Grove Raceway!
Actually the NHRA has 2 races each year that are in the 4 wide format, one is in Las Vegas Nevada, the other is in Concord North Carolina, the other 24 races are traditional 2 car races.
Thank you Keith for the kick ass knowledge! Glad you enjoyed
If you ever get to come for a visit, i volunteer to be the tour guide for my area!...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠

It makes pretty much every other Motorsport look tame 😂 thank you for watching Joseph, glad you enjoyed
Your vids are AWESOME
No no no, YOU are awesome 💪🏻
Bro are you from the UK if you are we have one of the best drag strips in Europe it's called santa pod... go there feel the earthquakes from top fuel dragsters then you will understand the noise
We do indeed!! Hoping to get to see them sooner rather than later 💪🏻

'Jet fuel' is simply 'kerosene'
Oh believe me I know that now 😂😂 thank you for watching Erol, glad you enjoyed 💪🏻💪🏻
No jet fuel or any other kerosene is used in racing at an nhra drag race. The fuels are racing gasoline [super high octane pump gas] methanol and nitromethane.
@@artartful854 And that stuff ain't used in jets.
@@erolbulut2584 Jet fuel or kerosene-from the German Kerosin-refers mainly to aviation fuel used to power aircraft jet engines. Is something else used now ?
Jet fuel is a clear to straw-colored fuel, based on either an unleaded kerosene (Jet A-1), or a naphtha-kerosene blend (Jet B). Similar to diesel fuel, it can be used in either compression ignition engines or turbine engines.
Funny Car explosions are worse than Top Fuel because there in front of you
I gotta be honest....any explosion is no bueno in my books 😂 glad you enjoyed Christopher, thanks for watching
You need to react on this video
Which video?
More Megadeth please

You think these railcars are dangerous, the slingshot style dragster from the 50's to the 70's...those were dangerous when you're sitting over the cars pumpkin behind the engine...people lost limbs or worse or died...
I didn't even stop to think of the earlier iterations of these!! Thank you Jep
