Wow, a someone who considers himself both experienced with the game and with the grail knight I actually learned quite a bit in this video, game mechanics are always fun to talk about rather than just meta talents and weapons.
Knightly temper also works with the ability as well, since its considered a critical hit, but it executes if the remaining boss hp is less than x2 of the critical hit instead of x4. Add it in your starting setup in chaos wastes and when you see a late game boss watch it get deleted.
Man, your channel is a gem! Left a thumb up and subscribed. Hope to see more videos like this, especially on Waystalker, Mercenary, Bounty Hunter and Sister of Thorn one day.
With the bret long sword. Honestly, dodge as youre heavy attacking, hold into heavy right away for parry then repeat. It becomes a rhythm game, with 3 phases. Movement, attack, parry. When you get the rhythm you become unstoppable. It also makes you move faster. Also, the third heavy attack will break mob shields. If theres a lot in a mob, light attack right after then heavy again and youll continue to just do overheads. Meaning you can comfortably deal with shield mobs.
I love how he jokes about playing with the team. I mainly do Solo que on CW. Every lobby I went through, there are three kinds of players. The green circle chaser, the speed runners and the one that really wants action and always on the front leaving the rest behind. Also shout out to my fellow special players that plays 250+ ping from SEA on western servers.
Thanks for following through :) just to clarify, when I mentioned damage, I didn't mean the numbers themselves, but the fact that people talk about GK being one of the biggest damage dealers but I faired better with Kerilian or Sienna so I wondered what do I do wrong. Thanks again for the vid, it gave me what I needed and more
Really nice guide! Even tho I have 1k hours it was still interesting to watch. I like GK for his "piss off" type of ult, especially the horizontal slash.
Another really helpful and interesting guide. Would you consider making a quick dedicated video to your choices of Necklace, charm and trinkets and why. Good alternatives and deceptive traps like DMG reduction Vs chaos, scaven or area. Thank you again for the video!
I really like gk because you actually feel like a grail knight, in the sense that you need skill to be good on him, to pull out the right combos at the right time, the positioning, weapon swap, kiting and so on. All of that requires training, awareness and a bit of intelligence, hence why I said I feel like a grail knight when playing him :)
For the Bretonnian longsword i find the best horde clear combo to be light-heavy-light-heavy you always get the first light attack and then get the second heavy attack and because of the passive blocking on the heavy you can pause if there is a plague monk or beserker that you dont catch in the corner of your eye or something
When I first played this game and used the Bretonian my first time I thought it was the best weapon of any melee weapon ever designed in a game. It is an absolute dream to use.
"get your Damage Taken number down" is probably THE BEST advice to any players who want to play this game beyond Veteran difficulty. I wish we could have this as our rallying cry across all Beginner Guides.
i use executioners sword for hoard since the light combo is only horizontal slashes, then a mace for most everything else, then ult for chaos warriors and bosses
I finally got him and damn. I was pressed into a corner with the whole team dead on Bogenhafen finale, a million enemies pressing me into a corner, but I ran the stagger temp HP with the shield you recommend in this video. I just spammed the shield push and bash for like 1 full minute, berserkers be damned. I was totally invincible. Thanks for the tips 💯
As a grail knight main let me tell you all you need. Mace and shield for temp hp and specials (much better than executioner sword), greatsword for hordes. (saves you from when you f up the block cancel on longsword) I just use swift slaying on both but its up to you. greatsword, hack away. mace and sheild, shield push and two lights will kill almost any elite on legend. just get a headshot on the first light. Bonus - You can easily kill plague monks at range with a heavy greatsword swing headshot. Also use horizontal slash for blessed blade. Using a loadout with no shield is never worth it. You will get overwhelmed by ranged enemies when your teammates die
Personally I just find shield weapons to be very boring. I think most shield weapons combos are very bland and get boring real quick, at least for me. Also I don't particularly enjoy relying on shield bashing hordes for THP. Altho I will say that having to deal with ranged specials without shields is quite painful, that's why I rely on luck to have some special sniping career on my team LUL
If anyone is finding this post rebalance: I have found taking concoction on your charm and virtue of the penitent to be very lucrative now that Blessed Blade takes longer to come back.
BTW, not sure if it worked this way before, but Virtue of Heroism as a second talent is a way to go now. The description is incorrect, it doesn't increase power lvl, it increases raw dmg, as well as increases ultimate dmg (cause ult counts as heavy attack somehow).
I run concoction to get the effect of every potion, I first throw grenade, then ult, then potion and ult again, at this point there is always someone running proxy so that's 3 ults. Concoction also makes it so you can just chug every single potion you find and the ones you spawn.
As a GK main, that's my go to for that exact reason. Patrol? Chug. Boss? Chug. Pooped out a pot and nobody has their slot open? Chug! It's reliable and consistent, no matter the team composition or their level of skill.
