Interesting to know that Historia grew just like Ymir, always trying to be a good person to everyone, never denying anything. Until she meets our Ymir, who told her to live for herself.
I love the parallels between old Ymir and our Ymir as well. Like how both of them were blamed by the group of zealots who raised them and then they both sacrificed themselves to help the others, only for them both to get fucked over anyways. At least our Ymir got to reclaim her life and go out completely on her own terms. Those three characters have so many cool comparisons.

When Ymir sacrificed herself for King Fritz, i think she expected something out of him (love?), but that bastard still considered her his slave, so she chose death (instead of regenerating) to be free. But the power of that parasite made her stuck in the path world, she is enslaved even after death, she couldn't even properly die. He made his children eat their mother even though he didnt know how titan powers work. That's how desperate he was. That centipede looking creature actually have a resemblance with 2 things: 1. In scientific manner it resemble to a Cambrian lifeform called Hallucigenia, which lived 500 million years ago (during Cambrian Period). It was discovered in Burgese Shale, British Columbia. The thing is, it is known as "Origin of Life" mainly because of its vast biodiversity fossilized in it or almost all lifeforms on Earth is come from it. So to be clear, Ymir came into contact with 'something 'which they refer as God which also means 'Origin of life' represented by the Hallucigenia. 2. It is also a reference to Norse Mythology, mainly "Nidhogg" who dwell beneath the world-tree Yggdrasil and eat its roots. This is highly injurious to the tree, which holds the Nine Worlds of the cosmos.
So basically Attack Titan is probably the little will of Ymir to go against King Fritz. Since the goal of Attack Titan is to seek freedom, maybe it has something to do with her (Ymir) gives Eren a will to free her from the King's self-righteousness. "You've been waiting for someone, for 2000 years."
Regarding you first point, remember what Eren Kruger said in 3x21, when Grisha asked him who Ymir exactly was: "Under Marley authority, she's a pawn of the devil. During the Eldian Empire era, she was a miracle of God. _Some say she touched the source of all living matter_ "
Read this from twitter that the “entity” is the substance that contains the parasite underneath the tree is likely a reference to the ‘Eitr’. this liquid is the origin of all living things, which aligns to kruger’s words at the end of s3: ‘our ancestor ymir touched the source of all living matter.’
"Eitr is a substance in Norse mythology. This liquid substance is the origin of all living things: the first giant Ymir was conceived from eitr." from Wikipedia
@@Revelation40000 And speaking of Nidhogg, the "one bird" we occasionally see all throughout the show (like when Eren's head is shot off and its flying across the water or at a certain time with a scarf), could be hinting at that bird sitting on top of Yggdrasil. It's never really truly addressed in the story, but a "singular bird" appears surprisingly often in the story and often at pivotal moments. Not like the typical "swarm of birds leaving the area", but more like a watcher or messenger.
@out I’m not a manga reader don’t worry sorry no it’s just a theory but I’m almost positive about the Annie one, the Reiner one not so much just fits the narrative cause it’s technically the same stuff yk
This episode for me was one of the, if not THE hypest episode. Mappa absolutely have outdone themselfes with this episode. The animation, the voice acting, the ost. Everything was perfect!

@@randeroni I dont think there is a direct formula to calculate time in the paths. my understanding is that the time is eternal there, therefore Ymir wasn't longer in it than Zeke. yeah, I know they said 1 second last years, but that was only Zeke's initial understanding of how that space works.
If you guys go back to 6:42, the coordinate only had 3 paths. It grew to millions as the royal blood is passed on to generations. I thought that was a nice subtle detail!
That wasn't subtle lmao..infact that wasn't even a detail lol that shot was for the sole reason of showing 3 branches which then divides into thousands..that wasn't the detail of the scene that was the SCENE..
Eren is carrying everything to be free, to protect his precious friends, sacrificing himself. Somebody has to do it and it has been even decided and he knew it was him. That’s literally the slave of freedom.
