    This popped up on my recommendations. The wife wants me to seal our 3 car garage. I'm about 1/3 done with the diamond grind.
    This was a good reminder how to do it right the first time.
    Thanks for putting this video together.

    Expansion joints vs contraction joints : Expansion joints separates the slab into separate pieces and includes a filler material ; bituminous fiber, plastic, wood, etc. It’s purpose is to make space for these separate pieces to go when they expand. A contraction joint is tooled or saw cut into fresh or green concrete to control the “guaranteed” cracking caused by contraction.

    HI MTICH! Loved watching the video. We have tile floors throughout our house in Florida. You have just given me another idea on what to do when we remodel. While tile is practical for the area, trying to keep the grout lines clean is impossible. Luxury vinyl was the plan to replace the tile. Now I am thinking LV for the living, dining and bedrooms, but definitely like the idea of epoxy for kitchen, baths and laundry room. Thanks again!

    Hey Mitch why don't you need to use torch/heat gun to remove bubbles like you do when you do counter tops or panels? Thanks and awesome channel btw!!

    • @StoneCoatCountertops
      @StoneCoatCountertops  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could still torch for technique and to remove air if necessary, most if not all the microbubbles incorporated by mixing can be popped with 91% isopropyl. It will take a few misting's waiting 10 min or so between. Torching would work also just not both at the same time!!! Let me know if you have any other questions

    • @mitchquist

  • @tarak9412
    @tarak9412 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Mitch, I have a question. I am considering doing this on my cement floor in the basement. But, does it offer any insulating quality? I am considering doing a layer of spray foam on the floor first, would that work? I live in a colder area of Canada, so this is why I am asking. Also, can you start to provide in the description, the retail cost of the projects? Just an overall cost so a person looking at doing a project like this has a good general idea before going into the details.

    • @StoneCoatCountertops
      @StoneCoatCountertops  ปีที่แล้ว

      The flooring epoxy offers some but not much insulation from cold concrete. I don't think spray foam would be the proper product to do what you're looking to do either. Maybe dense foam but on a floor I worry about denting or damage down the road. The epoxy will help a little though, put a throw rug down that would help a bunch too.

      If the cement board was installed properly with thin set under you could apply a layer of level quick let fully dry then apply the moisture seal epoxy primer. If the cement board is loose and not installed correctly you'll want to pull it up

      Very long time, use the non-skid with the UTC or Polyaspartic topcoat for best results. You can always reapply the topcoat in an hour or so of labor years down the road to get the floor to look brand new. The coating will bond very well if prepped properly like in the video

    As always I enjoyed the video. I have a garage floor that slopes toward a floor drain and an outdoor concrete patio that slopes away from the house. How concerned should I be about epoxy self leveling itself?

    • @StoneCoatCountertops
      @StoneCoatCountertops  ปีที่แล้ว

      The metallic color coat layer will want to self level to the slopes. It doesn't run fast and is manageable. It can cause the design to flow to the low spots just keep that in mind when designing the marble. purposely steer some of the veins knowing they will slightly move. Pull up the drain masking if possible 2-4 hours after mixing when the material begins to set up. Or use a utility knife and score the perimeter of the tape and peel next morning when still fresh. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @StoneCoatCountertops

      That's a hard one! The rustoleum stone spray down over a faux paint floor could be an epic floor! The flake is the easiest system to install! Throwing chicken feed - the end! Installing over wood is simple too! No grinding.
      Fill sub floor seams with floor patch, sand back flat.

      Great question, and thanks for your business! That flooring epoxy is still part of our new system. It's now branded as our flooring epoxy midcoat. For best adhesion over concrete, use our Moisture Seal Epoxy Primer rather than the flooring epoxy as a seal coat. Use the black or gray it will look great under metallic flooring. If u use the moisture seal, you'll have extra flooring epoxy since you won't be using some of that for a seal coat. Hey Mitch the floor looks amazing!😁I have a question, I leveled my countertops with levelQuik RS I want to use your white epoxy undercoat because I'm doing a marble look would I apply it before or after the seal coat of epoxy?
    I plan on doing a seal coat, color coat then a flood coat.
    Thanks I love your videos they are so helpful I have learned so much 😊

      Great questions! The epoxy bits really well to the concrete. If this was my job I would:
      Seal coat countertop with white tinted art coat 1-2 ounces per square foot of countertop and let cure.
      If the white seal coat covered enough you're ready for color coat, otherwise apply a couple coats of white undercoat let dry 4 hours
      Apply epoxy coat
      Apply top coat or clear coat
      Lemme know if you have any questions along the way
      -Mitch

    Hey Mitch..I've got a solid but flat looking slate floor...could the top coat go over this to bring up the colours and shine..?

      Any non pours surface needs a mechanical bond. If the slate is pours and will absorb some of the flooring epoxy you can go right over it.

    Brown color in a bathroom?
    Are you serious?

    I’m going to be upfront: I normally love your work, but those colors in that bathroom looks like someone didn’t make it to the toilet in time. Maybe it looks better in person. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      HA! Appreciate your feedback! It does look very pretty and video or pic deff don't do the epoxy justice! Thanks for watching, I have a white/black/silver floor dropping soon, going over wood subflooring

    Why does the Alcohol make it look pitted.

    • @StoneCoatCountertops
      @StoneCoatCountertops  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The alcohol helps to pop the microbubbles, meld and lace the colors. At first it looks like divots, when the alcohol dissipates the material will self level again, great question. Let me know how to help get your project started!
