Shall we watch Rocky 2? Like the video above if you want to see it!

Not just Rocky 2 but the whole shebang!
If you loved this one, you'll definitely love the second one as well! Maybe even more. When you watched part 2 you'll probably realize how rhetorical that questions was 😉😁😅.
Of course,my favorite saga of all time, including the 3 Creed movies.
Yo! Absolutely…
Without Question...YES!!✌
This movie does a great job of showing the trauma of growing up and living in poverty. Adrian accepts her brother's abuse, Pauly self-medicates with alcohol, and Rocky is so full of doubt and the fear that he's just another bum from the neighbourhood that he never even took his shot. None of them feel they deserve anything more, none of them think life can be better because for people from where they're from, life rarely is any better. They can't see success around them, with most people around them struggling just to survive, so they can't really imagine ever being successful themselves. You can't become what you can't see as they say.
It's such a great screenplay with such great characters.
That was beautifully put. Thank you.
@@1RedHyena You are most welcome.
Sylvester Stallone always says that this isn’t a boxing movie, it’s a love story. It’s one of the best love stories ever, also the training montage still remains such an iconic scene.
I feel like this movie invented the training montage.
You beat me to this comment and it is so true
@@NewBritainStationI think old kungfu movies (especially starring Jackie Chan) did that first
@@wampatan9 doesn’t surprise me. I’m sure Rocky wasn’t *the* first, but it’s probably the one that made it a thing.
@@wampatan9I mean, Jackie Chan began his career after the premiere of Rocky, so I find it difficult
I love the slow realization people have, as it dawns on them that Rocky isn't actually a boxing movie. It's a love story with some boxing in it.
Adrienne is played by Talia Shire, Frances Ford Coppola's sister and Nick Cage's aunt. She's also in The Godfather.
"Where's your hat?" One of the most understated lines in cinema.
Adrian NEVER went out in public without a hat; they provided her a sense of protection.
The hat falling off, AND her leaving it as she ran to Rocky after the fight, is symbolic of her no longer needing one.
It's not a sports movie - it's a love story with a little sports in it 😉. And so is part 2.
Eh, "Rocky II" is the opposite of the first movie. It's all about the rematch. The love story is secondary. :-/
Sure about that? There would have been no rematch if Adrian didn't gave her approvement buddy. @@ConstantineFurman
Agreed, it's basically a rom-com before rom-coms were a thing
@@ingobordewick6480 That's not what I'm talking about and you know it. I'm referring to the tone of the movie. And yes, I'm sure about that, buddy.
@@ConstantineFurmanit’s not the opposite at all, it’s an extension of Rocky as a fictional autobiography
*Really wholesome story about the dog in the movie and how Stallone got "Rocky" made:*
Sylvester Stallone was a total unknown before "Rocky". The only movie roles he was able to get were mostly non-speaking ones. Everyone had told him he'd never make it as an actor. In large part, it had to do with the way that Stallone looked and talked. When Stallone was born, there was complications and he had to be pulled out with the forceps. Unfortunately, the doctor misused them and it caused partial paralysis in his face, which is why Stallone talks the way he does (he slurs his words) and why his face is a little droopy. Which is why he had so much trouble getting parts. In fact, it was actually his struggles in Hollywood that inspired Stallone to write the script for "Rocky". He wrote the film specifically so that he could play the lead role but no movie studio wanted to buy his script. Also at the time, Stallone was living in extreme poverty (he only had $106 in his bank account) and he was forced to sell his dog Butkus (the dog in the movie) cuz he could no longer afford to feed him. He sold him to a man outside a liquor store for $25. He walked home that day in tears, saying it was the saddest day of his life. When Stallone finally found a studio who liked his script, they offered him $125,000 for it but Stallone wouldn't sell it unless he could play Rocky. The studio said no because they wanted a big movie star to play the lead. They even offered him $325,000 for the script but Stallone still said no. The studio finally gave in and let Stallone play the part but they only paid him $35,000 and they gave the film a very small budget, thinking that it would fail. Once Stallone got paid, he went back to the liquor store and waited outside for 3 days straight, in hopes of running into the man who bought his dog for $25. When the man finally showed up, Stallone offered him $100 to buy his dog back but the man said no. Stallone upped his offer to $1000 but the man still refused. After an hour of negotiating, the man finally agreed to sell back his dog. And guess what it cost him? $15,000 AND Stallone had to give the man a part in "Rocky"-- it's the man who plays Mike, the short guy who works at the gym. So, Stallone put his dog in the movie and put the guy in the movie and paid him $15K when he only had $35,000-- that's how much Stallone loved that dog. It was his only friend at the lowest point of his life. Expected to fail, "Rocky" was a surprise hit and it became the highest grossing film of 1976, making $225 million (the budget was only $1 million). It made Stallone into an overnight star and the film won the Academy Award (Oscar) for Best Picture. The majority of the film's success is attributed to Stallone's keen and intuitive sense of writing and to his iconic performance. When you watch the film knowing the backstory, you realize Rocky's story is Stallone's story. There's so much pain in Rocky's eyes and in his voice, and that's because the pain behind him was real within the actor playing the part. It's why this story is so universal and relatable, and why it has touched audiences around the globe. The story behind the movie is an underdog story in of itself. Life imitating art at its finest.
