Thank you, thank you, thank you for this! So many younger trainers, even female ones, don't understand what the female body goes through during and after menopause. Never mind menopause plus arthritis. It's so good to find someone who doesn't advocate a one-size-fits-all approach for women of all ages. I am living proof that all of the things you mentioned are true. I've been menopausal since 2015, and I tried so many different things to control my weight and health. Through years of trial and error, I finally found that a balance of low impact cardio and regular strength training, along with getting at least 100 grams of lean protein on days when I'm training, are key. I still do a large deficit for a few days to kick start things when I've gotten off of my program, but never consistently. Small deficit, high protein, including soy, and regular resistance training always get me where I need to be, even if it takes a bit longer. This method that you just advocated got me into a bikini at age 52 and I was proud to pose for photos on my Bahamas vacation. Thank you again for your always excellent advice! If I'd found you in 2015, I could have saved myself a lot of grief!
Such a similar story for me. The amount of research I’ve done over the past five years to understand what is happening to me I could have written a thesis. I incorporate all of this and it’s been my lifestyle for a long time, and will continue to be. Menopause is no joke and daily habits are paramount. It is so helpful to talk to others the same age as everything is different now. Here’s to 52 and beyond!
Great to hear this! I also have discovered that this approach that you are describing works well! I include a vegan day twice per week, but still try to keep adequate protein from plant sources on those days. Once a week or so, I eat at as much a deficit as I comfortably can, I feel like it helps to keep my metabolism engaged. I have improved my muscle tone so much by increasing protein, especially from animal sources, after eating full vegan for 1.5 years. Now my resistance training is actually showing results because I am giving my body the building blocks for making muscles. However, I don't want to "bulk" (and yes, that CAN and DOES happen to women), so I do lower weights, higher reps, and plenty of steady state, flat surface cardio.
I joined a gym aged 20 & have never stopped exercising. I gave birth to twins in June 2001 & was back on the treadmill in August, walking though, slowly & steadily I was running again. I am 56, 5ft 3" & 125 lbs. I sailed through menopause I think because I have maintained a healthy Mediterranean diet & keep walking. I lived in Athens Greece for 13 years. As soon as I arrived I joined a gym & ate like the Greeks. I arrived in Berlin, Germany & bought my first bicycle, I cook from scratch & never eat processed foods. Congratulations on your bikini body at 52. Bravo. My husband says I can still wear one, but I demurred & said a one piece from now on. Even with a flat stomach, my stomach is 56. But again sounds like you have a lot of confidence. I am impressed.
@@cheddarpuff Lower weights but reps are the way forward. I too eat a lot of vegan food stuffs, like lentils, butter beans, kidney beans & chick peas, not because I am vegan but they are a good alternative for protein. I make a lot of curried lentils, fortunately my husband & sons love that too.

When I first started getting symptoms a year ago, I got rid of the inflammatory foods, started weight training, and lost 25 lbs. When I let the diet go, the symptoms started to come back, but the weight training kept the lbs off. My response is to embrace a sustainable diet. I'm in better shape now at 48 than I've ever been. And that strength is hugely motivating going forward.
At last! Focusing on us poor lot who have noticed a paradigm shift in how our bodies are behaving and functioning. More workouts for menopausal ladies please!
I'd add that stress management is a MUST. Adding daily meditation (or upping your sessions if you already meditate) as well as attending to your health, prioritizing recreation, and saying no to things that stress you are a huge help. My hot flashes are severe if I'm not managing my stress. Also, make friends with change--whatever strategies you implement may work for a while, and then they won't, and you'll have to tweak your approach. Be willing to flex! Lastly, keeping a positive attitude does wonders for me--I try to take my focus OFF of the fact that I'm aging/wrinkling/uncomfortable with hot flashes and instead focus on how grateful I am to have lived to this stage in my life (not everybody gets to!), and the wisdom and freedom it's given me. Good luck, everyone!
My gosh thank you! This information is greatly appreciated. Perimenopause and menopause is no joke! You don't even feel like yourself anymore. When you've never had a weight problem and now you do, and now nothing seems to work. Sleep is a thing of the past. Thank you for breaking this all down.
To anyone who's reading this: You are strong. You are beautiful. You are powerful. Remind yourself that working out is not a punishment for what you ate, but a celebration of what your body can do! I hope you have a fantastic day :))
Thanks Cori for always being such a great role model. As a clinical psychologist that works in the health field I never have any hesitancy in recommending your channel. As a 60 year old woman I can second all your good advice, body recomping and focusing on building muscle does work at any age, let go of the scales and focus on training and healthy eating and the rest comes as a bonus. Yes it’s work but the pay off in energy and having a strong body you can depend on is worth it!!