Yeah honestly Im not a huge fan of the executioner sword because having to loop a heavy and a block cancel just gets SO annoying SO quickly lol. At least with the bret longsword you have a combo of two before canceling, which I personally find has a better rythm for me. That being said, executioner sword has the benefit that you can actually get nice skins for it by playing the game and don't have to waste money on a cosmetic DLC so if you care about that kind of thing, it's maybe something to consider
I prefer the execute talent for executioner sword so I can get funny CW onehits and funny mass hord clears edit: the double stab can actually kill 4 stacked elites as well, very situational tho/u have to set it up
Hey! Im a lvl 35+900 something GK main from dwons, and i wanted to talk about some things here: 1) For shielded weapons ALWAYS use Virtue of the Joust and (except from bcr) either push/block angle or stamina (i personally prefer pba). No need to take attack speed, pwr with skaven is only good on bret s&s since it gives you one shots of specials on cata (i believe, havent played this since ive changed to pba). And on charm for GK ALWAYS take attack speed! Most of his popular weapons (greatsword, bret longsword, exe sword) are slow and they just like the speed. Well if you like playing smth more meme like 1h mace+1h sword then obviously you wont really need it on charm, but since using slow heavy weapons is your priority then take pwr with chaos+atck speed on charm! 2) Virtue of Stoicism is good when youre playing crit one shot builds like 1h sword/m&s paired with exe sword. This build allows to one shot cws on cata 3, and you dont need stacks. I personally see no purpose in taking this talent with shielded weapon since Virtue of the Joust gives you a huge amount of stamina recovery, which helps to tank way better with shield and clutch. 3) About talents: first or second in the first row is up to you, i agree, but other... I dont really see the point of choosing third in the second row over other two. Smiter is always smiter, in the row with quests you shouldn't be dependant on them too much (imo), that's why i always take pots+concoction on charm. And about virtue of audacity: no, you can kill 6 monks with it or 4 stormvermin. It takes skill. 4) His perk is not the main thing that keeps him alive with thp on kill. All i can say is you need to score melee headshots and be able to chain his combos (like first light spam then mix push-third light-third heavy-third light into it and so on). That allows to kill elites, not only raw power. 5) GK is not a boss killer. Believe me. Just believe me. Please. And you can solo literally any boss without taking dmg. Just uhhh... learn animations? 6) I personally AM capable of special sniping (assasins out of the air with my heavies on bret sword and more), and not only specials.... absolutely enjoy killing my teammates with barrels and bombs XD (that's why i only play solo, bots wont get mad). 7) Damage number is important. I learned from solo that if you can't deal damage as GK, nobody else would do it for you. Stop saying that he only needs to rely on special snipers and other dudes from his team. He's pretty self-sufficient and NEEDS to deal damage. Cata true solo is doable on him. 8) everyone likes bret longsword, and 1h sword is IMO better with crit build than mace&sword. 9) Dont hold your ult for too long, you can get hit. Please. PS my build i play most of the time: 212331, bret longsword (atck speed+crit+swift slaying), bret s&s (bcr+pba+opportunist), atck speed+chaos+concoction, health+bcr+barkskin, stamina recovery+crit+shrapnel. That's it. Mace and shield is also a good choice since is has a bigger pba, but it's up tp you which shield you like the most.
I had my suspicions about GK being classified as a boss killer after doing my testing. While on lower difficulties he does actually just destroy bosses, as soon as you get to cata and modded difficulties, he can burst them but his consistent dps on them is no where close to shade, bh, or even slayer lol. Glad to see you confirm this. I do agree that damage is important on GK, I was more coming at it from the angle that someone learning to play should focus on their defense first, then learn to pump out the crazy damage GK can. Thx for the comment, there's some good info here
5) GK is not a boss killer - true, his damage is not enough to singlehandedly drain the boss HP to 0, but there is another way - the best way to kill monsters as a grail knight is to push them into the oblivion with the stabbity-stab ultimate (which, sadly, does not apply if there is no ledge around)
@@esutairennot only ledging, but also pushing into boxes and almost all corners (like on enchanters lair any random spawned boss (prob except troll) can be killed in 5 secs with right positioning). But you can also do it with FK, can you call him a boss killer? By killer I usually mean damage, but in general FK, GK, IB, BW, WHC, merc, even pyro can all ledge bosses easily.
Hi! I just purchased Vermintide 2 this morning and the Grail Knight DLC. I'm very excited to play the game, I was wondering though, is running the game with a Bretonnian longsword and the Executioner Sword a good idea? I want to be the damage dealer to bosses so my team can complete the objective. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts on that particular play style?
Nah it's not bad. Most people just prefer the others due to easier/faster combo into a heavy attack version of the shield bash (s&s/m&s have first heavy as shield bash) since the heavy version has more stagger. For stagger combos, Bret s&s has push into light shield bash, and the other is light, heavy, light, with the 2nd and 3rd being back to back shield bashes (used when out of stamina). Something alot of Bret s&s haters don't talk about or maybe don't know, is out of all shield weapons, it has the best anti armor combos. You can do: 1) heavy - light - heavy 2) push attack - heavy - heavy - light Personally I'd suggest using both Bret weapons on him, and Bret s&s is really good for quickly swapping to, to make space in bad situations.
