  • The original Lishi key cutter is a great tool when used right with a little bit of practice. I highly recommend this tool. While it's no match for an actual key machine, it does a fantastic job as I shown here and it's very compact.
If you can not copy a key with it, don't blame the tool, it takes practice..

My first job in high school was copying keys with a duplicator machine (two vises, a guide and cutting wheel). I got a reputation for being able to cut keys that other people couldn't. For the most part they used the automatic machines where you flip a lever and the thing just goes. My secret - line up the shoulders and take small bites with the wheel.
30 years later I'm learning the Lishi tool so I can have more than 1 key for the project car I bought. Thank you for the clear (visually and descriptively) demonstration.
Those key machines had brass wire wheels for cleanup/softening the keys. A nylon brush on a drill would probably work as well.

Nice video tips! I'm going to revisit my Lishi cutter now, after many years. Can't believe I never sussed how to "nibble" the typically UK paracentric keys! Great job.

Well thanks so much. I had to sacrifice several keys to learn this much. But as you can see, with a bit of practice and a dash of patience you can get it wired. It's imperative to line them up good before cutting and keep checking that they didn't move. Good luck to ya

Loves the fact that you said, " I also use my Lishi as a.hammer!" 🤣 Sounds like me when I to use a tool for its unintended use when working in a pinch.
I honestly think I may go ahead and get one of these. Your videos are way better than mine, stay awesome my friend!

Yes, slow and easy. Otherwise you just smash the key. I know this isn't a match for a key machine but it will do the trick in a pinch.