p.s.: Stallone to this day still has a photo of Butkus as his desktop wallpaper. Just in case you hadn't cried enough.😄
This is a legit real life movie for Stallone's journey
I'm kind of sad that Stallone sort of departed from movies like Rocky and the first Rambo. He moved into the action genre and just never seemed to catch that level of genuineness again, at least for me. It seemed it was all just big stunts, big effects, big booms and lots of blood. Sure the Rambo 4s and Demolition Mans were fun but they never captured the level of emotion that either Rocky or First Blood had.
Not to mention the fact that Stallone had the very rare achievement of being Oscar nominated for both acting and screenwriting for the same film.
And, most important of all, Stallone STILL has those turtles! 🙂
yep the turtles after the movie stayed with the pet shop owner and he kept them there, until the pet shop eventually closed up. The shop owners son contacted Sly in order to get the turtles to him. I'm not sure if Sly paid him for the turtles or he was given to him, but yes Sly still has his turtles.@@THOMMGB
I always took Mickey telling him to stay down as a sign that he didn’t want to him to get hurt - and by extension it implies that he cares about him. Possibly my favorite moment in the movie.
In boxing, there is something called taking the 8-count. Instead of popping right back up, boxers will "stay down" to give themselves a few extra seconds to clear their heads after a hard knockdown. When the ref hits the count of 8, they stand back up.
@@TheReverendStrange Yeah, but do you think that’s what the movie wants you to think he was doing? Maybe, but certainly the less dramatic interpretation of the scene.
@@BClarke Yeah, I honestly think that's what the movie wants you to think. Otherwise, Mickey is basically telling Rocky to give up. Why not throw in the towel then? Even before I heard of "taking the eight", I always figured Mickey was just telling Rocky to milk a few extra seconds. Listen, this is one of your favorite moments, so I'm sorry for stepping on it. Enjoy your interpretation.
Mickey definitely wanted Rocky to stay down for the 10-count to protect Rocky. He had taken too much of a beating and had nothing left to prove. Mickey didn't believe Rocky had any chance of winning by that point (late 14th round).@@BClarke
@@TheReverendStrange You definitely misinterpreted that scene. Telling someone to "stay down" is a universal phrase for "it's over, stop fighting". Mickey was telling Rocky it wasn't worth getting permanently injured and didn't think there was a point to continuing the fight.
Butkus was actually Stallone's dog. Prior to making this movie, Stallone had to sell Butkus, because he couldn't afford to take care of him. When he sold the script, he was able to by Butkus back.
It was more improvised
The guy he sold Buktus to was also in Rocky as part of the deal to buy him back.
The guy in the cabby hat is the guy Stallone sold the dog to. He asked Stallone for a large amount of money for the dog or be put in the movie. Stallone put him in the movie.
Rocky is one of the greatest characters in all of cinema. Just a genuinely good person and is an inspiration to everyone.
I could not Agee more. I have him ranked as the number one best character in all of cinema.
This is my absolute favorite film franchise. There's nothing else quite like it where you can watch the life of a fictional character from 1976 to 2018.
@Shawnpatrick That is a bang on description and to think how many of us as fans have grown up and grown old with him .