An extra note on dodge/dash dancing- you can "walk dance" a troll Its the same idea, you walk into him and walk backwards instead of dodge. unfortunately it isnt foolproof, as the bile troll pukes and you will need to rotate 90 degrees
Any tips for someone that want to use the bret shield and sword? I like its push + shield bash combo and as a Bretonnian player in Fantasy battle it kills me to use Empire shield.😅
I believe the charged pickaxe heavies have the highest armor damage for a melee weapon in the game, no? Probably no where near highest dps bc its so slow, but probably the highest single hit next to exec sword and HGH. I think its like 60 armor damage or something.
I just hit lvl 30 with my grail knight. Is there a red rarity Bretonian Longsword weapon that I can pull or craft in this game? Or is orange rarity the highest weapon rarity that I can get with the Bretonian Longsword?
Using the bretonian sword and shield combo looks better then excutioner sword ( heavy + light or heavy + light + heavy ) ( more damage is less time). The bretonian sword looks defensive for me. We can block and attack enemies, so we take less damage (also stagger using heavy attacks). We can do more damage hitting enemies in the head and its easy using bretonian sword heavy attacks. If we are using heavy attacks ( bretonian sword ) look like the range is better, we can use this range to avoid most enemies range in their attacks.
Running concoction with the strength potion boon gives you a repeatable way to spam your career skill, although I've not tried it since the cooldown got nerfed.
How do you open the weapon compendium? I cant find this anywhere in game or even looking it up, literally zero info on this anywhere. Hope someone knows how please! thanks
how do u get the grail knights ult to kill like 4 or 5 stormvermin, i can only get like 2 or 3 with the cleave ult, i swear i saw some people kill 4 or 5 before with that ult.
No mention of Bretonnian sword and shield? Why? It has the best stagger combos of all shield weapons in the game. Personally, it feels pointless to use mace and shield with the Grail Knight, when Bret S&S is available.
Easy, mace and shield is much practically useful with both higher tier enemies and hordes. I find the mace and shield is still more then capable of stunning enemies when needed and offers superb protection along with simple but effective attack combos.the shield is, odd to me personally, then again, I'm the same way about it you are with the mace and shield.
“When you’re fighting a boss, you’re likely just fighting a boss.” Bro whenever I play a boss killer I can never fight bosses because the ads all swarm around me
Imo that combo is best used once swift slaying procs, otherwise you can get caught out easily, with mace/sword being really short range vs other weapons
Imagine having a class without ranged weapons. A class with a perk enabling you to ignore another special just by holding block and facing them. Yet so many people just DITCH the shield on GK. It is, imo, the biggest mistake and the symbol of greed when people dont have shields on Grail knights and Warrior priests. You can make yourself so much more usefull and survive so much more when you have one, but half of the lobbies that have either class just dont use shields, and 90% of the time they just feel way less usefull to the team.
I play both GK and warrior priest and honestly I cant play shield weapons for 5 mins straight without getting bored. They are very powerful yes but at the same time they are SO bland compared to other weapons, at least to me. I find their combos boring, and they lack that feeling of melee combat that other weapons offer (like mace and sword for GK, or paired skull-splitters for WP). So the reason why I personally don't run them is I'm not willing to sacrifice my enjoyment and fun to be more optimized.
If you have Grim quest but really don't want the book, just grab it and throw it away. The HP regen buff stays even after you discard the book.
Forgot to mention this! Tyty

0:14 Smh, Slayer erasure.
GS/XS ain't bad.. witcher build yo!
Wierd choice with power vs skaven on your charm
I'm so good i can lock down bile trolls :p
Stamina is not one of the most important stats in the game. Stamina recovery is.
Oh I didn’t know he was actually good I thought he was trash from what I heard
Imagine having a class without ranged weapons. A class with a perk enabling you to ignore another special just by holding block and facing them. Yet so many people just DITCH the shield on GK. It is, imo, the biggest mistake and the symbol of greed when people dont have shields on Grail knights and Warrior priests. You can make yourself so much more usefull and survive so much more when you have one, but half of the lobbies that have either class just dont use shields, and 90% of the time they just feel way less usefull to the team.
Big 2 hand sword cool
I play both GK and warrior priest and honestly I cant play shield weapons for 5 mins straight without getting bored. They are very powerful yes but at the same time they are SO bland compared to other weapons, at least to me. I find their combos boring, and they lack that feeling of melee combat that other weapons offer (like mace and sword for GK, or paired skull-splitters for WP). So the reason why I personally don't run them is I'm not willing to sacrifice my enjoyment and fun to be more optimized.
im greedy because I don't like using the weapon you want me to use? ok buddy
executioner is nice but im not taking it over bretonian. no way. you know you can discard books right? penitent is crap honestly, stick with Duty.
Ну уж нет... так не пойдёт...
