Some cool stuff that was added in that he didn't cover, cause he didn't need to: - Press c2 in the air to do a singular trick in the air. It sends you into a spinning state, while looking flashy and cool. - Jumping out of one footsweep will give you a flashy trick as well. - You can dodge in any state other than when you're hit or you're spinning around after you get hit while you were boosting. - Press c2 and Toss flag to taunt. Sonic will run in place, and make a quirky remark. That'll peeve people off. That's all I have so far. Great character, Shine.
i gotta say i love your concept of trying to make Sonic play like in cutscenes and the Sonic cartoons/anime. i've always liked when Sonic had a vast moveset, but this just goes off-the-charts! Also is that SMS making freaking black hole at the end?
They obviously don't do it because it's difficult for people to grasp and react to when they have to play it out live....but going past a comfortable pace is the whole thrill of speed to begin with! At least, for me. It wouldn't be as fun if there was no risk of losing control with your missteps. Also yep, that's HMS(Hyper Mystic Sonic), an extra transformation for the people who love nothing but the OP aspect, so black holes are totally fair game.

I would like to preface this comment by stating this: This is going to be long and the TL:DR is at the bottom. When I had initially played SRB2 13 years ago, SMS was one of the first wads I had played. I had picked him up because I had hoped that he could capture some of the essence of what I had believed sonic could be in a 3d platformer. I had hoped he would be fast, he would roll around at the speed of sound. Zipping to and from, showing off just how acrobatic and cool he could be. And of all the wads I had played, SMS, while the closest, was still nowhere near close enough to be what I was hoping for. This is not to say he was a bad character, his concept, while a little silly, was still a beautiful idea. To make a sonic that would be fun to play as. It just that he was limited by what the game could handle and how he was implemented. But as the years went by, I grew bored of SRB2, the wads I had collected, and of SMS. There was very little worth remembering about the fan game and its vast array of characters and levels. I started to seek my ideal sonic in other sources. Thus, I slowly but surely forgot about the game and all it had brought with it. Fast forward 13 years later since I first played SRB2, 10 years since I had last heard of super mystic sonic or SRB2. I have all but completely stopped caring about sonic only truly remembered them him for the music. Sonic became less of an awesome character and more that one game character that had awesome music. the only exceptions being sonic unleashed and sonic mania, two of the game that was made in the past decade and a half I had bothered to remember playing. By this point, I have truly stopped looking for what I had hoped to find in SRB2 with SMS, I had just figured it was never going to happen, thus I gave up. And to be honest, I was content with that, I have other things to do anyway. Then out of literal nowhere, I see a video pop up in my recommendations. It read: SMS Reborn - Release Trailer. By this point, I completely forgot what SMS even was, but I felt curious about what this was and more importantly, why did youtube recommend this. And thus I had watched the video. The first time I was confused about what I was looking at. The second time I felt slightly less confused, but still very much thrown off on what I had just seen. I had to have rewatched that video at least 12 times before I had noticed that it wasn't confusion I was feeling, it was excitement. Before I knew it, I had downloaded SRB2, downloaded SMSreborn-v1, and started playing. I had tried using