Now since it has been animated... Please watch the ending credits of season 2. All of this was spoiled by Isayama a looong time ago, but nobody knew since we did not have the overall context. It's crazy that everything was already shown back then :'D
Ymir was actually kind of waiting for permission to be free. She didn’t even know how to fight for herself, or learning that it’s okay to fight for herself. She has this deep slave mind that caged her as if freedom is a sin.
You guys are one of my favorite reactors! You focus on the show at every moment, and you understand the plot and the message so well. Plus, it must be so cool to be able to enjoy this show with your sibling and be able to talk about it in depth, knowing the other person likes the show as much as yourself. I've been trying to get my sister to watch it but she hasn't gotten around to doing it. Hopefully, she will soon haha
Grisha crushing the royal family in the beginning is looked over because of the rumbling, but those shots were insane, mappa is not afraid to show the gore and violence, I honestly didn’t think we’d get those shots, only flashbacks, glad I was wrong
We're finally here, been waiting for a long time for rhis to get animated and i wasn't dissapointed. Especially the rumbling part. The OST mixed with good animation gave me chills.
An episode written for history. The plot of the first episode is literally Ymir memories and Eren feeling towards her and that he understands her suffering and is completely different from Zeke who is like other cruelty!!! The emergence of the founder's power and Eren's speech to the world is indescribable, truly a work that will not and will not be repeated and the hero of history 👑🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 thank you Isayama 👑👑👑👑👑👑
Eren: Getting rid of our race? I could never agree to a plan that messed up. Sorry, brother. Zeke: Oh. I see. Eren: Instead, I'll get rid of all the other races instead.. Zeke: *NANI?*
I keep coming back every week and saying the same thing over and over but god damn this episode did not dissapoint. The scene all of us manga readers had been waiting on, finally! Who would of thought there would be another character with the most tragic backstory ever again :D Nah but seriously tho if you think about it it's so fcked up that when the titans turn into titan shifters they need to eat the titan shifter in human form, after this episode it makes a lot of sense considering Ymir's children literally ate their own mother in human form. Seing Ymir actually being able to make a choice of her own and not being told she is a slave in over 2000 years by none other than Eren was so beautiful to see. She made the exact same face Eren did when she realized she was "free." You could think about it like Eren being Ymir's "freedom" that she had been searching for and waited for 2000 years to finally hear. Hearing the OST from "Hero" come back during Ymir's backstory was so perfect. Such an amazing OST, i had chills throughout the entire episode. Remember what Kenny said in season 3? "Everyone is a slave to something". We clearly see here even Eren is a slave to something, freedom. He is so obsessed with achieving freedom he is literally willing to kill the entire world to just achieve it for him and his friends. I also noticed in this episode they skipped almost all of chapter 123 if im not mistaken. Seems it will be coming back in a later episode. And Iseyama naming the first episode of the show "To you 2000 years in the future" then this episode "From you, 2000 years ago". I say this every week again but Iseyama has really written one of the most well done stories of all of our time. It's hard to believe one man created this entire show. There are no plotholes in aot and everything comes full circle. A modern masterpiece which will go down in history.
All the royal bloods always commanded Ymir. She was used to it. Eren was the first one to say, "(Please) Lend me your power?" Even Zeke at the last moment was shouting Ymir to follow his command. Ymir realizes here is someone who genuinely cares for her...
@@MostWantedTH-camr I'm not a manga reader but you can already guess how eren's mind works based on the last episode before this one. He's willing to manipulate grisha in such an awful way, despite grisha raising him with so much love. Now imagine him caring about some stranger from 2000 years ago.
I mean, everything is about to happen 🤣🤣🤣 And we finally got to properly meet the most tragic character in this story. I remember being so angry when I read this part. And the choice of hiding her eyes right up till the end is the perfect way to convey a life like hers
24:31 my older brother lmao. He is a dbz and one piece fan. When AOT first airing he actually watch it but stopped at early season 2. Reason is he hated it when the voice actors went crazy with screaming like how Eren did before he transform to titan in the last fight with annie. The scream actually wasn't that bad. But it reminded him of tokyo ghoul lead character. And he hate him. He always mocking that character like "boku wa.. aaAARGH.." thats why when Eren scream he was like "oh, not again.."
