Hi Dino. Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I watched it and my friend and I followed in your footsteps. We rode the rail trail from Clifford ON to Port Elgin, stayed the night and rode it back. It was your video that gave us the knowledge of the trail and that a couple of old guys could manage some off-road fun. We had a blast! Thank you!
Thank you for the comment, it is a nice trail network for sure and I am glad you liked the video. I know that the OFTR lobbied a lot to get access, it may be something that clubs in your area can work toward in the future. Dino
Those are great trails. We get on just South of Port Elgin. Lots of fun. Next time head towards Bruce Nuclear on the trail. Lots of fun single and double track off of the main trail. My son turns 16 soon so he will get my XT250 and I will be upgrading to a DR!
Regular 87 fuel is just about at $7 a gallon out this way. It is absolutely criminal, grotesque, and infuriating. On a lighter note, what a fantastic adventure you guys had! That’s the best kind of riding, just enjoying the scenery with nothing to prove! Cheers!
Those trails and gravel roads look so good - DR 650 country. Useful information in the video as usual. I was interested in the video shots. Maybe a video on the camera gear you use and some tips maybe useful for viewers?
Karl did get excited ! Is his surname Fogarty and is he a 4 times world superbike champion? Great video Dino. It's so nice to see where you live. So green compared to an Australian summer. Looking forward to your camping trips!
Thanks for the suggestion. I would have to upscale some of the footage as only my main camera and my insta360 shoot in 4k and often I use that data density to allow cropping in post. I will see what I can do. I am glad you enjoy the videos and thank you again for taking the time to comment. Dino
Overall he really likes it. Like anything it is not perfect but overall it strikes a good balance between wind protection and off trail clearance. We will be putting together a review on it soon. Thank you for the question. Dino
The previous owner did lower the bike using the DR's built in method to do it. pretty easy to do and he likes the bike a bit lower anyway so we never changed it back. Good eye on that one 😉. your the first to pick that up or at least comment on it. Thanks for the comment Dino
Great question, The stock wheels are tube type wheels. there are a few ways to convert these to tubeless using silicone and other methods but mine are still good old tubes. I'm not sure of a tubeless rim that others buy for direct replacements but I am sure the folks over at the DRrider forum would be able to answer this question. I would maybe try searching their data base for possible options. Thank you again for the question, I wish I could help more. Dino
@@DinosTinkerShed Thank you Dino for taking the time to answer that ! I will check out DRrider . Once you have tubeless tires you get spoiled and never want to go back lol . Btw I live not to far from Port Elgin and never knew about the rail trail . You mentioned a permit that you need to purchase to use the rail trail ....where can I buy one and can it be used for other trails in Ontario as well ? Thank you
Tubes can be a pain for sure, the permit is issued from the Ontario Federation of Trail riders oftr.ca/ and provides access to many trails throughout Ontario as well as access to their mapping system which shows location difficulty and other pertaining information. It is very much like the snowmobile trails, however they do not yet have as vast a trail network as the OFSC. I hope this help. Dino 😀👍
Hello Dino. I thought I had watched your "Welland Canal Parkway East Side Trail", but couldn't find it. The website mentioned off-road motorcycles. Are you allowed to take a DR650 on the above trail? Thank you
Hi and thank you for the question. I looked into riding this trail and at one time it was allowed. Information seems a bit hard to find but I believe you are no longer allowed to ride the trail due to liability issues. Again, I do not know for sure, this is just my interpretation. I now get a yearly OSTR membership which allows me to ride the Niagara Timberline trails which are located along the east side near Port Colborne. These are well maintained and the trails are marked out so they are easy to follow. They are however very muddy in the spring. Thanks again for the question Dino
The bridge in Paisley will be opened this year. The rail bed is maintained by Bruce County and the Huron shores atv club. The club does trail inspections every other week with volunteers. And all the washboard by Port has been fixed as well. I did a couple videos for the atv club on this trail. My wife and I love going for lunch in Paisley on the atvs. Great video, feel free to check my Channel out for our Huron shores atv club ride. Cheers.
Great question. It depends on how they are designated. Most in towns and cities do not allow motorized vehical at all, but many like this one allows both snowmachines in the winter (often at this time foot traffic is fordidden) and mixed use during 5he summer which includes properly plated, insured motorcycles provided they are members of the OFTR. thank you for a really good question. Dino
Oh man that sucks, I took a spill early in the season on a really rocky area, had it on camera but somehow lost it. Twisted my knee really bad. Took me a while to get the grove back but it did come. Dino
Fun video. I always get a buzz viewing videos of places I recognize.

Nice trip, I need to find some old guys to ride with. My riding buddies are all 20 years younger and love to "challenge themselves".
I hear you, your riding partners have to be on the same page or it's never as much fun for anyone.
Thanks for the comment

Great video. I wish the US would allow the old rail systems to be used as roads and trails too. Beautiful area

The Rail Trail is great. I’ve rode it many of times. Gets a little boring after awhile but it beats riding the slab any day
You are going too slow
Just trying to show the trail clearly. Plus I just like to put around LOL. Thanks for the comment

Aren’t rail trails not to have motorized vehicles?
