Based on the acclaimed and award winning Swedish novel and film, Låt den Rätte Komma In, Let Me In is the story of Owen, a twelve year old boy who is feeling increasingly isolated and alone. Enduring the bitter divorce between his parents, and being the target of relentless bullies at school, the friendless and helpless Owen secretly spends his time entertaining thoughts of revenge against his tormentors.
When a mysterious young girl and her father move into the complex, Owen finds an unlikely friend in Abby. There's something different about Abby... she only ever seems to come out in the dark of night. But as the two get to know each other in the building playground, their friendship deepens, affording each of them the unconditional love and acceptance they crave.
When Owen finally learns just exactly what makes Abby so mysterious, their devotion and bond become unbreakable.

So many people walked out of this movie completely misunderstanding the character of Abby.
She isn’t nice, she’s not a lovely cute vampire girl who’s just looking for love.
She uses these boys to kill for her so she doesn’t arouse suspicion.
Everything she does in this movie is to groom Owen into killing for her in the future.
Owens life, will just be murder, enslavement and when he’s sloppy or too old to kill for her she’ll find another boy.

There's an epilouge novella to the original Swedish novel of Let Me In-titled Let the Right One In-where it is revealed that Abby turned Owen into a vampire so they can become an official couple. The ending of the epilouge depicts Abby and Owen fleeing from the cops into a snowy forrest after feeding on human blood, and are never to be seen again.

@@rafaelarcas942 why are we using the book as a reference when clearly this movie is only based on the book and not an exact rendition. It is it’s own thing and it’s trying to convey a completely different message about the character of Abby.
Quite honestly I prefer it to the book for the exact same reason Kikomochi has just described. The story shows a cycle and a dark one at that, hence the horror of what’s to come for Owen and future young men that encounter Abby. Without that cycle the film is yet another cliche vampire flick. The reason this movie is so special is because it throws most of the typical vampire tropes out of the window.

The Swedish version is the superior film. The pool scene was done great, but I wish they showed a closeup of Abby’s face and eyes as she looks into Owen’s eyes after the pool killings. Making that silent for life agreement. Talk about making an on the spot deal with the devil.

    • @Supperdude9
      @Supperdude9 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Interesting thing about that original version - the bully leader kept the head under the water. It had to be chopped off near the end of it all, but that was the priority. No self preservation, no flight or fight. He had to keep the kids head under the water as the others were being torn apart.
I'm watching the clip of that again. Almost 30 seconds. Almost 30 seconds the violence is going on of Abby tearing apart the boys, and the hand is STILL on Owen's head holding him down. The other kids are having their heads chopped off. One is being dragged around the water, flailing his legs. Yet the bully leader NEEDS to keep Owen under water, until his arm got chopped off.
We can talk about how Abby is, but that bully.... man. He NEEDED to do this to Owen, at the cost of his own life. ZERO self preservation. Made no attempt to run. He had to keep Owen's head there.

More importantly in this remake the writer(s) have ignore (either deliberately or because their stupid - you choose) the whole point of the original. The original movie-and the original version of this scene in particular-is so much more effective from a filmmaking and storytelling perspective. All one shot, more left to the imagination, Oskar losing consciousness while it's all going on, that beautiful shot of all the blood just starting to seep down as Eli pulls him up, movie ends right at the shot of both main characters smiling at each other cementing the fact that Oskar will be his/her new "caretaker" in a parasitic relationship in which he'll be expected to drain innocent people for Eli. All of it is just perfect. The American remake was such a disappointment.

The glass shatters and falls into the pool, with Abby flying across the pool. After Jimmy has his arm severed, she rips his head clean off his body. She takes a second to look around, spotting his brother, and drops Jimmy's head in the pool before running after Kenny, who is attempting to flee, and drags him back through the pool before ripping him in half. She then murders another bully, and can be heard chasing after the final one, flinging him back across the room and ripping him apart.

@@divertm1439 Just pay attention to the scene.
They look up when she yells, you hear the sound of glass shattering and you see a weird pattern appear in the pool (the glass hitting the water). Then, you hear her scream again, and if you look you'll see her speeding across the top of the pool followed by the crunch of Jimmy's head being ripped off. After that, you hear her rage again and considering where Kenny is dragged from it's clear she chased after him since he was beside Jimmy at first. You then see his body ripped in half and flung into the pool. Once Owen breaches the water you hear her ripping the one bully apart, followed a 'whoosh' sound as she chases after the final bully. You can even see her shadow moving in the dim light of the wall, and you hear the final bully's scream sort of 'move' across the screen meaning she ran after him and whipped him back across the pool.
I'm just assuming what's happening based on what we're given.

@Jeremiah Calle if you stumble across a child this evil, it’s better to just lock em up completely, as the most mild of consequences. If you’re trying to commit such acts as drowning a peer of yours in MIDDLE SCHOOL, there’s no hope for your life other than causing misery to others. Sadly enough I can speak from experience, as something like this legitimately happened to me at around the same age as these boys. I was 11, and my bully at the time, along with about 4 of her friends, ACTUALLY DID TRY TO DROWN ME IN OUR LOCAL PUBLIC POOL. I was able to get away from them luckily and ran to lock myself in a bathroom stall by they all decided to follow me and laugh as I was crying and coughing up water into the toilet. It’s fucking sickening that there are such horrible people that can get away with things like this simply because “they’re children.” You gonna try to play god? Then get fucked.

What was really interesting in the original one was that the head bully, with all that carnage going around him, he did NOT let go. He kept the kids head under the water. The other kids were dying around him and his priority, instead of self preservation, was to keep another kids head under water until his arm got chopped off. It's still somewhat here. All that stuff is happening and the hand is still on the kids head.

So far the reboot mini-series called; "Let the right one in" for Showtime.
I'm still suspecting the bully characters recreating this moment. Cause in the mini-series. Eleanor (The Abby, or Eli) of the series. Befriends the supposed (Owen/Oskar character) named "Isaiah".
Isaiah, is of African American descent. And is very scrawny compared to the others. Basically making him an easy target for Bullying.
He's more invested into magic. And when he met Eleanor, he was amazed by her ability to change her eye color.. and even move rather quickly...
Alike to how Owen, (And Oskar) from different adaptations... Manages to Injure one of their bully's by splitting their ear open. Eleanor sorta breaks one of the bully's fingers, when she discovers that; One of them ordered their group to gang up and hold Isaiah down, to demand the truth of a magic trick He and Eleanor did... But with no explanation, they proceeds to harm Isaiah... By beating him with a bag of ice.
Angered. Eleanor finds this bully, gives him a warning.. And when he acts all tough, and flips her off, she swiftly snaps his middle finger... He reacts all panicked, and runs away screaming his head off... (Ouch)...
I believe that'll set the tone similar to how Owen and Oskar, injured one of their bullies.
Where; in the 2022 Mini-series, the bully character's will eventually want to settle things only against the weak one... "Isaiah".
And boom, maybe-- this scene comes into play... But, more differently.