I was thrown into menopause all at once with my hysterectomy last year, and gained 20 pounds in that year so easily; I didn't change anything in my diet or exercise routine either, it just came on quickly. About a month ago, I just started with increased protein, and added two, very short HIIT workouts to make 5 days of exercise a week, and have seen a big difference already. And I cut my portion sizes in half, and didn't feel deprived at all either. I'm a vegetarian so, I definitely get my soy protein in, and didn't really change what I ate, just the portions. Although I have quite a bit of fat to lose, I'm very happy I found a way to lose fat that's enjoyable, and easy.
I also was thrown into menopause at age 52 I'm now 66 years young. I have lost 40 pounds and my belly just won't go away but I'm not giving up. I was a 3X and now I wear a size 16 regular. Its slow going but don't give up. My only symptom now is hot flashes but I can deal with it they are so far spaced out. It was difficult in the beginning. I had every symptoms on the list. DON'T GIVE UP.
Something similar happened to me, I’m 58 but three years ago I had a hysterectomy and I started gaining weight unbelievably, I made a large research on the internet and after reading 100 different articles I decided to put in practice some, and it resumes as this: IF. 16/8 weight lifting 5 days a week for about 1 hour a day, after that I just walk on the treadmill for thirty minutes and I’m done, I don’t drink sodas anymore just water and coffee, and I have lots of protein in every meal, I cut out pasta, bread and all the goodies and would check to only have 25 grams of carbs contained in vegetables and fruits per day, I can say that in the beginning it seemed that nothing was happening, I think it was around almost a year after that I experienced a metabolism reset and I can happily say that I am back at my 30’s weigh and feeling great! And now I can allow myself to have a little treat every now and then, but very mindful [I guess the difference is that now I know what I should eat every day to feel good] All is possible just keep on going!
This is so true. Menopause is the perfect storm for weight gain. I hate that I need less calories but still like to eat ☹️. I increased my protein intake and reduced my carbs (and I love carbs). I also increased my activity, including adding weight training. Getting enough sleep is so important too. When I don't sleep well, I am hungrier and more likely to make poor food choices. It took a while but since Covid started, I lost 15 pounds and I am in better shape since I was an athlete in HS/college. My daily energy is great too! It is still a daily mental struggle though, talking myself out of over eating (or eating poorly) and doing my workouts. I just remind myself how much better I will feel after the workout is over. By the way Cori, you do not look old enough to be in menopause, thanks for all of your great videos!
Congrats on your consistent changes paying off Laura! Glad the videos help! And I'm not in menopause. Just doing my research and helping 100s of women who are. So fortunately for all of you this isn't based on just a person's personal experience but actually what has worked for a diversity of women! :-)
@@keepingit763 i am already through menopause. I think Ivd been post menopausal for a decade or so. Ive only been intermittent fasting for 3 years. It has helped improve my sleep and I feel much better for sure but Im not sure if it would have helped with menopausal symptoms. I never had hot flashes. I was just always tired and tended toward depression. I dont even think I gained weight really. But it did affect my heat tolerance in a big way. That is still a problem for me unfortunately.
For my entire life I've been underweight, I could eat anything I wanted and always remained thin. Then I went through menopause and my metabolism slowed down so much that I gained 50 pounds in two years!! It's been 10 years now and I still have not been able to lose the weight!!
Thx for the video, I'm 57 and on HRT. This past year I have lost 35 lbs and more importantly kept it off. I did this by following the ketogenic diet, mind you I have fallen off the wagon here and there I try to limit simple carbs and alcohol. I eat lots of green leafy vegetables and cruciferous veggies. I tend to follow a higher protein vs fat diet. I stay away from seed oils (canola) and use avocado, olive and coconut oils. I also find intermittent fasting helps. I plan to add some 48 to 72 hrs fasts through out the year. As for exercise, I strength train 3 times a week and do a HIIT jump rope program. Love your videos.
Thank you for this wonderful video! I’ve noticed that at 59 my body is always changing and workouts that I did at 52 don’t work as well anymore. I definitely need more strength training and to closely watch my calorie intake everyday. It’s not always easy. I love your workouts and your videos! Thank you so much for all of the great information that you provide for everyone!
Awesome. I've always been active and I've always been a gym user. I've always been a runner a walker , hiker a tennis player. But life , our children and over the yrs I've been inconsistent. But I've never stopped all together. Now I'm older and I wish I would've never got complasent But I've recently picked everything back up again. So I am happy doing all the activities I've done in the past, thanking God I don't have any medical issues. I've always been wgt conscious so I've never ventured too far from where I would be in danger. But to say I'm healthy and with Gods grace and mercies I will do all I can.
