Velosolex Restoration! Finally in the right direction (Part 6)

Let’s coninue on this complete 1965 Velosolex in depth restoration.
Finally taking the last pieces apart. After deep cleaning the majority of the parts everything will be glass bead blasted. Not very spectacular, but the only way that guaranties a good basis for the 2K epoxy primer. There are 3 different ways of building up the sheet metal pieces depending on their overall condition. Either they are straight and without deep craters from corrosion. In this case 2K epoxy primer will be wet in wet together with the 2K one step top coat. The second option, the pieces show craters but will be fine with a thin layer of filler after 2 K primer. This will also be done wet in wet. After a curing process, these parts will be sanded an get the top coat thereafter. The most time demanding pieces, mostly also the once you look at the most, are pieces with little dents and craters from the corrosions over the year. Here we need to be patient in order to receive good results. First and right after the blasting 2K primer is crucial to avoid new corrosion with in days (counts for all the sheet metal pieces). After a complete curing of the primer, the spots that need further attention need to be sanded before the putty application. After sanding in to shape, another layer of primer is required, then the filler, let it dry, sand and then comes the top coat.
Within this movie I show the pieces that are ok with the first option. One side fender I need to sand down and redo the topcoat as I touched it with my spray suit in the spray booth after it has been painted. It looks ugly. Some miner dust inclusions to polish, then hose pieces are ready for assembly and their second life.
The whole spraying process was done in a little tent to keep the dust away. It always shows good results. However, if spraying a lot of pieces, the spraying dust gets a factor when it comes to a good visibility to see what you are doing. A venting system help. The smallest pieces are extremely light and even if fixed at two spots, they get blasted away by the pressure of the spraying gun. I will to the top coating with spray cans.