He'll always be one of the greats .😄🥊
Rocky 4 is still my favorite. Don’t @ me
In a way even till 2023, because he is mentioned in Creed 3 and the music pops up.
The thing about Rocky movie series is....they're ALL good in their own way. It teaches you different lessons in every movie about the human spirit. Please react to ALL of them Jen.
Watching Rocky evolve into more than a punching bag is a strong part of the series.
DO NOT WATCH ROCKY 5
@@UpTheDown7 nonsense, one has to watch ALL of them. There is too much connective tissue to skip any of them. Five is definitely the weakest of the bunch but it is hardly unwatchable.
@@dnish6673 I think 5 is worse but 4 is definitely overrated.
@@cerealkiller3632 woah woah spoilers bro. jesus
Sylvester wrote this movie and won an Oscar for this!!!!
Those Turtles are Sylvester’s real turtles and they’re still alive !!
And the dog Butkus was his real dog too!
"A hundred and fifty dude, and still young!"
I've taught a screenwriting class and I always use the scene of Rocky and Mickey as an example of great writing, because when you think about overcoming obstacles it's not just physical - it's like you noticed, so much of it is about his self-doubt and his emotional baggage. And he spends the first half of the scene trying to avoid Mickey because he doesn't want those pent up feelings to come out in that cramped little apartment; but once he finally exhausts that anger, they can work together. After several long minutes of him saying "NO" in every way possible, we don't even hear the "yes," we just see it from a distance with that music. Such great writing and acting. That picture Mickey shows of himself as a young fighter is a real picture of the actor Burgess Meredith when he was in a Broadway show about a boxer called "Golden Boy."
Always loved that scene, especially how the reconciliation didn't need to be shown in any more detail -- we all knew how it needed to go, for both their sakes. We all love ornery old Mickey ❤
But that’s more related to the directing, I think
It always gets me in the feels when Rocky says "I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood."
Sylvester choreographed the fight scenes.
Yes a fight lasts 15 rounds , no one thought he’d last beyond round 3 , he proved them wrong!!!
not any more
now they go 12
Rocky is a great movie. It teaches a lesson. Never give up. Rocky went the distance with the world champion Apollo Creed. Everyone said he did not have a chance. Rocky fought hard and he won respect. That is more important than any World Title.
Something I didn't appreciate until the last time I watched this is how the announcement of who won the fight is barely audible in the background, all that matters is that he's still standing and Adrian is there with him. It says so much about his character in that moment :)
I've read people saying that Mickey wanted Rocky to stay down and recover for 8 or 9 seconds before getting up, but personally I think he wanted him to give up in order to avoid even more damage in what was a "simple" exhibition, but Rocky wanted to go the distance no matter what!
It wasn’t a simple exhibition, the title was on the line. He told him to stay down because he was worried about Rocky’s health if he continued.
I think you can read the scene in both ways, but I personally believe Mickey was just worried about Rocky's health!
Definitely to keep Rocky from getting killed or permanently injured.
but couldn't mickey throw in the towel if he actually wanted it to end
@@andrew1497 He could have, but by telling Rocky to stay down, he's including Rocky in the decision. I'm sure, Mickey kept a close eye on Rocky, once he got up, towel in hand just in case.
The music itself is a character in this movie, and a compelling one!
"Rocky is a love story with 15 minutes of boxing at the end."
It's a story of self-discovery and perseverance.
This is one of the few films to make me cry at the end. It's such a magical build up to the final round and even though Rocky doesn't "technically" win the fight, he wins so much more.
The loan shark is such an interesting character. It always warms my heart when he spots Rocky for the date, and when he gives him the 500 no strings attached.
The guy in the lime green suit was 'Smokin' Joe Fraizer. A real life world heavyweight champion and boxing legend who fought a famous trilogy of fights with Muhammad Ali.
Joe Fraizer lived in Philadelphia for a large part of his life. It was a great cameo from him in this movie.
The true victory is that he found love ❤️
The triumphant song they were playing while Rocky was running/ training that song won the Oscar!! Gonna Fly Now !!
I love the scene when Mick comes to ask to be Rocky's manager. Golden!!!
