Rivian with 10% of Tesla’s employees manages to overhaul their flagship models in two years, while Tesla hasn’t touched S or X for several years now. Kudos to Rivian.
Also kudos to Rivian for keeping prices sky high for the entire run of R1s while Tesla has lowered prices substantially. Additional kudos to Rivian for also developing the Supercharger network and releasing new vehicle models. Oh wait, that's also Tesla.
With all respect to Rivian as I am a fan and about to pick one up next week, these models were originally announced with production intent in 2018, so more like 5-6 years. Also, wouldn't call this an overhaul, as they look almost identical as the original. Tesla makes similar iterative changes but without the press or fanfare. Compare a 2024 Model S/X with one in 2018 and you'll find substantial changes on the interior and internally.
I still don’t understand why all the electric cars are trying to go stupid fast instead of focusing on get a better range, plus it’s a family car and safety is the priority.
Owning an R1S it feels like they fixed most of the issues I had; tighter suspension with less noise, 12v issues, camera resolution, and offroad torque control - which is a little rough. Although its a bummer they shrunk the frunk, and made the large battery smaller - which is less of a deal now, but justifies the max pack size.
Are you joking? They are hideous! Too tall, ugly LED lighting, and zero functionality as a work truck! They look soft and weak, like a fat guy ordering a second scoop of ice cream. To be beautiful, the form would follow the function. But it's only function is to be a grocery getter, so to be beautiful it should look more appropriate to it's tasks. A lambo or a bugatti is beautiful because it is designed to go fast. That's it's only job, so its form matches its function. Same as a Mack or a Pierce fire truck. Beautiful machines because they look and perform the job they are supposed to do. You know what pickups are beautiful? A Toyota Hilux diesel from the 80s. It's total perfection. Indestructible. Same with a 1960s F600 from Ford. Oh, or an early 2000s Chevy with an 8.1l and a zf6. Those were real trucks, made for real work by people who knew what trucks are for. Rivians are like city boys who come to the county fair wearing their clean new hats and their dry cleaned Wranglers. Total posers.
If Rivian Added Massage Seats in the front, It would be damn near close to the perfect all around EV for me. They should make a dedicated "Luxury" Version that ditches the included Off Road accessories and adds more Comfort features. That is all I could ask for. Other than that its as close to perfect as I would want.
Would have wanted one IF they had made it NACS already. Truck not being compatible with v2 superchargers means I have no fast charger in my area at all...
Your drag run in the quad motor showed a speed of 120mph before you cut it off. My R1T Launch did a 11.5 but the top speed limiter kicked in 200 yards before the end! So my top speed was just 110 mph, even though my 21" Perelli's were rated higher, they just set the limiter on all 2022 trucks at 110 mph based on 20" off road tires!
Did I miss Rivian buyers asking for more power? What would the additional HP be good for aside from bragging rights and upping the rate of people being sick when driving a vehicle like that fast?
RIVIAN, or Kelley Blue Book’s TH-cam Channel, where do I even begin?…WOW, a very informational upload general overview of the R1S and R1T. I still need to search for the comparisons of Tri-motor MAX Pack and the Dual-Motor Max Pack among the other tiers of motor packs Rivian has to offer. One day, in the ideal scenario, I’ll eventually make this upgrade in work/life balances evening out. Those slick tires look ideal for only the quarter mile drag races for that 0-60 2 second times to be met, however, I would go with the all terrain tires Rivian has to offer no matter which stock rim size. It sounds to me, if I’m not mistaken the smallest battery pack offers a minimum punch of 271 miles at full charge. Upon user wants and needs per lifestyle and geolocation in addition for local mechanics and shops to service these as any other electric movement of manufacturer and their superchargers throughout the U.S. and international land travels and those challenges concerning ones personal safety are still in question and up in the air for me.
Recently tested R1T. Interior is incredible compared to my tesla. Software is years behind the tesla’s. And glass roof, @rivian please add built in shader like all legacy makers do.
Did they get rid of that obnoxious battery regenerating mode? You cannot turn it off and it makes the gas and brake pedals super sticky, and the ride not smooth
Question is, what if you get into a small front-end accident or bottom out on your way to your favorite fishing spot….are you on the hook for a new battery and/or is the vehicle considered a total loss?
Im totally not sold on EV's yet, but Rivian is the only one I'd be interested in buying. However, I'll take half the power for 500 miles of range. EV's tend to lean towards performance instead of mileage which defeats the purpose imo.
The CCS port on the 2025 R1 models seem modular, meaning they would be able to swap them out to a NACS port easy in the future - for a price I’m assuming
Rivian is a beautiful truck. It will eventually take over Jeep. They just need to reduce a bit of the Rivian symbolism found on the vehicle. Too much makes the car look cheap. They'll be good. Try playing with the position of those signature eye lamps too.
NO NACS??? USELESS. Even people using the adapter still say is not enough. What is it that these companies dont understand? Or what I am missing? For me no NACS, means my next car will be the cybertruck, even with less mileage.
It's hard to trust a channel when there's literally one nebulous sentence in this entire video dedicated to the biggest problem with Rivians: the worst on-road suspension of any car in history. You seriously just phoned in the update on that?
The suspension system on my 2023 R1S failed the very first day I got it. While proudly showing the car to my friends, a sudden puff of air erupted, and we watched in disbelief as the front of the vehicle dropped so low that the frame nearly touched the front wheels. Rivian towed the car, and it was repaired within a few days. However, a year and 21,000 miles later, the same issue happened again-this time while driving on the freeway. I had to pull over and fortunately live near a service center in Costa Mesa. The car was towed again, but with this problem recurring within a year, I strongly suspect a significant flaw in the suspension system. I’m relieved this didn’t occur during a mountain ski trip or a desert adventure, as Rivian markets the vehicle for. Now, I hesitate to drive the R1S far from home due to fear of another breakdown. The vehicle has been sitting at the service center for days without being examined. Despite multiple calls, I’ve only been told that the shop is backed up and they’ll get to it when they can. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Rivian needs to expand its network of service centers to better address the flood of issues reported by its customers.
