    Former senior member here ... identification number 570237. MER-VA-064. Based out of the city of Richmond Virginia. I often went around to schools hosting recruiting events trying to get young people on board. I never served in a search and rescue mission, but I did other great things like helped to mold young kids into disciplined Cadets and along with a team that I was working with, we prepared each individual for a future in Aerospace, business, the military or any leadership position in the business world. I served for two and a half years before I ended up leaving and joining the Virginia Defense Force, the reserve component of the Virginia Army National Guard.

      Actually, it was founded on December 1, 1941, which was about a week prior to Pearl Harbor. "On July 1, 1946, President Harry Truman signed Public Law 476 incorporating Civil Air Patrol as a benevolent, nonprofit organization. On May 26, 1948, Congress passed Public Law 557 permanently establishing Civil Air Patrol as the auxiliary of the new U.S. Air Force."

    • @Falcon-xx4xh
      @Falcon-xx4xh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been a senior member (adult) in CAP for almost 4 years., and I strongly disagree. I believe most others would also. We are an all volunteer organization with 33,000 senior members (and 23,000 cadets), if we didn't enjoy it/take great pride, we certainly wouldn't keep doing it. I intend to keep at it for as long as I can.

    • @elmoreglidingclub3030
      @elmoreglidingclub3030 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Falcon-xx4xh Good for you. But you didn't have my experience. The organization claims to want--to value--high-output use of the aviation assets but if you accomplish that and it wasn't "some colonel's idea" then it gets ended. It is highly political. The "good 'ol boy' network is alive and well. Innovation is smothered. Most adult members think that they're actual military officers and value maintaining that "authority" over real work. It is a lazy organization. Activity is preferred over productivity. Here's a clue: The layers and layers of debilitating rules and procedures minutia. Organizations do that to idiot-proof operations. It's a sign that the membership isn't as effective or capable as needed. That's CAP in a nutshell. It is sad, as I was a proud cadet member in my youth and joined as a SM with enthusiasm while recruiting others. Then reality hit. But, press on. Maybe you'll be a good role model for cadets. I hope so. P.S. I didn't even address the corruption I witnessed.

      @@unknown4133 If you are CAPNHQ or USAF assigned to CAP, you are only interested so you can learn how to cover your own butt.
      But briefly, wing level command staff routinely use CAP fuel cards to fund their flights that other members have to pay for. They drag their feet to reimburse members who pay for utilities (water, electricity) for CAP-owned facilities (and then just refuse to pay), for other services, etc. Assets are assigned to friends, especially at the “colonel level”; it’s who you know, not how effective your unit is. If anything is reported as possible wrongdoing or unethical, investigations are conducted behind closed doors with zero transparency and highly influenced by those in command-whose command is at risk. Members are not allowed to see/review any evidence of anything being investigated. CAPNHQ key personnel is more than a bit nepotistic and anyone questioning decisions are routinely fenced off.
      Bottom line, CAP “insiders” uses its fake military command system to protect itself from questions and to use taxpayer funded assets for its preferred use. Any member (and I witnessed this repeatedly) who suggests improving CAP’s mission or who questions availability and assignment of aircraft or vehicles is pressured to shut-up or leave.
      The response to weak flying skills among the membership is not to recruit and train better pilots; rather, it’s to layer on endless and detailed regulations designed to prevent activity rather than expand it. It’s as though the pilots are scared to fly. To wit, grass runway activity is not allowed. Taildraggers are not allowed. All the things that are challenging and produce safer, better pilots are simply not allowed. It makes no sense given CAP’s birth and history. They buy expensive “traveling” planes with high maintenance cost glass cockpits-for a mission that demands flying at 1,000’ AGL and looking outside the cockpit. It’s a complete waste of money and doesn’t address either today’s mission or look to the future.
      It’s a nasty, stinking cesspool run by self-important people who actually think they hold real rank. Sadly, they’re all doing it on my and your money with zero accountability. And as long as those in the USAF who are assigned to CAPNHQ as “oversight” get their cushy AF jobs for their duration, and have CAP’s expensive Cessnas to fly (and abuse) as often as they want, to accumulate ratings funded by taxpayers, they look the other way.
      Is that enough? And, who are you? What is your interest in this?