I loved your video so much that I watched it twice. 👍 I ended up losing around 25 kilos within 9 months at 48 years old. I maintained my new physique and healthier lifestyle during numerous strict lockdowns here in Melbourne Australia whilst being indoors most of the time as it was winter and we were restricted to being outdoors. I did not have a trainer or gym, both my parents passed away, I had work pressures and other stressors and my mental health plummeted, yet I continued. But I then started wanting to build muscle, increased my calories, I got confused with different advice, felt hungry all the time, allowed the stress of dealing with deceased estates and long ongoing family conflict get to me, I contracted viruses 3 times within a few months including Covid-19 and I was unable to exercise consistently. When I resumed an exercise routine again after having Covid-19, I struggled with my energy, strength and motivation. I started drinking alcohol more regularly and I have now gained around 10 kilos. I am struggling to get back on track and I feel badly for derailing after all my hard work and after maintaining it for around 3 years. Watching videos like yours help me to stay on track, thank you. 🙏
This makes a lot of sense to me..tiny 63 yr old with real weight accumulated. Have just done a short course of replacement meal shakes and now moving into maintenance and what makes me totally satiated now is protein and fats with fresh veg. No hankering for rice or pasta anymore. Like my body is finally in charge saying "enough". Loads of water, no taste for alcohol and an apple a day. Sleeping better, lost a stone and not so brain fogged. Others kept saying low carbon is evil ... and I kept trying to explain I want more protein but they didn't get it. Thank you!!
Finally, someone takes the time to explain, in detail, the how's and why's to menopause weight gain! I've had so many doctors/specialists tell me that I should think about losing weight, especially now that I'm older, but they never bothered to tell me HOW to accomplish that. Thank you for taking the time to break it all down for us.
Love the information in such a concise way. I also love your face in its natural state. Thank you for your courage to not get “all made up” for your videos.
This could not be more perfect timing for me. I've definitely entered into a different place regarding energy, cardio strength, weight distribution, etc. I've been intending to look up nutrition suggestions, and here is your video! Thank you for the great info!
I am right there with you. Hot flashes come and go, especially if I have had a stressful day at work. I already eat pretty much what she said expect the fish oil but that is easily fixed. Good luck with your changes.
@@lauraharris6987 I haven't hit the flashes yet, but energy has plummeted, even with exercise added. Hoping nutrition changes help there. I can already tell I don't have the same cardio stamina, so I'm totally okay with replacing with strengthening. 😂 Hang in there. We'll get through this! 😁
@@natalieclark5819 I do weight training. I try to do two exercises in one to be more efficient. I try to do 5 days a week. There are some good metabolic weight training videos on TH-cam. I do light cardio in my warm up but that's it, IE jumping jacks or butt kicks.
@@natalieclark5819 I never had a hot flash, so you may not experience them. I almost never had cramps either, but I am not sure if those are linked. Since I wasn't having other menopause symptoms, it took me a while to connect why my running times fell off a cliff and why I was losing so much muscle and getting weaker. Glad I found this channel!
I've done exactly the same. I was overweight bordering on obese. I moved to a high protein/Keto diet and I've been losing 1lb every week. So far I've lost 28 lb and have more energy and feel stronger. Just started using resistance bands to help tone my stomach and arms. This is a lifestyle change that's really worth pursuing.
Can I ask your age?? I am extremely obese. Been trying to cut carbs and do a somewhat keto diet. I am losing, but slowly. I also had a heart attack and bypass about 5 yrs ago. I need encouragement.
@@lisamurray4198 I'm 55. It's taking me a while because I'm only losing 1-2Lb a week but I'm looking at it that it's not a race it's a lifestyle change for long term. Yes you can have the occasional treat but be aware that you have to burn it off. Plus you can still have some nice treats on Keto. Also it's better to lose weight slowly so your skin can adjust. Keep up the great work - stay determined - you'll eventually start to have more energy and feel a lot fitter and lighter.
I was 218Lb and have chronic back problems and arthritis so I was up against it. But now I have more energy, I feel lighter and look a lot better also 😀
Thank you for his making this video for those of us "of a certain age" that have gone into Pre, Peri and Post Menopause,!! I needed to see this video!! I have gained soo much weight around my midsection specifically after having a hysterectomy and have noticed that I have a lower body bulge..(Ugh ) that seems to be SOOOOO hard for me to get rid of. I did start doing strength training post Covid and then stopped and have now started back up again. I am BACK WITH A VENGANCE! I am DETERMINED to lose 50 lbs by my birthday, (in Aug)
Thank you so much for posting this. This gives me hope! Starting in my late 30's, I became very focused on my fitness - not so much my weight, but fitness in general. Now in my early 50's, I'm starting to struggle to maintain my fitness levels and weight has crept on, despite workouts which include weight training 3x/week. I usually feel sluggish when I eat a lot of protein, but am working to retrain my body in that aspect. I've never been a fad dieter but the hormone shift that came with menopause (and difficulty getting good sleep) has been hell. I'm working to lose the 7lbs I've gained, plus maybe a little more.
Perfect timing for me. I've just started going to a Crossfit box and after 8 weeks, I'm already noticing results. I make sure I have half a protein shake before my workout, BCAA drink during my workout and the rest of my protein shake is waiting in the car for me so I don't go and eat something unhealthy. I add some chia seeds and psyllium husk to my shake, too.
I'm 58 and have had a personal trainer to help hold me accountable. Some of the things you mentioned here, he has shared with me, especially increasing my protein and finding ways to deal with my lack of sleep. Although I weight train, this belly fat does not budge, but I'm going to decrease carbs and see if that helps. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. A video on foods, good and bad, and how much protein for the menopausal body would be great!