If you need a name to refer to the creature as, I use Nidhogg as that fits where it was found and the Norse elements around the Titans Ymir found it at the bottom of a giant tree, near the roots. What dwells at the roots of a great tree?
Eitr is the "thing" that gave Ymir the power of titans. In Norse Mythology, Eitr is a liquid source of all living matter, that was drunk by Ymir becoming the first Giant.
I was waiting for your reaction and I love your discussion and since I know the manga I won't say anything and probably I will just cry again but one thing, the scene where Maria, Rose and Sina were eating Ymir was shown at the ED of season 2, I discovered this 2 days ago 🙂🤦🏽♀️
ISAYAMA IS A GENIUS 🙏 How he managed to planned all of this from the beginning, from the first episode that named ' to you 2000 years " to this episode" from u 2000 years ago" 👏
I love how almost every reactor is saying the episode was over in an instant. It's cause you are all NOW IN THE PATHS where us manga readers were lmao. Welcome.
I’m pretty sure you can see that spinal blue thing in season 3 part 1 after Eren uses hardening for the first time (I don’t remember the episode number)
@Eldian "All the titans in the walls have begun to walk to trample the world. if you're not already in Paradis, you're pancake. thank you and good luck."
If Ymir takes many years to make one Titan in paths which in real time Zeke screams in an instant, does that mean if she's 2000 years in real time, she's been slaving away for atleast 2 million years plus ? . That makes Ymir too depressing and I want to almost root for her to end it all
The parallels between the original Ymir and "our" Ymir + Historia are insane. Ymir, in a sense, just wanted to be free after a life and afterlife as a slave--and Eren was the key to help her exert our own free will for the first time. What a tragic backstory. This episode was so short yet crazy intense. I'm still curious as to the nature of that entity that came in contact with Ymir. I have so many questions. Damn. When Eren said he was going to destroy the entire world back in season one, he wasn't bluffing. :O
You sure you guys haven't been foreshadowing either? Cause the lighting of your setup matches exactly with the apocalyptic lighting when Eren transforms 😜
I like the connection between the first episode and this one. Ep #1 "to you, 2000 years in the future" which could be a reference to how Ymir might have sent Eren messages, like the dream he had at the very start of ep 1. Then this episode "to you, 2000 years ago" references Eren finally being able to free Ymir after 2000 years thus fulfilling the "circle" that was sent in motion by Ymir. Isayama is a creative genious.
I am not sure if you guys know, but there are talks that the anime will not cover all the chapters of the manga. Apparently, it will only adapt until chapter 131 or 133, and after that there will be a movie to finish it all. So, get ready to still not have all the answers that you are expecting 😅
@@LRibeiro97 Yes, they changed the pace. If you noticed, episode 80 adapted the end of chapter 121, 122, and ending of 123. So it wasn't even 2 full chapters. And based on the next ep. titles, plus some leaks, they will not adapt after 131 or 133 (I really don't remember which ones). But there is no official confirmation yet ;)
I'm Japanese and I don't understand English very well, but I liked your reaction and subscribed to the channel. I'm looking forward to posting in the future🥺
breathe. breathe. don't mind me, i'm reminding myself i should breathe... i think eren didn't involve mikasa and armin for the simple reason that he knew how grave his goal was going to be. he basically decided to carry the burden/guilt all by himself... i dunno but it also feels like he took on ymir's role so she can be finally free - he gave up his own freedom for all his loved ones' freedom. i may be wrong... i'm an anime-only audience.
Based on its form, the creature that gave Ymir her powers is a hallucigenia, an actual creature that existed millions of years ago and one of the strangest species that has ever existed. It's described as a bizarre and crazy worm that looked like an allien. Current invertebrates derive from this and the name refers to the enormous increase in biodiversity that occurred for it and how its appearance seemed like a hallucination, Its appearance was so strange that the paleothogues could not believe it was real. It actually is an armored worm that lived in shallow seabeds, like, literally a worm with legs and spikes, and a relative in the evolutionary tree of life (but well ofc, with some fantasy elements since we're in a fantasy story). Reminds of what Krueger said, that Ymir obtained her power doing contact with the origin of life and material.

