    Make your own keys?? I'm introducing a new segment called "Favorite Tools". These may be tools that you have, or just tools that are interesting and rare. Today's tool is the Pak A Punch key cutter, model 3T made by A1 Security Manufacturing. Unfortunately, at this time, A1 has stopped manufacturing the pack a punch tool. In fact, it seems they may have gone out of business. It's such a great concept and works so well! Not something for the average garage, but man is it cool! If you like unique tools or excellent machining of metalwork, you'll appreciate this tool. It's designed specifically for cutting Schlage SC1 and SC4 keys and key blanks. You can purchase different die sets for automotive keys, quickest, and other lock brands.
    I'm no locksmith but this is a professional tool used by professional locksmiths. I love the concept of locks, keying, pinning, repinning, and generally how locks work.

    A1 is out of business their door drilling fixture was one of the best on the market now Framon is making it actually a improved version of the original A1 - I don't use the Pak-A-Punch any more since I put electric code machines in my vans but they were like you said very well made. 😀

    The Pak-A-Punch rocks!I got it back in 2016 to cut keys for car locks that I practiced decoding at the junkyard.But yes, it’s a shame that A-1 went out of business, as I really wanted to get additional vises, depth knobs, and punches/dies for punching other keys.Hopefully, I can find used accessories for sale.

    The old Curtis Clippers was another tool like the Pak A Punch and is still commonly available used that locksmiths use for manual cutting of keys. Unfortunately the dies (they call them cams) are mostly for automotive key cutting although there are cams for some common padlocks. I suppose someone could find a way to adapt for SC1 or KW1 key cutting.

      I passed it along to a co worker. But it still gets used a lot.

    How did you calibrate the pak a punch to sc1 key 🔑

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It came all set up for the SC1 / SC4. Thanks for watching.

      You can buy different carriage/ die sets for different keyways and reuse the body itself. There’s also a calibration screw in case it’s a little off as well since these aren’t perfect and may cut a little high/ lo and may need to be adjusted.

      @@dzaliha that stinks. Apparently they have been discontinued. It’s a great tool and I hope another manufacturer takes over. I just used mine today, so it’s not for sale. Just keep an eye out. Good luck!