Thank you! This is so helpful and gives me hope! I’m 68 and though not overweight (5’3” 124) I’ve developed belly fat over the last few years. I’ve started on this journey to be healthier and your videos are informative and inspirational!
First, you should get credit for watching and trying to have some understanding about what she is going through. While I am not sure how it should be approached but I would be tickled pink if my SO shared it with me.
Here’s a tip-admit the menopause is going to effect both of you so tell your wife you are going to support her throughout. That way she may allow you some quilt lol.
Thank you soooo much for this video! As a fitness instructor who recently hit menopause (compounded by the pandemic lockdown), I have been BATTLING to find my new zone. This is extremely helpful for me personally and to pass on to my clients.
This couldn’t have come at a perfect time. I’m struggling so much lately especially because I was so fit and lean. It’s like hitting a brick wall. Many Thanks 🙏
Thanks for this info! I turn 50 this year and I’m in the worst shape of my life! None of my past diet or workout routines have worked. This video explains why. I’m adding protein to each of my main meals starting today and increasing my weight training and going to take some time off the bike. Wish me luck.
Thanks for talking about this. Most of the TH-cam fitness videos seem to be made by 20-year old and their workout routines/examples just don't work any longer. My recovery time has increased, joints start to hurt, etc etc, sucks... but its hard to change the old mindset of "have to do cardio every day" :)
Hi ! I’m a 68 year old exercise physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine and a personal Trainer with the American Council on Exercise. I have a TH-cam channel, Joyfully Fit by Jamie with workouts for menopausal women. th-cam.com/channels/-cHfWz1OKcTa_SLzwf0FkA.html
Hi Sabine! Hope you're doing that prehab process to help with that recovery as well - redefiningstrength.com/fhp-s2e12-what-is-prehab-and-how-do-i-use-it/
Girl! I literally feel your pain. Feels counterintuitive, but less is more for some of us in menopause. I'm on bioidenticals - to include DHEA. My DHEA was very low, so the body aches were CRAZY and the fatigue a mess. Couldn't hold down muscle. Added DHEA to the equation and it's night and day. Affects the metabolism tremendously. 1 hour daily walks have been a game-changer for me. I do no steady state cardio anymore. I lift heavy for less time and fewer days - at least until my adrenals adjust. I do too much and I look like the Michelin Man or the Stay-Puff Marshmallow. Can gain 10 lbs. overnight. The inflammation/water retention is real. Recover. Protein. Sleep. Walking. Heavy weight training. We're all different, but I FEEL you on the body aches. Low estrogen and/or low DHEA make me feel "broken." Chin up! You can do this!
Great information Kori! Hormones played a big part for me. I am post menopausal. But going through menopause was horrible for me. My body literally hurt. I am a avid marathon runner and I do alot of cross training with weights and band work. Until my Hormones were in balance I was a hot mess. I recommend ladies suffering like I did to have a full panel of blood work and check those hormone levels.
Seed rotation has really helped me as well as applying wild yam cream. I really love healing hormones through food. I really wish somebody would do a video on EXACTLY what to eat during certain times of the month. Luteal phase menses etc.
Honestly, this is why I'm learning now so I don't have issues. And you know what's the best part? I'm NOT telling you from personal experience and what worked for one person. I'm not giving you a personal opinion. I'm telling you what has worked because I've worked with 100s of menopausal women! :-)
I'm 59 years old and have been doing this for a while and the difference is HUGE. I also incorporate intermittent fasting (16/8) daily which has also made a world of difference. No more brain fog and my body comp is spot on (5ft, 110lbs). I lift weights 4/x per week and the only cardio I usually incorporate are along the HIIT side (15 min). Trust me, this advice is golden! So many will benefit
Your videos are the best visually, your speaking voice and educational food and health information. Your message is so meaningful and hits home. Thanks for all you do.
In my twenties and thirties I was able to maintain a very low weight and I bounced back very quickly after each of my three pregnancies. At 5'2" I never weighed more than 102 pounds. Maybe that was too low, but that was where I was no matter how I ate. At age 40 I decided I wanted to be fit and healthy instead of just skinny, so I started exercising and eating healthy. And when I say healthy I mean healthy. I gave up all refined grains and sugar. I ate whole foods only. I looked amazing and felt amazing. By age 50 I was ripped, with six pack abs and I was running, working out, and had so much energy. My doctor said my bloodwork showed that my hormones were very clearly in the perimenopause phase. Other than feeling more anxious and trouble sleeping, I still had tons of energy and felt great. At age 51 my period stopped and I went through about six months of hot flashes. I ramped up my workouts and cut out coffee and alcohol. That meant a whole food diet with no coffee or alcohol. So here I am almost 53 and I've gained 10 pounds. I haven't weighed this much in my adult life. I've lost the ripped, lean look despite increasing my exercise and maintaining my uber healthy diet. There are no more changes that I can make. I think if you go into menopause with bad habits, then by making healthy changes you will be able to lose weight. But if you go into menopause at a great weight with healthy habits, you see exactly how powerful the hormonal changes can be. I feel helpless and a bit hopeless that i"ll ever get it back :(

Cori - thank you for your unbiased, educational, informative and respectful commentary on all of your topics. You understand that the science is evolving. Knowledge is power and aging is wisdom. YOU are someone who is young enough that we can follow who isn’t pushing a miracle product. I have trained my clients on these principles for many years …. There is too much misinformation about these topics to serve as a money making platform for those that care about the 💰 and not about people. Congratulations and thank you again! I love the way you explain away the association of the importance of muscle build up during the onset of menopause. I’m 64 yo. and have been following your videos for the past 3 yrs. More power!