sprint and kept faceplanting into walls and badnicks, couldn't land on platforms for crap, and I swear to creation itself, the number of rings I had to have had run by only to double back to grab numbers in the literal thousands. It was hell to figure out the controls SMS and commit them to memory. So I took a step back from his special abilities and focused on getting a feel for how he controls. Before long, I could say that I was finally able to use him moderately well. It was not at the skill level displayed in the trailer or in the GFZ1 speed run, but it was enough for me to enjoy what he offered. But then I got curious, what would happen if I start to imitate the stuff I saw in the trailer and that speedrun. So I gave it a try, and it has been a god damn blast to play as him. I had never imagined I would have to wait 13 years to have the sonic the hedgehog I had hoped for back when I was 10. But now that he is here, and from the most unexpected source, I can say that it was truly worth the wait. Sega could never make him happen. Sonic Team kept screwing up most of their attempts and kept jumping back to 2D everytime. And nearly all the fan game creators whoever took a step in the right direction were either obsessed with using momentum mechanics (Going down hills being the only way to build speed like in the genesis games) or tending to go on hiatus and never coming back. But you actually did it. You made SMS into the figure I had always seen in the comics and the tv shows. You made SMS, no, Sonic into one of, if not the fastest thing alive. And for that, I can only say one thing. Thank You. You did a kickass job of doing something that sega has failed to do for the longest time and what most others fail to do; making Sonic fun to play as and to watch. To bring the spectacle of the cutscenes and shows and make that into a playable character. Thank you so much for making this happen. TL;DR : This is one hell of a mod and I can sincerely say that this is how you should expect a 3D Sonic to play. This or the infinity engine, really depends on your preference. Whoo boy, this was a long one. Think I've been writing this for at least an hour now. Edit: I had touched some of the grammar and word choices in here. I wrote this at midnight so sleep exhaustion took its toll on me.
Your initial experience is probably why SEGA doesn't do this. You don't want your players to feel like they're not in control, but even the best SRB2 players using SMS are CONSTANTLY at risk of losing control at max speed. Even something as standard as SRB2's vanilla speed thok causes newbies grief. That and a mountain of complexity and options overwhelming players can make a game feel like an unclimbable mountain at the first impression. To add insult to injury, the Classic Sonic branch of this franchise was BUILD on simplicity. People just wouldn't buy it. You'd get reviews criticizing the controls and complaints on how Sonic handles...and then even more divided customers. And that's not even getting into how hard it to design stages around this level of speed and freedom. So of course SEGA can't ACTUALLY let Sonic move at supersonic speed while being mindblowingly accurate, stylish and acrobatic like he's meant to. But I'm no business like SEGA. This was just unrestrained made for myself. Sure, I'd LOVE for everyone else to be able to get the same out of this as me, but I knew what I signed up for when I ditched the "Modern Sonic emulator" approach. SMSreborn probably won't be as popular as the old SMS as a result, but I'm grateful for everyone who can at least understand. Therefore, thank you as well!
Will take a break from SMS for a while to work on Samus(Metroid Vanguard)! I've gotten super burned out on SMS lately. Enjoy blasting through levels at true Sonic speed, though! Have fun!