That is fire. Rocky just unloads on Mick but in the end he forgives him because he likes him and knows he needs him. I love that scene.
Mickey wanting Rocky to quit being a leg-breaker and focus on becoming a boxer. Mick saw the potential in Rocky, but Rocky didn’t see it in himself.
Definitely! One of my favorite movie scenes of all time.
This boxing movie sure is a wholesome love story between a good-hearted meathead and a painfully shy pet shop girl.
33:27 I always start crying at this part. Rocky JUST. WILL. NOT. GIVE. UP. And Creed so wearily realizes that this guy, this nobody, this “chump” is an absolute bulldog who refuses to quit. He will fight until the very end and then keep going, even if the cause is lost, even if there’s no chance of success, because at the end of the day, HE IS A FIGHTER. He fights to stay alive, he fights for every scrap of goodness he can manage, he’s like so many of us, fighting and scratching and clawing your way to get ahead and keep yourself sane in this crazy world. Rocky inspires all of us who are tired and frustrated and feel like giving up. He reminds us all that it’s not about how much you can hit, it’s about how much you can get hit and can still stay in the fight.
The steadicam movie camera was invented for this movie. So a cameraman could follow Rocky on his runs but being able to keep the camera shot level.
“I love an underdog!”…well Jen you’ve definitely come to the right place..can’t wait for the reactions!✌🏻😃
There's always an even greater woman behind every great man. That's Adrian for Rocky and she ain't afraid to tell him what he needs to hear. This is a real Ride N Die couple.
Stallone is not just praised for his iconic performance but his screenplay is also hailed for displaying an almost literary genius. Aside from:
--the clever, quirky, and funny dialogue
--the realistic, sympathetic and colorful characters
--the astounding character development
and
--the overall interesting, relatable and universal story
Often overlooked are Stallone's profound themes of redemption, forgiveness, and human beings getting a second chance at life. The overall story is Rocky being given an opportunity to redeem himself, to overcome the low self-esteem that has kept him from being the boxer (and the person) he could have been. Adrian overcomes her shyness and abusive relationship with her brother. Mickey overcomes his ego to humble himself and admit his mistake in not helping Rocky earlier in life. And, these themes are reflected in symbolism throughout the film (below). Scene after scene reflect the film's themes of redemption, forgiveness and second chances:
1. In the opening fight scene, it appears Rocky is losing to Spider Rico after that head-butt however Rocky REDEEMS himself and goes out strong, knocking out Spider Rico in the process.
2. The man at the docks whom Rocky collects from. Rocky refuses to break his thumb and gives the man a SECOND CHANCE.
3. When Rocky's boss (Gazzo) confronts him about his refusal to break thumbs, Gazzo forgives him and gives Rocky a SECOND CHANCE.
4. Rocky walks Little Marie home, giving her a pep talk about the nature of reputations in hopes she turns her life around -- REDEMPTION.
5. Apollo Creed has to cancel his bicentennial fight after receiving the news of his opponent's broken hand. The event is REDEEMED when Creed has the epiphany to rebrand the fight as an American Dream story by giving a local unknown Philadelphia fighter a shot at the title.
6. After the original opponent has to drop out of the fight, Apollo Creed gives Jergens, the fight promoter, an ultimatum to replace him with a suitable contender. Jergens REDEEMS himself when he successfully pitches the idea to Rocky.
7. Mickey asks to be Rocky's manager in an attempt to REDEEM his own once promising career that never really took off (due to Mickey's lack of good management over his own boxing career). Rocky forgives Mickey and accepts his offer; Rocky gives Mickey a SECOND CHANCE.
8. At the meat packing plant, Paulie and Rocky get into an argument. Instead of fighting Paulie, Rocky takes out his aggression on a big slab of beef, giving Paulie a SECOND CHANCE in the process.
9. After Rocky tells Adrian that he doesn't want to "fool around" and to just make the meat, he apologizes to Adrian and she forgives him -- REDEMPTION
10. The dog at the pet shop, Butkis, gets a new lease on life when he's adopted by Rocky -- SECOND CHANCE
11. Again at the meat packing plant, Rocky gets angry with Paulie over the reporter. Rocky forgives him and give him another SECOND CHANCE.