I hear my mother's voice... "Wait 'til you get there" ... Lol😂😂😂😂 It's not fun at all. I can deal with everything, except...the lack of sleep 💤💤💤 Thank you for sharing ❤️🌷
This is 100% spot on - love it! I’m 52, been weight training for about 3 years, and following a whole food plant based diet for about a year (occasional lean meat or dairy). there is just no other way to get it off or keep it off. you have to do it gradually, because dramatically restricting calories or carbs is extremely counterproductive. Great content, thank you! ❤️
Thank you for including the discussion on plant based foods and proteins. Video was very informative. Now I understand my weight, cravings and how to move forward.
Wish I had found this video years ago. I’m 62, been going thru menopause for 10+years. I started lifting weights and found that it helps me lose and I can actually eat more!
Thank you for this one. I am 63 years old, eat "fairly" healthy, exercise regularly and have increased belly fat and cannot lose weight.i love your style of not depriving and fad dieting but choosing health high protein meals and how to do so. Your workouts that focus on the mind body connection are right up my alley. Now I have much needed information.
Thank you Corrie for this great presentation, I’ve found walking early morning has helped a lot, I’m currently doing brisk 4K every morning. I’m feeling a lot better , and concentrating on engaging my core as I walk 😍
Cori, I'm going to watch this and share it with my wife 🙏🏼✨... You provide us with DEEP knowledge of our body-selves and balanced strategies for optimal human health. I'm so grateful that I have benefitted from you and your energy 🥰🕉️🌎🌏🌍🕊️
Thank you for being positive about the sometimes negative affects. Because, like you said at the start it often seems women are portrayed as doomed when peri/menopause occurs. What we need is good medical advice and tailored to us, and the same applies to diet and exercise. We need to change the approach to how menopause is viewed. It’s better than it was though 🙂
Menopause is so individual, but it's wonderful to hear it being so opening acknowledged there, well done! Rest was overwhelmingly helpful in the initial stages, just dialing down expectations and focusing on basic nourishment as much as I could. This seemed to allow some fundamental changes to occur. And it reaped dividends, my energy and training are back - better than ever. I have to do more to be attentive - but it's all the usual stuff one should be prepared to do anyway - ie warming up diligently, training with care and thoughtfulness, enjoying it, and warming down well. I experimented with mild fasting 14 - 16 hours overnight - that seems to have been helpful in giving the digestive system a rest. Digestion changes so much.
The best advice for menopause is to find a good menopause specialist and discuss HRT with them. Increase protein will not do anything about your hormone loss. This is general advice that is good for life but will have little affect on menopause. I waited too long trying to manage it with all this sort of thing!
Thank you so much this has helped me so much to start understanding menopause. Ithink im going thru it right now having warm or hot flashes per say. seeing my doctor friday to have test done and to be checked out. had a stroke in 2019 im better now. I have been working out all my life the stroke slowed me down, i just started back working out last month lost 3 lbs. then started feeling this happen to me. Im still going to workout because thats what i have been doing all my life i cant let this stop me. thk you for the information
Thank you so much for this video, Cori! I've been following you for some time and love doing your videos. Last year in 2021 I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, not what I expected to be focused on the year I turned 40. The medications have put my body into peri-menopause and I was having trouble losing weight by cutting calories the last month. Luckily I found this video before I did too much more damage! I can't believe how strange my body is behaving! The insomnia is killer ad why do I suddenly have fat on my belly? Luckily I enjoy weight lifting, have been doing some form of weights since I was 16, so I'll add a bit more of that and keep doing my HIIT. I would love to train with you someday!
Hi Sue! Yes! I plan to share more videos with all of my tips. Most of my coaching clients are going through menopause and I've created sustainable workout and macro plans for them to help as it can be so frustrating!
Thank you so much for this video. I truly understand now what going on with my body during menopause. I will make changes. I was exercising wrong. Too much Cardio and not enough weight training, now i realize i was working out the way I did in my 30. Not much progress now i know why. Thank you 🙏
I love and so appreciate the content you give, this one in particular!! This is my life and I appreciate your advice. Thank you for all the solid, easy to understand info!!
