I have watched several of these cat rescues online and they bring tears to my eyes. Now I have a story to tell. Last week I was just driving around our little town here in Indiana just to get out of house because I was bored. My wife still works but I am retired. I went to this little park where a lot of people just walk for exercise. I pulled into this little shelter with picnic tables and got out to stretch my legs and walk a little bit. I saw this little cat just laying in the grass obviously is some distress and not moving. I did not think I would be able to pick him up but I had to try. When I walked over to him he did not move. So I just reached down and picked him up and put the little guy in my car. When I brought him home I put him on the kitchen counter top with some cat food, water, and a thick towel for him to lay on. Boy did that little guy eat! After that he just curled up on towel and went to sleep. We all ready have 4 cats but I could not just leave him out there to die. Four days later he has adjusted well, made friends with our other cats, and living the good life. We think he is blind in one eye but otherwise in good health. We are going to take him to the vet this week. By the way, we named him Chester and he yellow and white. I don't have a picture of him yet.
@@strawberrypie611 Thank you. I named him Chester and he is doing great. Believe it or not my wife and I now have 4 dogs and 6 kitty cats and they all are rescued animals.
"many times a cat that you just met won't go into a carrier". My cats have both known me for over ten years. They won't go in a carrier willingly either!
13 years since Amber Kittay adopted my family, and putting her in a carrier is still hazardous to your hands and health. I recently got a sturdy backpack carrier and am letting her use it as a bed in hopes that the next time I need to take her out she'll just go get in her "bed" and then I can close it.
@@AShiftingofFate Try to imagine if some alien race 10 times your size just picked you up and put you in a box. They don't speak a language you do, even if they sound reassuring and you know them, this is still sudden and not with your consent. They take you in a weird big moving vehicle and then to a place where you see other fearful humans all in boxes. They take you out, poke and prode you. Hold you down if you struggle, then put you back in the box and then finally let you out back into your home. None of this is consensual, none of it makes sense. You don't know why it happened or what was done to you. You just know that box means that you will be taken against your will by a creature that while seems friendly is still taking away all agency and then handing you over to another who is feeling all over your body and maybe poking you with needles. It's quite literally alien abduction. They have to put all their faith in you. Now imagine also being a creature that is predator, but also prey so they are always easily set on edge for fear of their life. Of course they hate carriers. Try to lure them in with treats and pets. Take them for random small car rides where in they get more treats and pets, maybe a new toy. Make sure there is a comfy pad/blanket for them in the carrier and reassure them that things are fine. Try not to be nervous or show stress when you take them to the vet or put them in a carrier. The more positive associations you can make to being put in the small box and carried around, the better. Especially if there is an emergency and you need to get them quickly in one and get out. Heck, even with people we should be doing this. Next time you take your kid, or yourself somewhere that sucks, like dentist or doctor, treat yourself before and after. Go buy some small thing, get a nice meal, go for a walk in the park. Positive association is so important to creatures, even to humans. It's no wonder cats hate carriers. They experience nothing but fear, confusion, anxiety and sometimes pain in association to it.
@@vixxcelacea2778 Oh I agree, and I do take Amber out on walks and rides. The irony is she followed me to our car and hopped in as a juvenile which is how we got her so you would think she was a little more chill about traveling. So far she has the backpack and also an open car seat that was intended for a small dog. I want her to go quietly and calmly if we have an emergency since we live in earthquake territory, which is why I work with her to get used to being in a carrier and to walk on a leash. I won't leave her behind so I want her trained to not maul me if I put her in a carrier. But treats and cushions are the norms for us, and she is the closest I will be getting to having a child so I try to spoil her.

