This is such a powerful subject that resonates deeply. Victimhood is the avoidance of accountability for the authentic life we want to live, the boundaries we don’t set, the desires we ignore, the lives of others we try to live, the people we cling to, the reactions we have to triggers, and the fear, shame, or anger we avoid or fail to control. Throughout our conscious lives, we are accountable and responsible for our actions. Acknowledging the patterns of victimhood means opening the box of all the moments when we avoided facing reality, discomfort, or the consequences of our actions (or inactions). It brings with it a lot of guilt, shame, and grief for a period in life when we had all the responsibility in the world.
My question to you is, how do you forgive yourself for these feelings? What does compassion to yourself look like when the only thing you know is victimehood.

"Acknowledging the patterns of victimhood means opening the box of all the moments when we avoided facing reality, discomfort, or the consequences of our actions (or inactions)." 🙌 🙌
As far as your question, it's a good one! Shame and guilt and grief are tough to acknowledge. But maybe it makes it easier once we explore the very valid reasons for why we sought/seek victimhood in the first place. The victimhood identity is a genuine place of refuge for difficult aspects of life that we don't yet have better solutions for dealing with. If we can hold ourselves in compassion for our urge to lay claim to victimhood (if we see it as a genuine intention to take care of ourselves) then we might lessen our shame and guilt.
In other words, can we experience and express genuine compassion to the part of ourselves that has the impulse to identify as victim?
      Does that land with you?
