    I have tried several techniques but always end up with lines from top to bottom. Not lines from the edge of the roller ... more like darker streaks. Everything I've researched says to keep a wet edge and make sure to layout from top to bottom. Very frustrating not being able to get a consistent even color when rolling 16 ft - 20 ft. walls, especially when there's a large window allowing direct sunlight in. Thanks for your video ... I will try your technique.

    Hi,
    great video - just wondering if you have any tips as I have a similar height wall (3600mm) but it is in a hallway that is only about 1700mm wide so when i have my pole extended to reach the top of the ceiling it makes it too big to be able to lay the wall off in one continuous stream (pole hits the opposite wall). Any tips so that I'm not leaving marks halfway down the wall.
    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply, yes I have subscribed and have watched and liked almost 98 percent of your vids. You do great work, I am abt your age 25yrs exp painting own my small company. You and I have the same work ethic old school I guess lol. Just curious you use the 14in roller is there a reason you don't step up to the 18in.
    Also do you price jobs by the hour or by the job, and I know all jobs are different but in general???
    Last question do you have help or a crew on full interior jobs, where the entire house gets painted or do you fly solo most of the time.
    Thanks my friend you do good work.

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ken, I prefer the 14 inch roller for several reasons, first it's a little easier to use then the 18 inch and the 14 in seems to get down the side of most doors frames etc. Also at the end of a day rolling ceilings I don't feel completely drained.
      I do a bit of both, some are quoted and some are charge up.
      I generally work by my self and get help when required, have had up to 7 people helping me but I find it too hard to control the quality.

    How do you have that much paint in the roller?? I’m trying to paint walls at work and my roller runs out of paint in less that one stroke but you’re able to do an entire section. I’ve tried multiple different rollers and it’s always the same.

    • @howtopaintinfo
      @howtopaintinfo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on roller nap size, I use 15 to 18mm nap and the type of roller sleeve you use, I use lambswool most of the time and also it will depend on how much paint you load on the roller. Hope that helps.

    Hi,
    I am jealous as I watch this, because I have had a lot of trouble with this. You make it look soooo easy. :)
    I have watched MANY TH-cam videos on how to get a perfect paint job. I am 5 feet tall and have 10-foot ceilings.
    When I paint small walls (e.g., over a window), they look great. If it is a narrow wall (e.g., 2 feet wide), I have discovered that I can just roll horizontally, overlapping half the width of the roller, and there are absolutely no visible lines/marks when it dries (even when I flash a light from the side).
    When I paint a big wall, it looks equally great, until I shine a light on it from the side. I have tried to "feather" beyond the wet edge, as suggested by many other videos, because I am simply not that fast, but that doesn't seem to be helping.
    I tried breaking up the wall into more manageable squares, but when I flash the light, I see lines from where the squares overlapped (think tic-tac-toe). Like I said, the walls look fine if you look straight at them. It's the "light from the side" test that they are failing.
    I am using Duration paint from Sherwin-Williams, and it dries really fast. My walls have a lot of patches, and someone suggested using thick nap roller to get some texture on the wall and camouflage the change in texture.
    I am not sure if my problem is the paint, the roller, or just the fact that I am not a pro. :(
    Do you have any advice (other than hiring a pro)? :)
    THANKS!

      @howtopaintinfo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you really can't do it yourself then yes maybe hiring a pro is the best for you. Maybe do what you can and are comfortable doing and leave the rest to a pro, will help with cost doing what you can.

      You most likely didn't have enough paint on the roller or maybe the nap of your roller sleeve was to short. Use around 15 mm nap, you should find this will work better.

    Another great video! I've got a problem in my room, I have big cracks that are about a half a centimeter wide above the water pipe. What should I use to fill them?

      Depends on how much movement there is but I would use base coat, that's the product they use for flushing plaster board, remember base coat and not top coat.