I work out five days a week doing a combination of HIIT Training and Strength. This past year (I am 52) I gained weight despite not changing my normal routine. Thank you for this timely video.
Exactly, "what we got away with when we were younger is no longer acceptable after menopause." You are right about the balance in training and diet, especially over fifty. I lacked magnesium and calcium, which caused physical problems; yes, lots of proteins!!!! Great video.
My husband (59) and I (53) started a pescatarian/Mediterranean “diet” on January 14 of this year. I have been going through perimenopause for about 5 years now (really hate the hot flashes!), though I do not take any hormone supplements for it. We make sure to work to get about 20g per meal and to incorporate protein in our snacks. We both have high cholesterol (which has gone down with meds) and I have high blood pressure (which began during my 7th month of pregnancy with my daughter-she’s now 24). I also had a calcium heart scan and, while it wasn’t considered “high”, it was higher than it should be for someone my age. We both love fish and seafood, so being pescatarian was easy for us and also incorporating the Mediterranean Diet. We have found we are eating WAY more fresh fruits and veggies that we were before and feel amazing! We plan to weigh back in on April 15, but I can see and FEEL the changes in my body with the diet and workouts we’ve been doing. We have a small home gym that has a Peloton treadmill and bike, along with the Total Gym. I HIGHLY recommend the Total Gym because it is very low impact and grows with you as you get stronger. It’s perfect for beginners and even those who have joint issues or are recovering from surgery.
❤️🩹I’ve found that strategically placed fans (one low for planks and one chest level for weight training) to keep me cool (both physically and mentally) while working out have made a world of a difference 😉
I am so glad you did a video on this. Do more with different females experiencing this, please? Honestly, I'd love to see a good series by you with awesome fun suggestions for workouts for those who don't want to spend forever working out to even fun workout outfits shirts but, made ethically I hate working out in anything that isn't mostly cotton. I feel nasty...but, I love it to be fun and a blend...stretchy yet, wow it's hard to find something awesome that is out there. I've started to really like your videos on this journey. Thank you. When most consumers like someone they'll buy from them. I think you have quality content. I'm an overweight stress eater. Don't think I've ever had healthy eating habits at all only disorders even encouraged by doctors to society. I'd rather be as healthy as possible at in age than some society standards. Just our best selves. It makes me sad to see so many not understand they are uniquely them. Work of art and I don't want to be like anyone else or look like anyone else but, the best version of myself. I see these unhealthy bodies obtained through plastic surgery I hate those trends. If I hit the money I'd probably do certain procedures yet, I know from having many surgeries for other reasons my body heals badly. To me a body achieved through working out is amazing. While I'm not against plastic surgery to make you feel better I think these trends hurt kids with unrealistic standards trend. Increasing eating disorders. I'd like to change that... As a kid in the 90s the 80s wasn't about healthy it was appearance we have not gotten out of those decades of unhealthy ideology. Not yet. I'd love to know a the clothing I wear down to the bra and equipment used is made by non slave labor, quality and ethical that alone is EcoChic. Yet, we don't see that broken down as making a person attractive the fact they give af about human rights by what they consume items produced to what they wear. That isn't highlighted I'd love to see that change to improve the marketplace I also care that people have access to decent food even a home we have 600,000 homeless that's unacceptable in the US. To me I'd rather be a great version of myself without stripping the rights of others to survive or profit. That's attractive no matter your weight to me. That's a society I'd like to see grow not the current marketplace. Not just 1 version of capitalism.
Minute 10:08-10:23!!!! I’m going to do this today after my rebounder workout. Thank you Cori. Gotta get off my my menopause tush and make weights a priority again.
I like your information, I was hoping to see more using alternatives protein sources. Tofu is not my thing for a variety of reasons. I have been in menopause for 10 years now. I was advised to go on a keto diet for about 18 months because I had I developed pre-diabetes in2017 likely as a result of family genetics. Yes I lost weight, inches when combined with exercise, cardio, strength and pilates. But I felt awful, brain fog , chronic constipation, poor sleep, etc. I retired from a stressful job 3years ago and worked part time elsewhere. My diet was not keto but it was low to moderate carb, felt better, still exercised felt better but not great. So I retired permanently 6 months ago and did some nutritional reading surrounding with diabetes in mind. I’m still in a pre-diabetic state, good news overall. What works best now is protein from chicken, fish, various beans ( which I prepare from dry) lentils, quinoa. I use whole grains, barley, pats, farro, brown rice, in small quantities. And I eats lots and lots of greens. My typical dinner, is a large bowl of fresh greens, with one of tuna, salmon, cod, egg, chicken, beans and add a quarter cup of cooked whole grain and add tomato, cucumber, onion, EVOO and apple cider vinegar, etc. I add whole flax seeds, pumpkin seeds . I also eat nuts, fruit, dark chocolate. Physically, mentally and sleep, I have never felt better. I make everything myself, I have lost half of my belly fat, 5 inches off my waist. More needs to go. It’s painfully slow at this point. What else is there and stave off the progression of my metabolic disease?