Seeing him lying there on the sidewalk alone in the beginning honestly made me cry. I was into drugs and spent months on the streets when I was in my late teens... I truly know how that feels. Jennifer Caraballo, some people poison them or (in rural areas) shoot them because of how much damage outdoor cats do to wild birds. It’s one of many reasons I keep my cat inside. I do NOT agree with their method of dealing with outdoor cats. My cat normally gets jealous when I watch these. When he sees other cats in a video, he will sit in front of me and do everything to block my view. For some reason when he seen me watching this video, he decided to sit beside me and watch it. Every time he seen the cat, he would put his paw on the screen, without using his claws. It was both cute and sad at the same time, it was as if he felt sorry for him and wanted to make him feel better.
He's obviously a very affectionate cat who loves human contact. It makes me wonder how someone can just discard a beautiful, happy cat like this one. He's going to make someone a great companion.
Seemed like an indoor cat. It probably got outside and got scared away from its home, and in a large city, it'd be hard to find. For such an affectionate cat, clearly it's previous caretaker wasn't cruel. The likelihood of someone like that willingly abandoning such a wonderful cat would be incredibly low. Lucky our man found him and got him back where he belongs, with people who can shower love upon him.
@@cyrusmagnus Sad to say, it happens all the time. People get evicted, or their child becomes allergic, or something else happens, and rather than find a new home for their cat they instead just throw the cat out saying "it can take care of itself." But of course a domesticated cat really can't, he doesn't have the street smarts of a feral cat born and raised on the streets. People dump domesticated cats in our neighborhood all the time, some of them being great cats, and it infuriates me because who just abandons their friends like that? But there's a lot of people who just don't view cats as anything to care about, just another possession to be discarded when inconvenient. GRR.

Aw, that's really sweet of you to take care of him, i hope he and your family are doing well ! :)

he clearly had a home before. How can people be so cruel to abandon an innocent being just like that. Heartbreaking 😥
Same ! Mine gonna make sure I pay the price if i force them get in cage🤣
Mine does because i got him the closed litter box that has a door that goes both ways so it’s easier to get them in carrier this way

Seeing him lying there on the sidewalk alone in the beginning honestly made me cry. I was into drugs and spent months on the streets when I was in my late teens... I truly know how that feels. Why do you love kaffs so much
@@ifeelverydead9180 my best guess is they are normally super relaxed and make excellent chill-out partners. Jennifer Caraballo, some people poison them or (in rural areas) shoot them because of how much damage outdoor cats do to wild birds. It’s one of many reasons I keep my cat inside. I do NOT agree with their method of dealing with outdoor cats. Finding homes for the strays, fixing the ferals, and reminding people that letting cats roam outside is bad for wildlife and dangerous for the cats are way better solutions.

He's obviously a very affectionate cat who loves human contact. It makes me wonder how someone can just discard a beautiful, happy cat like this one. He's going to make someone a great companion.
I
I thought the same, like it makes me sad and angry thinking about it
Seemed like an indoor cat.
GRR.
He looked so relieved to be inside and even being held and brushed he was so content.

Lol not all street cats want a home,I remember once I met a really friendly cat that was always outdoor so I decided to bring him home. He didn’t even last a day in my house, when I was gone he ripped a hole in the screen and got away. We just kept feeding him outside. Most of the cats I’ve had came from me finding them outside my door.
@@Ac2091-x1f -- what you have are really outdoor-indoor cats -- they like outside most of the time (more familiar) BUT they do like coming indoors -- with time, they'll change -- they convert to MORE indoors than outdoors -- I believe the cats you brought in were fearful of the sudden change and were able to make a dash for it thru the screen -- cats LIKE making their own decisions and live on THEIR terms -- you know how they are.
Mari Smetan that’s the only cat that’s ever done that to me lol. I’ve had 3 cats that like going outside so I let them. The rest never cared about going outside so I just let them stay inside. I think it’s better because they’re safer. All the cats that like going outside have had accidents.
@@Ac2091-x1f I've learned that once cats scope out their area, no matter how far they may roam, they return and stay close to home -- there's food, shelter, hugs -- adult cats KNOW the terrain and seem to stay out of trouble -- my neighbor has several outdoor cats and so far everyone is safe.
These always make me cry and make me want to hug my own cats