12. In the scene with Paulie's outburst with the baseball bat, Adrian overcomes her shyness and her abusive relationship with her brother, finding REDEMPTION in her relationship with Rocky. And at the end of Paulie's outburst when Rocky grabs him by the collar, he seems like he's about to beat up Paulie or threaten him, however Rocky feels sorry for him and just lets it go. He gives Paulie another SECOND CHANCE.
13. After Paulie's little outburst, he asks Rocky's permission to capitalize on Rocky's name. Rocky forgives him and gives him another SECOND CHANCE.
SYMBOLISM:
The film's overall story is centered around the concept of the American Dream.
The film opens with an image of Jesus-- as the story of Christ dying for our sins and being resurrected is a story of REDEMPTION.
Images of the burned-out city of Philadelphia rising up to host the Bicentennial.
The pet store symbols; the dog being released from his cage, turtles coming out of their shells etc.
As Adrian starts to overcome her shyness and "comes out her own shell", she sheds her glasses and drab clothing and she begins to dress more attractively (her red outfit that Rocky compliments her so much on-- "you could be a heartbreaker" he tells her).
Rocky's face at the beginning of the movie is bruised and stitched up but is healed up before the climax (and quickly bruised up again lol).
And the steps: As you pointed out in your review, the first time we see Rocky run up the museum steps, he is struggling and is gasping for air-- which is a metaphor for the uphill journey Rocky has ahead of him. And by the end of his training, he can run up those steps effortlessly, signaling his triumph. The locations of his training regimen is also metaphorical. Every day Rocky begins his jog from his home (located in a lower class section of town) and ends his jog in the more intellectual side of town (the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum). He runs from the bottom to the top (both physically at the museum steps and metaphorically in his journey). He then faces the city from which he came and raises his hands higher than the skyscrapers. The symbolic nature of the shot is astounding and to this day, it's still one of the most inspirational images from any film I can think of.
And also gotta love the foreshadowing; the never-broken nose gets broken, Rocky breaking the ribs in the beef slab (foreshadowing him breaking Apollo Creed's ribs), Creed and his publicists not paying attention to Rocky punching the beef on TV (foreshadowing their surprise upon realizing in the climax that they completely underestimated Rocky's potential).
There's a reason why the Writers Guild of America named "Rocky" as one of the greatest screenplays ever written. Not many will say it, but the film really is a masterpiece... at the very least, screenplay-wise.
i say this on every reactor first watching Rocky... this isn't a boxing/sports movie series. This is a love story that involves a boxer. One of the greatest ever told.
The scene of Rocky struggling to get up and Adrian closes her eyes always gets me.
You are going to enjoy this epic series… gonna be so pumped and also have your heart-strings tugged at… outstanding pieces of film.
This is the best Rocky , 1970's Philly rough and gritty sets the scene perfectly , great cast and music score . I love it ❤
OMG! I didn't realize you hadn't seen this, Miss Jen! I'm excited!
Rocky Balboa is the greatest movie character of all time. Nearly 50 years of a character is so rare.
I think I'm about to watch Jen fall in love with Rocky. The character and the movie. Should be fun to see. Good choice, Jen.
When Stallone was shopping this around to movie studios, many liked it, but wanted someone else to play Rocky. Stallone stuck to "You can have the movie, but only if I am in it." and the rest is history.
"I feel like you've got to be able to take a punch to be a boxer". Indeed. You could even say it's not about hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can BE hit and keep moving forward.
absolutely watch them all. It’s an ongoing series, a soap opera sort of because the characters grow and develop. They feature good guidelines for dealing with struggles in life.
You seemed as engrossed in the movie as I was when I first watched it. It gave me flashbacks. I think you hearing the Rocky theme for the first time was my favourite part! It's so iconic. I would absolutely love to see you react to the rest of the movies!
This was good timing too because Paulie's actor, Burt Young, died just a month ago. And you'll happy to know he was the exact opposite of Paulie; nice, quiet and very artistic.
Quite the treat when you've seen a couple dozen Rocky reactions and then out of the blue a Top 3 channel reveals she hasn't seen it yet. Ooh yeah, Rocky and Jen is reaction paradise! Saw it in the drive-in many many years ago, and it never gets old. Let's see what ya bring Murray. And...GO!