4:03 You can follow up the dive with another action by holding spin, custom1, or fire. Holding spin starts up a blinddash, holding custom1 and a direction lets you burst into a sprint(dive-burst!) faster, and holding fire starts up the Diffusion Flame toss! (Giant Homing Flame!)
I really enjoy playing this mod, honeslty my favorite out of any SRB2 mod because of its variety in move sets and overall power it has. But the most fun part about it would honestly be Hyper Mystic Super Sonic and I have to ask, what's the kickass song that plays during the transformation? It's such a good song and I constantly hear it in my head.

When doing a dodge, hold custom1 and the direction you want to "boost" into. It's useful to get a move on right after doing a dodge, and an easy way to get into boostmode quicker.
okay so i transformed into super mystic sonic as sonic with tails and when i do power share tails does get an aura but isnt transforming. does power share fully work with sonic and tails or no?

There's no big interesting or controversial thing to talk about with Samus. Plus, she's very recent compared to SMS.(2017 vs 2006) That said, I will bring out a release video when she's out for 2.2.

You're doing it right? Get 30 rings, keep holding custom 3, then also hold the buttons instructed. If that's not it, tell me what you've got added, if the admin settings allowed it, and maybe send a screenshot!
HMS tutorial will be a long time from now.....I suggest using the controls aid to figure out his moves. As for the haymaker, the fish are easy stationary targets to practice on! Try haymakering the bouncing fish in die.pk3, or clearing the crawlas at GFZ2's start to make an easy runway towards the two fish.
@@SpacedOut_Artemis It does what it says when you hover over it. It makes it play like the old SMS. If you don't know how the old SMS played, this means you get the multi-homing speed thok, instant boost, spring trick jumps, and a different walljump. Practically everything else disables.
I have 2 more things I want to suggest/ask 1.Can there be a mobile compatible like the homing thok rather than having to holding spin and then pressing jump you just do the thok when near an enemy and this would be an option in the SMS menu labeled mobile thok that replaces the air boost with the homing thok but not fully you can still double tap C1 for the air boost 2.Can HMS become customizable
Hey. You might have seen my name in a certain server or two, but, I'm known as Nobody in SRB2. Now before people start piling up on me for roleplaying or something, I believe in a trusted one using another's account, or other everyday things for that matter. In case you don't know, let's just say Angel got a little upset and sparked a potential riot on the Message Board. Also, I'd like to keep myself anonymous for the sake of my weird and funny sounding real name. Right now I'm using my friend Angel's YT account, like I did when I met another friend starting with SNW (Sonic Network World). Originally Angel was planning to trudge his way here, full of sorrow and willing to make up, but I'd just like to speak for him though, so, hear me out, and I quote; If you ever get bored, so bored in fact nothing you do takes the boredom away, try doing what I call "lighting a taddy little spark and waiting for it to grow into something truly blessed (but could become cursed if you think about it for too long, y'know, The Secret? That hour-long documentary?)" or, simply put, a favor with a domino effect. I know this might get even MORE boring, to the point it's excruciating, but trust me, that spark is like an everyday plant. Just wait for it to sprout and get bigger, you'll be thanking me much later. Much, MUCH later. First, pull up SMSReborn, from there things get complicated, but you have a choice. Either edit the sprites or redesign them completely into the "NiGHTS Adventure Sonic" you were talking about here. For the super form, I'd recommend your take on a regular Super Sonic (not Super *Mystic* Sonic, although you can do SMS for super if you wish, I ain't gonna police it) You can reuse (most of or certain parts of) SMSReborn's abilities, although I'd recommend the abilities from a Sonic mod known as "BSonic" that I just downloaded earlier. At this point I'd like to deflate you of the stress, strain, and extreme boredom by letting you know this is a "template," not a full mod. The word template is in quotes because this is technically a mod, but it's supposed to be fully reusable, as part of the little spark's sort of "butterfly effect." After the first phase (Creation) is through, you have a choice with which to initiate phase two (the Shine Cycle). Privately pass it to me and let me release it through this channel, or release it yourself. I don't mind. Remember, it has to be FULLY REUSABLE at ALL COSTS. For the name, you decide. I dunno if you'd take just plain "Mystic Sonic," or "Bracelame Sonic (Bracelame = Bracelet + Flame)" or worst yet, "Shine Sonic" or "Shinespark Sonic." It's totally okay if you don't want to do it now, just copy and paste this somewhere so you have time to consider. I hope to discuss with you further soon!

If I get this right, your favor is: Turn SMS into normal Sonic. Make HMS Super Sonic. Then release it so everyone can edit that as a base and do with it as they please? Not likely. First, SMS' Lua is ridiculous. Nobody's going to be able to learn from that, and it's been re-usable for ages. It'd make a terrible template. Second, if you want an Adventure Sonic, pay attention to MetalWario64. His sprites are far better, and he's doing Adventure Sonic right now. Lastly, I despise making sprites. The last thing I'd want to do is start a time-consuming project where nothing's new but sprites.

You could do this for me as an alternative in the meantime though; swap out SMS' regular running sprites with his sprint running sprites, just to add a little more nostalgia to him. Has anyone figured out how to make the save config option work? I have no idea what I’m doing wrong and couldn’t find any hints on how to make it work in the mb thread.
You need the new version, SMSreborn-v2. Just check the release video or the SRB2 MB thread for it. But if that's not your issue, I guess I'll start from the bottom. Notice how you spawn with a Mystic Emerald, and how it appears at checkpoints? Touch it to get a prompt to enter the SMS menu. From there, go into the SMSreborn menu, then scroll down until you find "save config". Just select that to automatically save every setting.

