    rebuilding your old house knowing what you know now has got to be one of the dream scenarios for any builder

    • @IzzyIkigai
      @IzzyIkigai หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah but.. Usually these channel's videos are like "look at this amazing classic artisanal carpenting" and these ones feel more like "*pulls out nail gun* let me show you how I cut corners for personal projects". Idk about you but for me it's kinda the same when I work on personal projects that use my work skills. It's almost like treating yourself as a worse customer because you're not paying.

      @@IzzyIkigai I agree with what you said. I have a feeling that he’s doing these renovations not for himself and his family to live in but to sell the house and then move elsewhere.

    Legendary stamina. Man's on a mission. True drive, when I renovated my moms' basement at 20 I took months, now I'm even less inclined at 33. Sometimes 1 weird ass cut feels like It's too much before you want to quit, aha. I don't think I'd be able to deal with grooves and craftsmanship like him, as it just feels like a hurdle that 1 cut has taken 3 hours to do but in your mind its 10 minutes.

    If this is just the normal quality of wood in Japan, I'm so jealous. To get anything like this in the states you have to go to a specialty supplier and it's all intended for furniture/cabinetry rather than construction. Not even getting into you don't really see actual joinery in typical western construction unless it's a custom build, $1M+ "developer" built houses are just as slapdash as $400k ones.
    Wish I could hire Shoyan-san to help with the remodel I'm planning!

    Someday maybe you could make a short video about the types of tools that you use. You have a interesting combination of modern and traditional tools and I'm sure that you have chosen each tool and type of tool very carefully. It would be very interesting to see and hear you talk about why you chose certain tools for certain jobs and which are your favorites