“Ymir’s titan is the scariest we’ve seen so far”
Eren: give me a few minutes i got you.
That centipede looking creature actually have a resemblance with 2 things:
Read this from twitter that the “entity” is the substance that contains the parasite underneath the tree is likely a reference to the ‘Eitr’. this liquid is the origin of all living things, which aligns to kruger’s words at the end of s3: ‘our ancestor ymir touched the source of all living matter.’
i think the halucigenia was a titan, since the real ones are like 0.5 - 5 cm long
It's a real fossil called Hallucigenia. Said to be one of the oldest forms of life ever discovered.
"Eitr is a substance in Norse mythology. This liquid substance is the origin of all living things: the first giant Ymir was conceived from eitr." from Wikipedia
@@eyla5789 Considering it was found at the roots of a great tree, this entity might as well be Nidhogg.
Annie chilling in her cristal for 5 years and all of a sudden hearing “hear me subjects of ymir…”
💀✋
@out eren undid all the hardening, so she was freed at the same times the walls broke, same with reiners armour
@out I’m not a manga reader don’t worry sorry no it’s just a theory but I’m almost positive about the Annie one, the Reiner one not so much just fits the narrative cause it’s technically the same stuff yk
And she is “wet” because of Eren 😂
Annie looking in Paths at her dad dropping the grocery bags:
“What are you doing? Stand up, dad.”
This episode for me was one of the, if not THE hypest episode. Mappa absolutely have outdone themselfes with this episode. The animation, the voice acting, the ost. Everything was perfect!
Attack on titan is a show where the characters are competing for the "most fucked up fate", and somehow most of them are winning
I dunno, Ymir could be the undisputed champ at this point, nothing beats eternal enslavement 😢
@@padzman91 not eternal, 2000 years. and Zeke has been twice inside the coordinate, where he spent who knows how many lifetimes. while Ymir's fate is far from ideal, her sufferings were not that intense.
@@szepi79 2000 years in real time though. In Paths, one second can last several years so she could've been stuck there alone building titans for millions of years
@@randeroni I dont think there is a direct formula to calculate time in the paths. my understanding is that the time is eternal there, therefore Ymir wasn't longer in it than Zeke. yeah, I know they said 1 second last years, but that was only Zeke's initial understanding of how that space works.
"That's by far the scariest titan we've seen."
Eren: "hold my beer"
No, it's demon titan from No Regrets ova 2
If you guys go back to 6:42, the coordinate only had 3 paths. It grew to millions as the royal blood is passed on to generations. I thought that was a nice subtle detail!
That wasn't subtle lmao..infact that wasn't even a detail lol that shot was for the sole reason of showing 3 branches which then divides into thousands..that wasn't the detail of the scene that was the SCENE..
@@shan_2933 true but I feel like most people missed it, which is why I mentioned it. Even most reacters didn't seem to notice
Wait where are my replies going I said the same thing twice but every time I refresh it isn't here wtf..
It's crazy that everything was already shown back then :'D
th-cam.com/video/rbfHY8mkhT8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Funimation
Dude, ever manga readers were like 'wtf is this?' when S2 came out, Isayama's such a mad genius.
@@calebcomet1868 Fr!!
Ymir was actually kind of waiting for permission to be free. She didn’t even know how to fight for herself, or learning that it’s okay to fight for herself. She has this deep slave mind that caged her as if freedom is a sin.
Can’t wait to get home from work to watch this! This is gonna be monumental!
Mikasa: My life is a tragedy
Eren: My life is a tragedy
Levi: My life is a tragedy
Zeke: My life is a tragedy
Ymir: Hold my beer...
Reiner : I am a honorable guest here 😉

Episode 1 - To You, in 2000 Years
Episode 80 - From You, 2,000 Years Ago
“That’s by far the scariest Titan we’ve seen”
Minutes later:
I like how they saved the walls name thing for this episode. I started reading the manga from ch 117 so I got the same kind of experience
Just found this chanel, the intro animation is sick!!! Simple and beautiful!