Another intelligent well thought out explanation for weight loss, I would say these same principals would also work for those of us who are prone to middle age dad bods as well.
Yes… I’m starting that dreaded stage in my life… some friends say… yay girl that flow will stop! And I’m like ur crazy… the flow stops and the fat starts! Ignorance kills me about some people! Thanks for teaching people about this monster!
Yea, I used to be a food contest champ and never gain an ounce. Now, I'm almost keto and et a huge mixing bowl of salad greens, kale, cabbage, parsley, red onion, etc daily.
I agree ! Upping protein has really helped . Women seem to fear it but if the machinery of the body is working well inflammation is reduced, the liver has been cleaned out, protein and all good foods are burnt as fuel . More protein stabilises sugar level helps mood and fuels cells. I’m better for it and less hungry and not craving, it’s GREAT
This video was so helpful, thank you!! I'm super excited to hear you support and confirm the evidence of the benefits of soy for menopausal symptoms. Many health experts on YT still make the opposite claim. This was such good information in a quick and easy format. 👍🏻😊
Thank you so much for this video! I had a hysterectomy two years ago and been dealing with premenopausal weight gain. Not to mention a little belly pouch that just won’t go away and now cellulite on my thighs.
Cori is giving solid information - as always - in this video. Been in your shoes. I found this resource helpful also: th-cam.com/video/ZyqYVRt8gFU/w-d-xo.html
Menopause definitely increases your weight and waist size. Despite working out 5x a week with cardio and strength work, I find my weight slowing creeping up. Definitely will start increasing protein intake. Will protein shakes also help?
As a personal trainer 8 years post menopause I trained like a mad woman and my diet was super clean….5 years post menopause nothing worked and put on 15lbs …until i discovered keto. Lost 26 lbs and now at 59 im about 4 lbs to reach my goal of 124lbs at 5’4. Dont fear fat like she says, but clean keto. And stick to it religiously! I still workout 4 to 6 times per week focusing on heavy weights.
Protein shakes can be a "quick fix" but the goal is definitely whole natural foods. :-) Tracking your food can be eye opening as to the changes you need to make. And Keto is just specific macro ratios and can work great for some. But even then there are variations in the exact "keto" ratios people use. So key you learn what your lifestyle is and make changes to that you can sustain :-) - redefiningstrength.com/fhp-s2e21-starting-to-count-macros-5-tips-for-beginners/
Do you have a tracker ? I find following and measuring calories can help. You either barely eat or you eat to stuff yourself silly. In between never works : (
Went into full blown menopause at 30 after hysterectomy . No HRT for the next 25 years. Guess how my body reacted to this? Well…Let’s say it’s been a journey I would not recommend. I was just able to get (finally) a HRT plan from a doctor who listened and wanted to help me regain a life. Having no hormones is very bad for the body and the mind. At least I started to exercice 6 days a week and hoping with the HRT, I should see positive changes in the next months. It’s so important to find someone who can listen to you when you are in menopause. Because everything is different when you are if you have no HRT treatment plan. My blood test showed i had no estrogen and a tiny fraction of progesterone which explained a lot of the multitude of symptoms. Get blood test and doctors who care not those who say that its normal for the body to change and that we should just accept it. :)
I don't think I feel "hungrier", I feel "life" gets in the way and the way WE cope is by turning to food and alcohol and less physical fitness. You are right about the biological changes, but how WE respond to our emotional "issues" play a huge part. I did not go thru hot flashes. Others claim I became moodier, but I feel I am and was responding to the current times. It's a mix bag.
Thank you for this comment. Resonates with me.

None of these work
Appreciate you taking the time to give us this summary 🙋♀️🪴
❤
This....👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Very true!
My gosh thank you! This information is greatly appreciated. Perimenopause and menopause is no joke! You don't even feel like yourself anymore. When you've never had a weight problem and now you do, and now nothing seems to work. Sleep is a thing of the past. Thank you for breaking this all down.
To anyone who's reading this:
You are strong. You are beautiful. You are powerful.
Remind yourself that working out is not a punishment for what you ate, but a celebration of what your body can do!
I hope you have a fantastic day :))
God bless you! That is the sweetest blessing of encouragement! ❤️ 🙏 💪

Brilliant. Thank
Bravo!!!!!
@@collettebukucs5414 bravo........you are an inspiration.....
Have you tried fasting? I had ten pounds I just could not lose. Then I started fasting 18 hours a day. Lost the ten pounds easily
@@rosep8481 how do you have the control not to eat when you feel hungry??
@@rosep8481 Are u going through Menopause? Do fasting work if women are Menopausal?
💯
Thank you for this wonderful video! I’ve noticed that at 59 my body is always changing and workouts that I did at 52 don’t work as well anymore. I definitely need more strength training and to closely watch my calorie intake everyday. It’s not always easy. I love your workouts and your videos! Thank you so much for all of the great information that you provide for everyone!
