This song is a masterpiece. And the part that really gets me from the way I interpreted it is that at first, it's like he's just singing a song about his wild adventurous brother, and how he met up with him out west and had a hell of a time. But then, at the end you realize he's actually reminiscing about the last time he saw his brother before he died. That last chorus "he hit that guard rail at half past three" to me, is a total plot twist. I listened to this song about 6 times today and my arm hairs stood up every single time. Just great storytelling within a song.
I don’t have an older brother, but the third verse hits hard for me. This is the kind of country music that makes me wonder why so many people don’t like the genre. I love it when songs tell a story, and Luke Combs is damn good at making you feel the lyrics as he sings them

If you have ever got that call as a parent or a sibling or as a friend you will know why this song touches your soul and brings the same tears and racing heart as it did when your phone went off that night. I made it to my baby sister and niece before the cops and ambulance and our parents and they all stayed withing 10-15mins from the wreck I was an hour and 20mins away thankfully everyone involved was okay but my sister in law wasn't so lucky a couple of months later. The fears that come from that one phone call can change your whole life within seconds.❤