Now then, my issue is honestly an odd one, so the most I can really do is summarise what happens and hope that someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. Here Goes: First I would load SMSreborn-v2.pk3 and start a level as normal. I would see that SMS loads in with all his defaults and when I check the console, it says "executing SMSReborn.cfg". I then customize his setting in the SMSMenu, such as changing the color pattern to, for example, "No Special", so I can recognize at a glance if the "Save Config" option worked. I would then navigate my way to the "Save Config", press the space bar to confirm my desired set up, and hear a sound. By this point, I exit out of the SMSMenu and check the console again, only to see nothing has happened. I then choose to exit to the title screen and re-enter a level, only to see that SMS has loaded back to his defaults. I have also opened the SMSreborn.cfg in notepad only to see just the comments that were originally in there in the first place with no confirmed changes. I have tried having the MSMReborn.cfg file in the subfolder that I keep the SMS character file and I have tried keeping it in the main folder where I place the autoexec file in, but neither options have any effect. I have even attempted to see what happens when I tried to use the save config button on a sonic transformed into sms or starting stage as sms. Both of those also result in failure. I just don't know what to do to make that one facet of this character mod work. Nothing I seem to do allows the game to write/save and of my customizations. I have even tried deleting it, but of course, that only results in the game never loading any cfg, let alone saving something to one. Sorry for how long this has been, but I would rather get all the details out of the way. Thanks in advance for any troubleshooting you can provide and for being patient enough to read this comment.
Okay then. So "NO SPECIAL" saves as SMS' default yellow color, which you can freely swap out of that color at will unlike the other special colors. So if that's the only issue you looked at, chances are it's saving fine but the yellow color confused you. Check with any other settings and colors and see if they save fine. Second, the SMSreborn.cfg isn't used for saving. It's just an extra autoexec.cfg that specifically load when SMS is added. Unless you put a command in there like "addfile smsaltmusic.pk3", it does nothing. Finally, the actual savefile from SMS is in luafiles>client>smsrebornsettings.dat. It shouldn't be possible for this to corrupt or anything, but if the file isn't there at all then it's not saving properly for some reason. Might be an administrator thing that's not allowing SRB2 to write luafiles at that point. If IT is there and you open it with notepad or something, it should say "SMSrebornautoconfig" followed by a bunch of numbers.
GoldenShine So tried out a couple things. I had opened the SMS v2 pk3 file but couldn’t find the smsrebornsetrings.dat file when I use 7-zip to extract the files. This is not to say it isn’t in there, because when I type smsrebornautoconfig in the console. he swaps from what I set his setting as to his defaults, so everything is where it should be. Next I had tried running srb2win as a admin but still no luck with the save config option. By this point I am convinced the fault lies more with my computer rather than anything else. Lastly, I am completely okay with this. I’m only in the SMS menu for a few seconds to make the changes I want to make, and most of things I want to use, I already remember the console commands, so I lose nothing from not having the Save Config option. SMS is still awesome to play as regardless. Thanks for helping me out.
The dat file isn't found in the pk3 or the zip smsreborn-v2 comes in. It's created by SRB2 after you click save config in SMS' menu in-game. To find the dat.file, you go into the SRB2 main folder, then the luafiles folder, then finally the client folder.

@@GoldenShine Well i figured it out thanks to another friend. However he was doing the jump homing bomb thing (Cant remember the name) over and over again until i had no more rings. We figured out that in the controls for gamepad if the fire button is set to anything, then it will always loop due to possible anolog movement on a trigger or something. It might just be a game problem and not a problem on your programing but I figured i would leave a comment anyways. Also btw great mod, I have had a ton of fun (Though initially i was tuned off about it due to design and such...) But after watching your videos on it I couldnt help but not only be intrested but also relate to how you feel as a creator. and i dont regret giving this mod a shot, It has been a LOAD of fun.
Ahh. That's the third time I've seen people have that fire button bug in SRB2. Thanks for giving it a shot! In the further future I'll try to add a lot more options for controls to make SMS more accessible.

After watching these videos, I've actually become pretty interested in trying to become proficient with SMS. But I'm wondering, is a gamepad an acceptable option for using SMS?
I want to say it's more difficult to be precise in simple mode or just with a gamepad in general since I'm personally worse and less experienced at it myself. So I can't say. SMS is fully supported for "simple" mode at least, minus a bug in v2 that makes ringbursting difficult if autobrake is off. That'll be patched, of course.
It makes sense that you need the precision of a mouse as oppose to a joystick, I myself play srb2 with a DS4 so I just thought I'd ask. It's strange, with SMS the game barely even plays like a platformer anymore, you wouldn't typically *need* the precision of a mouse in srb2. It's absolutely insane how many abilities you crammed into this character by the way, kudos.
The thing is, I barely use the mouse either as SMS minus the few times I need to use his flames. I use a "suboptimal" control scheme and do fine, so I imagine any control scheme will do once you adapt around it.

