If I remember correctly, the melons barely moved initially when being hit, I assume they have a lot of inherita due to their mass and can displace the shell easier than thin metal, which is easily pierced and bent out of the way.
Then the impact angle will make a significant difference, too. A flat surface will be penetrated, however if the shell does not hit the center of the melon with its tip, it will naturally be pushed upward by the resistance of the collision.
Just some amateur estimations here, no deep physics stuff.

So a bullet loses a lot more energy on a watermelon than a sheet metal that bends out of it's way.
Like when you do a belly flop into a pool.
Also, watermelons are naturally round and hence they roll with the shot, absorbing even more energy.

Ais Stein-San actually m4 Sherman’s had some of the highest rates of survival of any tank in WW2, and the breach is probably safe to fire from inside. This being said however most guest would not be good to have in the turret, for fear of them being struck by the breach falling back.

The "big birtha" on the railway cars was unbelievable. It actually had a custom track made for it because it was as wide as like six train tracks. Those guns were not used much because they were too hard to move and assemble and too difficult to hide. It took a crew of 120 wehrmacht soldiers to assemble and operate that gun But when fired it could send a projectile 35 miles. And The ammunition that was shot out of it was so heavy that after a few times of being fired they had to increase the size of the artillery because it wore the barrel on every useAnd it was so expensive and time consuming to replace the barrel they would just increase the diameter of the artillery

@@scottfriske9186 Honestly don't really know or care how much they cost, I'm just quoting Matt here who said that it was getting expensive to keep firing... Also, it's not a real war scenario, they are firing at a final fantasy sword, which is quite a lot cheaper than a tank :P