There is a lot of information about this movie that I am sure some people will cover in the comments. If you never watch another Rocky movie, the next one is a must. It is really a part two. BTW, I was thrilled that one of my favorite reactors was first time reacting to this film.
Burgess Meredith was an icon as Mickey. During Rocky’s rant “At least you had a prime!” you just felt this 100 pound man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. And when Rocky came outside to make peace, the weight lifted.
I loved this! Your music first approach is always appreciated by me! Please keep going with the series! It's gets even better!
"you have to be able to take a hit" this is the theme of the entire series
Loved revisiting this movie with you jen Adrian and rocky are just the cutest together and its always wonderful seeing how much you enjoy the music 🎉 i watched your full reaction and cant recommend your patreon enough 👌 have a wonderful evening and a fantastic weekend jen 🥂
Rocky is one of the greatest characters in film history. You can't help but love him. Hope you watch all the movies. Like all franchises it has its highs and lows but the character of Rocky always remains great.
This franchise is definitely worth watching in its entirety. Some entries are better than others, but they tell a great overarching story, and each should be seen *at least* once. And definitely watch the three Creed films as well; they continue the story and are also very good.
Great stories always bring out the best in the already awesome Jen.
This was the first major film to use the newly-invented *Steadicam* which replaced the bulky dolly system that made smooth camera movements and replaced it with a handheld system.
You can see it in the ice skating scene, the running up the steps, and of course, the fight.
Thanks jen glad you loved it . Would love to see more rocky
With the passage of time, one of the most entertaining things about watching others react to Rocky, is that with most, they expect a caricature, instead they get a character-- heartfelt and thoughtful fleshed out. ❤
This is the best Rocky by miles... Wonderful movie.
I have a friend who used to be a debt collector for a bookie, and he told me "You didn't break bones because they needed to be able to work to make the money to pay the debt, but you always left them bloody."
I'm rewatching all your Rocky movies this weekend, and I'm reminded that when I was 12-13 years old when this came out, and Star Wars, too. The only way we could 'revisit' the movies was by listening to the soundtrack on vinyl! I listened to this album over and over just to imagine the film over and over in my head. Same with Star Wars. Anyway, times before VHS, DVD, or streaming... Were different times.
A love story with a little boxing thrown in. Buckle up! And, yes, all the Rocky's and Creed's please :)
Watch them all. They decline some after 3, but each has something worth watching for. I saw 4 with my brother opening night. It was like being at an actual live event. We were standing and yelling at the screen.
My father always pointed out the scene where Rocky chases after Mickey in the street. When they shake hands, my father said that Rocky is a portrait of a decent man. I was a kid. Never forgot it.
This is the film that catapulted Sylvester Stallone to stardom. He wrote the script and starred as the underdog protagonist. It was not just a box office success but also a critical one as well. It was nominated for 9 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Film Editing. Stallone himself was nominated for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Both his costars, Talia Shire and veteran actor, Burgess Meredith, were also nominated. The score by Bill Conti was incredibly inspirational. This was a film meant to be viewed in theaters.
"Yo, meet me on the corner - I wanna doo wop for awhile" 😂😂😂🖒🖒
Mick wanted Rock to stay down in the 14th because he had already taken so much punishment and he was looking out for his health.
Jen, I was in high school when Rocky was released and it is a GREAT franchise, there is an over-arching story that connects all of the films and it is really done well. Along the way you will laugh and cry. I think you will really like it. Rocky is one of the very few films that I will watch ANY time it is on.
Jen: “Work the body!” Love it. Great reaction to this classic
First time I've caught a Jen Murray & her Serious Girl Spectacles Premiere and I'm so glad I did. Great film, great reaction, definitely looking forward to more from this series.
Happy Weekend Y'all, and Cheers from the East Coast. 🥃☮❤
Winner of 3 Oscars including Best Picture!
Was excited for this one, yet to hear of anyone who didn't love following Rocky through his life. It's hard not to root for one of the most likeable characters ever created!
Yeah, Stallone's performance is great, but Talia Shire man... when she confront's Paulie, I still get chills.