I had picked him up because I had hoped that he could capture some of the essence of what I had believed sonic could be in a 3d platformer. I had hoped he would be fast, he would roll around at the speed of sound. Zipping to and from, showing off just how acrobatic and cool he could be. And of all the wads I had played, SMS, while the closest, was still nowhere near close enough to be what I was hoping for. This is not to say he was a bad character, his concept, while a little silly, was still a beautiful idea. To make a sonic that would be fun to play as. It just that he was limited by what the game could handle and how he was implemented. But as the years went by, I grew bored of SRB2, the wads I had collected, and of SMS. There was very little worth remembering about the fan game and its vast array of characters and levels. I started to seek my ideal sonic in other sources. Thus, I slowly but surely forgot about the game and all it had brought with it.
Fast forward 13 years later since I first played SRB2, 10 years since I had last heard of super mystic sonic or SRB2. I have all but completely stopped caring about sonic only truly remembered them him for the music. Sonic became less of an awesome character and more that one game character that had awesome music. the only exceptions being sonic unleashed and sonic mania, two of the game that was made in the past decade and a half I had bothered to remember playing. By this point, I have truly stopped looking for what I had hoped to find in SRB2 with SMS, I had just figured it was never going to happen, thus I gave up. And to be honest, I was content with that, I have other things to do anyway.
Then out of literal nowhere, I see a video pop up in my recommendations. It read: SMS Reborn - Release Trailer. By this point, I completely forgot what SMS even was, but I felt curious about what this was and more importantly, why did youtube recommend this. And thus I had watched the video. The first time I was confused about what I was looking at. The second time I felt slightly less confused, but still very much thrown off on what I had just seen. I had to have rewatched that video at least 12 times before I had noticed that it wasn't confusion I was feeling, it was excitement.
Before I knew it, I had downloaded SRB2, downloaded SMSreborn-v1, and started playing. I had tried using sprint and kept faceplanting into walls and badnicks, couldn't land on platforms for crap, and I swear to creation itself, the number of rings I had to have had run by only to double back to grab numbers in the literal thousands. It was hell to figure out the controls SMS and commit them to memory. So I took a step back from his special abilities and focused on getting a feel for how he controls. Before long, I could say that I was finally able to use him moderately well. It was not at the skill level displayed in the trailer or in the GFZ1 speed run, but it was enough for me to enjoy what he offered. But then I got curious, what would happen if I start to imitate the stuff I saw in the trailer and that speedrun. So I gave it a try, and it has been a god damn blast to play as him.
I had never imagined I would have to wait 13 years to have the sonic the hedgehog I had hoped for back when I was 10. But now that he is here, and from the most unexpected source, I can say that it was truly worth the wait.
Sega could never make him happen. Sonic Team kept screwing up most of their attempts and kept jumping back to 2D everytime. And nearly all the fan game creators whoever took a step in the right direction were either obsessed with using momentum mechanics (Going down hills being the only way to build speed like in the genesis games) or tending to go on hiatus and never coming back.
But you actually did it. You made SMS into the figure I had always seen in the comics and the tv shows. You made SMS, no, Sonic into one of, if not the fastest thing alive. And for that, I can only say one thing.
Thank You. You did a kickass job of doing something that sega has failed to do for the longest time and what most others fail to do; making Sonic fun to play as and to watch. To bring the spectacle of the cutscenes and shows and make that into a playable character.
Thank you so much for making this happen.
TL;DR : This is one hell of a mod and I can sincerely say that this is how you should expect a 3D Sonic to play. This or the infinity engine, really depends on your preference.