Comparing the subtitle of the first episode with the subtitle of this episode, you can see how well thought out and wonderful the work is.
Footsteps of Doom is my new favorite ost for right now. It has the perfect apocalyptical sound to it
Grisha crushing the royal family in the beginning is looked over because of the rumbling, but those shots were insane, mappa is not afraid to show the gore and violence, I honestly didn’t think we’d get those shots, only flashbacks, glad I was wrong
怒涛の地ならしシーンに驚愕しているリアクションが、最高でした!ありがとうございます!😭
DJ Eren said, "good evening, lovely people"
Eren: Getting rid of our race? I could never agree to a plan that messed up. Sorry, brother.
Zeke: Oh. I see.
Eren: Instead, I'll get rid of all the other races instead..
Zeke: *NANI?*
"Zeke's euthanasia plan"
Eren: sorry brother it's not outrageous enough
10000000000000000000000% :)
SAY THE LAST PART LOUDERRRRR
All the royal bloods always commanded Ymir. She was used to it. Eren was the first one to say, "(Please) Lend me your power?" Even Zeke at the last moment was shouting Ymir to follow his command. Ymir realizes here is someone who genuinely cares for her...
too bad eren doesnt give a flying f&$k about ymir and only uses her to reach his own goals just like everyone before him.
@@K0K0BB I assume you are a manga reader. Why are you spoiling bro?
@@MostWantedTH-camr ha?
what spoiler? its literally in the episode.
@@MostWantedTH-camr its not spoiling I didn't read manga and I'm able to tell Eren did not really care about her and only cared about his goals
@@MostWantedTH-camr I'm not a manga reader but you can already guess how eren's mind works based on the last episode before this one. He's willing to manipulate grisha in such an awful way, despite grisha raising him with so much love. Now imagine him caring about some stranger from 2000 years ago.
Fun fact: in a recent interview the creators of the episode said that the coloring of the Ymir flashback was heavily based on the movie 300
every time they say those were the best episodes. and i live for it
At 10:33 you can witness rumbling happening 😂(camera shakes a bit)
I mean, everything is about to happen 🤣🤣🤣
And we finally got to properly meet the most tragic character in this story. I remember being so angry when I read this part. And the choice of hiding her eyes right up till the end is the perfect way to convey a life like hers
11:44 lol
24:31 my older brother lmao. He is a dbz and one piece fan. When AOT first airing he actually watch it but stopped at early season 2. Reason is he hated it when the voice actors went crazy with screaming like how Eren did before he transform to titan in the last fight with annie.
The scream actually wasn't that bad. But it reminded him of tokyo ghoul lead character. And he hate him. He always mocking that character like "boku wa.. aaAARGH.." thats why when Eren scream he was like "oh, not again.."
For anyone who watched tokyo Ghoul, i mean this scene th-cam.com/video/FQUCOPSnlI0/w-d-xo.html and when he scream at rize after this.
The characters are always screaming in DBZ and One Piece, tho...
@@titan-framboise3126 the screaming is different. I don't even know how to explain
Crazy right a Pig is responsible for all the events of Attack On Titan 🤣🤣
Imagine the escaped pig stumbles across titan Ymir smashing up soldiers and is just casually watching like "wtf" 😂
If you need a name to refer to the creature as, I use Nidhogg as that fits where it was found and the Norse elements around the Titans
Ymir found it at the bottom of a giant tree, near the roots.
What dwells at the roots of a great tree?
the creature is loosely based off Hallucigenia and erens founding titan resembles it quite a bit
The “entity” is called “the source of all living matter”
Muchas gracias por reaccionar, estaba esperando este episodio con ansias 💗💗
Eitr is the "thing" that gave Ymir the power of titans. In Norse Mythology, Eitr is a liquid source of all living matter, that was drunk by Ymir becoming the first Giant.
Funfact: *Now it only gets crazier after this*
I'm nervous✋😃
"that's by far the scariest titan I've ever seen"

19:53 "little colossals" lmao
I’m Japanese.