Hopefully, She gave Him some Chills too...👍
I absolutely love the Rocky movies ever since I was growing up Rocky is just one of my favorite characters so motivating great gym motivation 2 the part where he was actually screaming at Mick when he was leaving his apartment was pretty much Stallone actually letting down his real emotions to his dad in real life I remember him talking about it in a recent documentary also in real life the big dog named buttkiss was his real dog the Rocky movies are so inspiring
you're comments on the music scores always brings a smile on my face😘😘😘 thanks!!!
NO WAY!!!!! THE SAGA WITH JEN LETS GOOO !!!
Yo, Jen! Great reaction! 🥊
Jen! You wanted us to let you know if you should watch the rest of the movies: YES! This is a good franchise, and you discovered why...it's not about boxing as much as it's about Rocky's struggle to overcome obstacles and his relationships, mainly with Adrian, but also with his friend Paulie. Oh yeah, there's boxing as a backdrop. Please continue. :)
More than a sports drama and all about the heart.
What it really means to go the distance.
The highest grossing film of 1976.
Winner of 3 Academy Awards (Best Editing, Best Director and Best Picture).
Stallone was nominated twice, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor in a leading role.
The budget was $1 million and the salary was not in the millions for any of the castmembers.
Other than playing the character, he actually wrote the fight between Rocky vs. Apollo and
was credited as 'Boxing Chorographer'.
Stallone of Hell's Kitchen, N.Y. was an underdog in the film industry.
Pre-Rocky; he had roles in other films, theatre and television.
Worked so hard to write and create a story with characters close to his heart.
Just like his Rocky, so much to prove to the industry.
Btw, Stallone is Italian for Stallion, thus 'The Italian Stallion'.
If your watching the sequels, get ready for quite the journey.
RIP to Burt Young as Paulie.
Just learned he passed away.
YO Jen, OMG This is one of the BEST movies ever! So glad yous watched this one. And now to continue with Rocky ll and beyond! Rocky 3 is my favorite after 1&2. Oh and the music is Epic!!! Luv the training montage! Time to learn about boxing!🥊🥊Luv ya Jen ❤💛
"Is he gonna beat up some meat?" 20:46 😂
In the recent documentary on Stallone on Netflix ("Sly"), he's listening to an old interview of his where he's talking about what Rocky is (it's not a movie about boxing). He kept listening to the tape and willing his younger self to just say it's a love story.
The lead singer of the doo-wop group was brother Frank Stallone, and the bell-ringer of the big fight was Stallone’s dad.
The last line: “I love you”
Jen, you should get the original DVD to this movie. Has excellent making of and the best commentary of most actors including Taila Shire, Carl Weathers and the recently late, great Burt Young who played Paulie, RIP. His part of the commentary is some of the best calling Stalone a poet. At 10:45, very interesting story about that turkey, by the way, in the commentary.
The guy in the lime green suit was a famous boxer Joe Frazier!!
Whenever one of my favorite reaction channels watches Rocky, I can't wait for them to see the sequels -- especially 2, 3 and 4. Part 2 is my favorite sports movie.
Rocky's speech to Adrian on the bed is gold.
Greetings from Finland girl!!! Finally!!! Welcome to Rockland!!!!
All the Rocky movies are worth watching. I'm especially fond of the last one (Rocky VI) aka "Rocky Balboa".
Nothing will ever jack you up like a Rocky training montage
Cant wait for #2 you will absolutely love it.
Great reaction Jen. 2 ,3, and 4 are definitely worth watching. 2 is the best of the sequels. Like with First Blood, this is not the movie people expect on their first watch if they only know about it through pop culture.
Best Picture of 1976...for a reason. Fun review, as always!
Yes to the Rocky + Creed saga!! It was meant to be you quoted one of the most famous speeches from later in the series!!
It was this character and John Rambo which made Stallone's career, I know that the Rocky films are really popular but to be honest I prefer other films that he's done more.
Knew you'd love it , the first 4 are fantastic movies (watched them all 20 time each at least) .
The stairs are the art museum here in Philly. There's a statue of Rocky next to them and it always has a line of people waiting to take pictures with it.
Great reaction! Adrian is the heart and soul of the Rocky movies!
there are a few sequels to this franchise but it tells a story of being the underdog to getting to the top then falling back down to reality .But still all of them are definitally worth watching for sure