Your initial experience is probably why SEGA doesn't do this. You don't want your players to feel like they're not in control, but even the best SRB2 players using SMS are CONSTANTLY at risk of losing control at max speed. Even something as standard as SRB2's vanilla speed thok causes newbies grief.
That and a mountain of complexity and options overwhelming players can make a game feel like an unclimbable mountain at the first impression. To add insult to injury, the Classic Sonic branch of this franchise was BUILD on simplicity. People just wouldn't buy it. You'd get reviews criticizing the controls and complaints on how Sonic handles...and then even more divided customers. And that's not even getting into how hard it to design stages around this level of speed and freedom. So of course SEGA can't ACTUALLY let Sonic move at supersonic speed while being mindblowingly accurate, stylish and acrobatic like he's meant to.
But I'm no business like SEGA. This was just unrestrained made for myself. Sure, I'd LOVE for everyone else to be able to get the same out of this as me, but I knew what I signed up for when I ditched the "Modern Sonic emulator" approach. SMSreborn probably won't be as popular as the old SMS as a result, but I'm grateful for everyone who can at least understand.

I really enjoy playing this mod, honeslty my favorite out of any SRB2 mod because of its variety in move sets and overall power it has. But the most fun part about it would honestly be Hyper Mystic Super Sonic and I have to ask, what's the kickass song that plays during the transformation? It's such a good song and I constantly hear it in my head.

When doing a dodge, hold custom1 and the direction you want to "boost" into. It's useful to get a move on right after doing a dodge, and an easy way to get into boostmode quicker.

HMS tutorial will be a long time from now.....I suggest using the controls aid to figure out his moves.
As for the haymaker, the fish are easy stationary targets to practice on! Try haymakering the bouncing fish in die.pk3, or clearing the crawlas at GFZ2's start to make an easy runway towards the two fish.
What does Legend mode disable exactly or did you already go over that
@@SpacedOut_Artemis It does what it says when you hover over it. It makes it play like the old SMS.
If you don't know how the old SMS played, this means you get the multi-homing speed thok, instant boost, spring trick jumps, and a different walljump. Practically everything else disables.

1.Can there be a mobile compatible like the homing thok rather than having to holding spin and then pressing jump you just do the thok when near an enemy and this would be an option in the SMS menu labeled mobile thok that replaces the air boost with the homing thok but not fully you can still double tap C1 for the air boost
2.Can HMS become customizable

You might have seen my name in a certain server or two, but, I'm known as Nobody in SRB2.
Now before people start piling up on me for roleplaying or something, I believe in a trusted one using another's account, or other everyday things for that matter.
In case you don't know, let's just say Angel got a little upset and sparked a potential riot on the Message Board.
Also, I'd like to keep myself anonymous for the sake of my weird and funny sounding real name.
Right now I'm using my friend Angel's YT account, like I did when I met another friend starting with SNW (Sonic Network World).
Originally Angel was planning to trudge his way here, full of sorrow and willing to make up, but I'd just like to speak for him though, so, hear me out, and I quote;
If you ever get bored, so bored in fact nothing you do takes the boredom away, try doing what I call "lighting a taddy little spark and waiting for it to grow into something truly blessed (but could become cursed if you think about it for too long, y'know, The Secret? That hour-long documentary?)" or, simply put, a favor with a domino effect.
I know this might get even MORE boring, to the point it's excruciating, but trust me, that spark is like an everyday plant. Just wait for it to sprout and get bigger, you'll be thanking me much later. Much, MUCH later.
First, pull up SMSReborn, from there things get complicated, but you have a choice. Either edit the sprites or redesign them completely into the "NiGHTS Adventure Sonic" you were talking about here.
For the super form, I'd recommend your take on a regular Super Sonic (not Super *Mystic* Sonic, although you can do SMS for super if you wish, I ain't gonna police it)
You can reuse (most of or certain parts of) SMSReborn's abilities, although I'd recommend the abilities from a Sonic mod known as "BSonic" that I just downloaded earlier.
At this point I'd like to deflate you of the stress, strain, and extreme boredom by letting you know this is a "template," not a full mod.
The word template is in quotes because this is technically a mod, but it's supposed to be fully reusable, as part of the little spark's sort of "butterfly effect."
After the first phase (Creation) is through, you have a choice with which to initiate phase two (the Shine Cycle).
Privately pass it to me and let me release it through this channel, or release it yourself. I don't mind.
Remember, it has to be FULLY REUSABLE at ALL COSTS.
For the name, you decide. I dunno if you'd take just plain "Mystic Sonic," or "Bracelame Sonic (Bracelame = Bracelet + Flame)" or worst yet, "Shine Sonic" or "Shinespark Sonic."
It's totally okay if you don't want to do it now, just copy and paste this somewhere so you have time to consider.

