One surprising thing is when did ECOWAS transformed into a combative commission. ECOWAS was formed for economic and developmental activities in the region. Suddenly, its now a policeman.

That’s what ECOWAS is meant for , I mostly blame The chairman , he lacks approach
      And use of words
Most of their leaders are possibly afraid of a coup in their nations

      Exactly Nigeria,
ECOMOG was used in to intervene in civil wars which both nations were experiencing, which was devastating the region, and since ECOWAS has stuck to promoting economic relations in the region

NATO is the reason of chaos in the Sahel after the assassination of Ghaddafi, so now NATO cannot pretend fighting terrorists. Since NATO arrived in Mali the security became worse, after 10 years the Mali was still occupied by terrorsits but after the coup d etat in 6month with the Russian Wagner was able to bring peace in their country. Mali is more stable now with Russians.

Very selective narrative of events. With power comes great responsibility. If you are going to delve deep into geo-politics then its very important to stick to facts without any bias. I say this because its a bit like trying to make a documentary about crime without ever mentioning poverty as an underlying cause.
I have a big issue with the constant drip of pro Russia propaganda and a conflation of events whilst being very selective in how the various actors are linked. For instance what do all the countries in that region with their recent military coups have in common? Ok, I'll say it; Russia.
With its information and military wing Russia has been planting the seeds of discontent in the region. Not because they care for the well being of Africans, but because they see an opportunity for some land and resource grabbing. Their work in countries like the DRC is well documented including human rights abuses and wholesale looting of Gold which is being targeted to help bolster Russia's economy. When Putin recently grumbled that he has funded the Wagner group to the tune of $1b, he didnt mean that he had cut them a cheque for said amount.
We should be very careful of those who claim to be our friends. Both past and present.

Dependance on Russia and China is still dependance BUT it is a more mutually beneficial relationship than the current one with the west. Yes the eastern bloc want access to African resources but unlike the sanctimonious hypocritical west, they generally don't engage in local politics with the exception of providing security. The local politicians now have the onus to begin the industrial revolution effectively improving the lives of their citizenry and reducing dependance on foreign powers especially the west because let's face it Africa is the poorest continent with the direction of the west and assistance of calous African politicians. So like it or not Russia and China are better powers to deal with for the time being than the West. Apart from neocolonialism, the NATO neocolonial interference in the former Yugoslavia, Libya and now indirectly through Ukraine against should tell you everything you need to know about Russia. In this story the Russians are the good guys. Concerning the instability in the Sahel why did the coups happen in the first place? It's funny how you link it all to Russia whilst ignoring the multinational state coordination fighting "Al Qaeda in the Sahel" with France and the US support with military bases on ground. So the west with their drone bases who have total surveillance if the entire Sahel allegedly knew who was where and yet somehow weren't able to get rid of them, yet when the people get fed up of Western hegemonic games and pretenses of democracy you blame Russia? Really?!!! Also concerning Russias seeking of gold in the DRC the Congo is a mess because of the United States not Russia. Second what the Canadian and Israeli interests in gold over there? Third what of the lithium? The phone which you posted the message I'm replying is powered by batteries made with lithium probably mined in the Congo by western interests. Basically there are more western interests mining in Africa. Russia is just a new player whom the west doesn't like and wish to remove so as not to compete with a new tougher rival that could possibly uproot them from Africa nothing more.

@@traykunable Let me try and explain this as simply as possible. Russia not only provide security. They also provide propaganda through their digital infrastructure (They have one in Ghana and Ivory Coast) They produce innocuous content that tells the locals what to think.
They also have produced 2 movies, depicting the glory of Wagner and Russia. This is their specialist subject; producing propaganda for the masses. Even your response above is full of their talking points. You will consume it but not know when you are consuming it.
Every Suhel region country that has a coup has Russia as the one common factor. They thrive on instability. where there is conflict or the potential for conflict. Then they will tell you that they will provide security for you. As long as you sign over your mineral sites.
These people are Not your friends.

    • @traykunable
      @traykunable ปีที่แล้ว

@@Obetv01 I don't think you read my post very well so bullet points.
      1. The Sahel was made unstable by the west and the gulf monarchies to extend influence and gain access to resources NOT Russia. This is a historical fact.
      2. Wagner PMC took advantage of the chaos to offer SECURITY AND STABILITY IN EXCHANGE FOR ACCESS TO NATURAL RESOURCES. See how different the 2 different approaches are? Please enlighten me on how the AFRICOM and the French Foreign Legions have improved stability in the Sahel compared to Wagner PMCs actual stabilization in CAR, Mali and Burkina Faso.
      3. EVERYBODY ENGAGES IN PROPAGANDA. What do you think Hollywood is? What do you think CNN MSNBC FOX AL JAZIRA BBC are? In what way is Russia making 2 movies about the glory of Wagner PMC way worse than generations of global propaganda by the west since the invention of the transistor radio?
      4. Every nation on earth engages in the pursuit of national Interests. How the global South engages ESPECIALLY IN THE 21st CENTURY is entirely up to them whether to their benefit or detriment. The fact is the the global North is waaaaaay ahead of the South. The West is a parasitic ruler and the east is more coorporative. If you are dealing with street thugs and one beats you up whilst extorting you and the other protects you from the other in exchange of a fee which you get to walk away with some change and your dignity, which thug would you prefer? Which leads me to my final point.
      5. Again the Chinese and Russians aren't saints by any stretch of the imagination BUT with regards to international relations they are BY FAR THE BETTER OPTION THAN THE WEST. Now it's up to African rulers to begin redirecting focus on the welfare of their citizenry and make things better Not Russia or China, Africans and as things stand AFRICA NEEDS TECHNICAL SUPPORT BECAUSE THE EXPERTISE DOESN'T EXIST IN AFRICA. That is the Fact. The Chinese needed technical support from the US starting in the 1960s to get to where they are today. The good news is that due to the developments in science and technology the leap won't take 4 decades but merely 2. These people have the experience and we don't. Rather than reinvent the wheel, we lay out a plan of were we want to be based on our unique culture and circumstances and they assist us getting there in the best way possible. America Britain or France certainly aren't going to do that for you (with Britain we had an opportunity during the independence era where they rightly pointed out that we weren't ready for independence and needed training and preparation until the 1980s . Botswana and Namibia took the deal the rest of Anglophone Africa didn't, and the difference between those 2 countries and the rest of Sub Saharan Africa after 70 years is clear for all to see but that's another topic for another day) BUT the Chinese and Russians will. They NEED nations to trade with. They have finances and technology. We need to improve and join the rest of humanity in the 21s century. We have natural and human resources. LETS MAKE A DEAL.
Russia and China are no angels but except you have been living deep in an untouched part of the Sahara or the Congo they are by far better partners to pitch our tents with.
      That's it.
