  • Cooking times may vary - I am using a German oven. Please let me know what your cooking times have been. I appreciate your feedback!!
A beloved #cake in #germany that eloquently spans the gap between summer and autumn. This cake is made in three layers - a light, flavorful spongecake base is the foundation for fresh Italian plums and a crumbly, buttery streusel with just a hint of cinnamon. #cooking

Looks delicious! Making this tomorrow, but I'm going to use plums that I canned a few weeks ago, which means they're already cooked. I don't think that will matter though. I canned them in a cinnamon orange syrup.

I made this cake today and it was super easy and wonderful tasting. I cooked the cake portion 30 minutes because at 20 minutes it still looked very uncooked. Added the plums and strussel, which came out more like the top of a cake that usual crunchy strusseel but I figured it out, sor second baking I baked at 350 instead of 400! I purchased 2.5# Italian plums and since I went with this recipe over my first choice, I have enough to make another one tomorrow. My only disappointment was the plums weren't as tart as I like, IDK if it was something I did or the ripeness of the plums? BTW, would have loved it if you would have shown how you placed parchment paper in that spring form pan!

I’m so thankful for this great feedback! I will definitely post a short video on how to line a pan with parchment. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and for trying this recipe. Sometimes I wonder how accurate my German oven is, so I’m glad you took such care to remember what you did as opposed to what I wrote to do. I think your procedure will help people and I’m glad that it’s recorded here in the comments section. Thanks so much for being here!

As for the streusel - I’m going to look at my original notes for this recipe. I can’t recall precisely right now, but I do remember that some kind of weather change prompted me to change my original ratio. What has resulted, I think, is a less crumbly streusel. So I will check my notes and tell you what my original ratio was. 😊

Why show German recipe without measurements in grams?

Good question. I should add German measurements next time. When I published this video a year ago, I thought I only had American followers. I’ll do some calculations and put the European measurements in the comments. 👍

I will try this recipe again tomorrow. I followed the printed recipe. The printed recipe calls for 2 cups of eggs. Don't do it. Follow the video and use only 2 eggs.

I do apologize! I just changed it on my website. I hope it works for you now. Thank you so much for notifying me of this. Sometimes those recipe spreadsheets auto-fill and that's just what happened a year ago when I wrote the recipe. Thank you and I apologize for the inconvenience.