If I get this right, your favor is: Turn SMS into normal Sonic. Make HMS Super Sonic. Then release it so everyone can edit that as a base and do with it as they please? Not likely.
First, SMS' Lua is ridiculous. Nobody's going to be able to learn from that, and it's been re-usable for ages. It'd make a terrible template. Second, if you want an Adventure Sonic, pay attention to MetalWario64. His sprites are far better, and he's doing Adventure Sonic right now. Lastly, I despise making sprites. The last thing I'd want to do is start a time-consuming project where nothing's new but sprites.

Also, Angel is willing to make it up to you especially, even if you're not shaming him publicly or privately, either way he's about ready to projectile vomit each and every apology he's got, if you know what I mean.
You could do this for me as an alternative in the meantime though; swap out SMS' regular running sprites with his sprint running sprites, just to add a little more nostalgia to him.
I know how you feel, even though Angel and I are rookie SRB2 modders, which means we haven't learned all that much about scripting and spriting, just editing scripts and making the character look cool in the character select.
I know you don't really wanna do anything right away, so for now, sit back, relax, binge some perfectly cut screams and drink some Red Bull.

You need the new version, SMSreborn-v2. Just check the release video or the SRB2 MB thread for it.
But if that's not your issue, I guess I'll start from the bottom. Notice how you spawn with a Mystic Emerald, and how it appears at checkpoints? Touch it to get a prompt to enter the SMS menu. From there, go into the SMSreborn menu, then scroll down until you find "save config". Just select that to automatically save every setting.

Now then, my issue is honestly an odd one, so the most I can really do is summarise what happens and hope that someone can tell me what I am doing wrong.
Here Goes:
First I would load SMSreborn-v2.pk3 and start a level as normal. I would see that SMS loads in with all his defaults and when I check the console, it says "executing SMSReborn.cfg". I then customize his setting in the SMSMenu, such as changing the color pattern to, for example, "No Special", so I can recognize at a glance if the "Save Config" option worked. I would then navigate my way to the "Save Config", press the space bar to confirm my desired set up, and hear a sound. By this point, I exit out of the SMSMenu and check the console again, only to see nothing has happened. I then choose to exit to the title screen and re-enter a level, only to see that SMS has loaded back to his defaults. I have also opened the SMSreborn.cfg in notepad only to see just the comments that were originally in there in the first place with no confirmed changes.
I have tried having the MSMReborn.cfg file in the subfolder that I keep the SMS character file and I have tried keeping it in the main folder where I place the autoexec file in, but neither options have any effect. I have even attempted to see what happens when I tried to use the save config button on a sonic transformed into sms or starting stage as sms. Both of those also result in failure. I just don't know what to do to make that one facet of this character mod work. Nothing I seem to do allows the game to write/save and of my customizations. I have even tried deleting it, but of course, that only results in the game never loading any cfg, let alone saving something to one.
Sorry for how long this has been, but I would rather get all the details out of the way. Thanks in advance for any troubleshooting you can provide and for being patient enough to read this comment.
Okay then.
So "NO SPECIAL" saves as SMS' default yellow color, which you can freely swap out of that color at will unlike the other special colors. So if that's the only issue you looked at, chances are it's saving fine but the yellow color confused you. Check with any other settings and colors and see if they save fine.
Second, the SMSreborn.cfg isn't used for saving. It's just an extra autoexec.cfg that specifically load when SMS is added. Unless you put a command in there like "addfile smsaltmusic.pk3", it does nothing.
Finally, the actual savefile from SMS is in luafiles>client>smsrebornsettings.dat. It shouldn't be possible for this to corrupt or anything, but if the file isn't there at all then it's not saving properly for some reason. Might be an administrator thing that's not allowing SRB2 to write luafiles at that point. If IT is there and you open it with notepad or something, it should say "SMSrebornautoconfig" followed by a bunch of numbers.
GoldenShine So tried out a couple things.
I had opened the SMS v2 pk3 file but couldn’t find the smsrebornsetrings.dat file when I use 7-zip to extract the files. This is not to say it isn’t in there, because when I type smsrebornautoconfig in the console. he swaps from what I set his setting as to his defaults, so everything is where it should be.
Next I had tried running srb2win as a admin but still no luck with the save config option. By this point I am convinced the fault lies more with my computer rather than anything else.
Lastly, I am completely okay with this. I’m only in the SMS menu for a few seconds to make the changes I want to make, and most of things I want to use, I already remember the console commands, so I lose nothing from not having the Save Config option.
SMS is still awesome to play as regardless. Thanks for helping me out.
The dat file isn't found in the pk3 or the zip smsreborn-v2 comes in. It's created by SRB2 after you click save config in SMS' menu in-game. To find the dat.file, you go into the SRB2 main folder, then the luafiles folder, then finally the client folder.