I walked past a bakery and gained five pounds from the smell alone. 😆
😂😂😂😂
I always thought that was a myth..but now I believe it is so not one!
Exactly. I thought it was just me. I gain 5 lbs every time I look at baked goods
😂😂😂😂 I know that feeling!!
Looking at pinterest desserts doesn't help either, lol
I ended up losing around 25 kilos within 9 months at 48 years old.
Thank you!!
Glad you found what works for you Claire! Each of us is different so experimenting and adjusting is key!
My pleasure. Far too lazy to do my own make up. But it's fun when someone else does it for me! haha 🤣
This could not be more perfect timing for me. I've definitely entered into a different place regarding energy, cardio strength, weight distribution, etc. I've been intending to look up nutrition suggestions, and here is your video! Thank you for the great info!
So glad it helps Natalie!
Im 51 and 307 lbs
As a guy what I get is the losing testosterone issue. I'm gonna keep building muscle so it burns calories even at rest. Good luck girls!!!!!
I am in a group of women over 50 years. This is a common complaint.
And the earlier we can start putting in those sustainable habits, the better!
Thank you! This is so helpful and gives me hope! I’m 68 and though not overweight (5’3” 124) I’ve developed belly fat over the last few years. I’ve started on this journey to be healthier and your videos are informative and inspirational!
I wanna show this to my wife and hopefully not get kicked out of the house for doing so.
🤣🤣🤣
It's all about the how you present the info to her John B. Be sensitive in how you share it. Wishing you luck
It depends on your motivation for showing her.

So glad it helps Ivelisse!

I’m with you. Read my post above. Hormones are horrible when out of whack.
Seed rotation has really helped me as well as applying wild yam cream. I really love healing hormones through food. I really wish somebody would do a video on EXACTLY what to eat during certain times of the month. Luteal phase menses etc.
Your channel is a huge gift for me!
Thanks for all you do here!
The content is so useful, informative, and entertaining for me!
I'm so glad it helps!
This is great information and all valuable tips. I would love to hear more on this from you when you have actually experienced menopause. Thanks!
I feel helpless and a bit hopeless that i"ll ever get it back :(
Undergoing same. I am a fitness trainer. After menopause hit to me ……..with exercises and calorie deficits also I gained wt. 😲
check your hormones. they need to be restored! HRT

Lol😂😂😂😂
It's not fun at all. I can deal with everything, except...the lack of sleep 💤💤💤
Thank you for sharing ❤️🌷
Definitely some hard changes and challenges. But having tools at our disposal to try to control what we can control is key!
I'm gonna tell my client the great news. She'll be happy to hear it. Thank you, Clori. You're amazing!!
Just what I need it to hear during this horrible stage of my life, thank you I have hope

Wow - binge watching atm! Your channel and YOU are absolutely amazing - what a Godsend!!! Thank you!
I'm not the target demo for this, but I found it super-informative and helpful. Thank you very much! Happy to be a subscriber.
Digestion changes so much.
your hormones need to be restored! easy fix !
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and making a difference. May God bless you always
I was diagnosed with POI at 31 so this was very helpful for me. The struggle has been real!
Thank you 😍 can we have more diet and training tips on this subject please?

Hi Sue! Yes! I plan to share more videos with all of my tips. Most of my coaching clients are going through menopause and I've created sustainable workout and macro plans for them to help as it can be so frustrating!

How blessed you are! You are definitely in the minority.
Sincerely, thank you. Thank you for being a logical loving voice with healthy advice to aging women. Strength, support, success. ❤❤❤
Yes! Me, too. ❤️
Thanks for tour great advices and so good explanations about this topic.
I am so glad you did a video on this. Do more with different females experiencing this, please?
The industry is obsessed with the youth which makes us who survived so much to go through more hell are ignored feeling even more lost with no support it is a terrible cycle especially being female...
Swear if men bleed be no wars. They would be crying I'm the corner needing safe words if they had periods to go through, child birth, dismissive society ugliness and menopause.
Anyhow, I'm not in menopause YET I know I've suffered for years and years from PMDD to everything you described without menopause and it sucks. Can't take birth control and worse doctors refused to preform a hysterectomy. Just left in pain every month hurting badly even with a great diet.
Thank you for this!! Menopause is kicking my butt.
THIS is the video I was looking for! Thank you! You are awesome.
This is so helpful... a really great video, thank you.
Amazing deadlift Cori. Not dropping the weight on the eccentric portion - that's the challenge and key. Wasted energy and wasted reps. You rock.

@@Bunnykisses1000 excellent job! Keto was a lifesaver for me, down 35lbs and 27lbs to go. No hunger and I really like intermittent fasting.

I wish I could have learn this long time ago from this information but it's never too late to learn something new taking care of yourself
Kuddos to you for doing this amazing video! I am sharing it to my facebook page because it is that good. You are an outstanding TH-camr! Bravo.
This was so comprehensive and helpful! Thank you!