I’m your reaction fun🤩
Thank you 😊
Might wanna go back and watch the Season 2 ED now real quick, it's pretty cool.
Sumary:
Zeke: What are you doing stepbro?
Eren: TATAKAE!!!
Ymir: You son of a bitch, I’m in.
These guys been saying "this was the fastest episode yet!" for like 5 or 6 episodes hahahaha
ISAYAMA IS A GENIUS 🙏
How he managed to planned all of this from the beginning, from the first episode that named ' to you 2000 years " to this episode" from u 2000 years ago" 👏
I love how almost every reactor is saying the episode was over in an instant. It's cause you are all NOW IN THE PATHS where us manga readers were lmao. Welcome.
10:30 the camera shaking made me think I was tripping
この兄弟のリアクションは最高!
I’m pretty sure you can see that spinal blue thing in season 3 part 1 after Eren uses hardening for the first time (I don’t remember the episode number)
Yeah, I thought it more like titan who is he now
Love the reaction guys!! Will support you always! 🔥🔥
"That's by far the scariest titan I've ever seen" say less Shayne
Now you guys are watching weekly! This is really when things start getting crazy. Every show you guys are watching is about to go ape-shit. God Bless.
the rumbling happens ...
12:02 "what is about to happen?"
eeehm ... RUMBLING! COMING FOR YOU!
The song played in my head thru that scene-
In the third ending of the series there was a drawing of king fritz and his daughters eating Ymir. The details in this show are crazy.
Cant belive you are finally here, waited for sooo long
Nothing better then Dark Souls music for this show.
I love how they foreshadowed this chapter with Season 2 ending. Ymir story was there but we never realized it
Armin is so loyal to Eren and he thinks he knows Eren very well but the truth is Eren is no longer that childish Eren
That's probably crazy, but this is my favorite ep of AoT. I cry every time I watch Ymir's story.
I am not sure if you guys know, but there are talks that the anime will not cover all the chapters of the manga. Apparently, it will only adapt until chapter 131 or 133, and after that there will be a movie to finish it all. So, get ready to still not have all the answers that you are expecting 😅
Oh really? Well, a movie will be incredible too
So, it would almost be a chapter = an episode. It's not usually like that.
If that's true how long should we wait and how long is it going to be
I'm Japanese and I don't understand English very well, but I liked your reaction and subscribed to the channel.
I'm looking forward to posting in the future🥺
I've been waiting for the whole day 😆
i guess that ancient being thing is in every subject of ymir, the conscious part is inside the founder...explains why theyre all connected

Love your reaction as always! Only wish your discussions were a bit longer…
ksaver and kruger: it all started when our founder ymir came in contact with something (Hallucigenia)
Been waiting for this.
Amé este episodio como no se lo imaginan 🧎
breathe. breathe. don't mind me, i'm reminding myself i should breathe...
i think eren didn't involve mikasa and armin for the simple reason that he knew how grave his goal was going to be. he basically decided to carry the burden/guilt all by himself... i dunno but it also feels like he took on ymir's role so she can be finally free - he gave up his own freedom for all his loved ones' freedom. i may be wrong... i'm an anime-only audience.
Based on its form, the creature that gave Ymir
her powers is a hallucigenia, an actual creature
that existed millions of years ago and one of
the strangest species that has ever existed. It's
described as a bizarre and crazy worm that
looked like an allien. Current invertebrates
derive from this and the name refers to the
enormous increase in biodiversity that occurred
for it and how its appearance seemed like a
hallucination, Its appearance was so strange
that the paleothogues could not believe it was
real. It actually is an armored worm that lived in
shallow seabeds, like, literally a worm with legs
and spikes, and a relative in the evolutionary
tree of life (but well ofc, with some fantasy
elements since we're in a fantasy story).
Reminds of what Krueger said, that Ymir
obtained her power doing contact with the
origin of life and material.
I like this copypasta better than the other one lol
“I never wanted to be the king, I swear”. Eren has no interest in being the king.
Gotta rewatch season 1 episode 1 scene 1 after this !!