For what kind of device is that game
PC. There's a few half-baked ports for Android, Switch, 3DS, etc, but none of those are recommended at all.
Im playing and for some reason SMS automatically keeps shooting towards enemeys without pressing a button
What kind of movement is he doing? A homing attack and doing tricks afterwards? A sweeping kick? Is he just thokking forwards everytime he jumps?
@@GoldenShine Well i figured it out thanks to another friend.
However he was doing the jump homing bomb thing (Cant remember the name) over and over again until i had no more rings.
We figured out that in the controls for gamepad if the fire button is set to anything, then it will always loop due to possible anolog movement on a trigger or something.
It might just be a game problem and not a problem on your programing but I figured i would leave a comment anyways.
Also btw great mod, I have had a ton of fun (Though initially i was tuned off about it due to design and such...)
But after watching your videos on it I couldnt help but not only be intrested but also relate to how you feel as a creator.
and i dont regret giving this mod a shot, It has been a LOAD of fun.
Ahh. That's the third time I've seen people have that fire button bug in SRB2. Thanks for giving it a shot! In the further future I'll try to add a lot more options for controls to make SMS more accessible.

Simple as going to gamepad options and putting Fire/Fire normal to none.
Then going into configuration and put any button as fire

After watching these videos, I've actually become pretty interested in trying to become proficient with SMS. But I'm wondering, is a gamepad an acceptable option for using SMS?
I want to say it's more difficult to be precise in simple mode or just with a gamepad in general since I'm personally worse and less experienced at it myself. So I can't say.
SMS is fully supported for "simple" mode at least, minus a bug in v2 that makes ringbursting difficult if autobrake is off. That'll be patched, of course.
It makes sense that you need the precision of a mouse as oppose to a joystick, I myself play srb2 with a DS4 so I just thought I'd ask. It's strange, with SMS the game barely even plays like a platformer anymore, you wouldn't typically *need* the precision of a mouse in srb2.
It's absolutely insane how many abilities you crammed into this character by the way, kudos.
The thing is, I barely use the mouse either as SMS minus the few times I need to use his flames. I use a "suboptimal" control scheme and do fine, so I imagine any control scheme will do once you adapt around it.
@@GoldenShine that's really interesting actually, I think I'll give a few different control schemes a try and see which one I like the most. I subbed after seeing these videos btw, I don't know what you plan to do in the future but I'm definitely interested! I'll have to give that Samus mod for doom a try as well...

When configuring your controls, go to the very bottom. You'll find "Custom Action 1/2/3"! That's what I mean with C1, C2, and C3.

Yes, SRB2 can be played online or splitscreen and even has a few extra gamemodes. You will need to port forward to host online games.

Hey I tried sms on the iOS version of srb2 and every time I start a act I have a max ring count and I go Hms trust me it actually happened
That means you added HMScheat.lua together with SMSreborn. Don't add it if you don't want the cheat.
