I'm not surprised. Iloilo is a place filled with engineers, civil engineers, carpenters, builders, landscapers and technicians. San Augustine college in Iloilo specializes in many of these courses. So it's not surprising to see Iloilo as well built and organized as it is. Great choice! ...And I'm not saying this because my mom's from there...well maybe :D

I think University of San Agustin had the most courses offered in Iloilo, idk.
But tbh, there are a lot of Universities to choose here in Iloilo city, that's already a big deal for such a small city. Imagine 8 universities?!! Iloilo is really a center for excellence. Not to mention that there are huge colleges and international schools too.

What I love about Iloilo is that you can literally walk late in the evening and even around 2-3 am without thinking twice of your safety, also the taxi drivers are quite relaxed and kind unlike in manila. People there are sweet and humbly social as well so yeah great choice for you guys!

@makingthemovebydarren9255 I believe there’s nowhere in this world nowadays that is so safe be it foreigner or women. If u think Iloilo philippines isn’t safe for you then how much more for a country like the USA where hate crime for Asians, massive shootings, and black killings are rampant?

I've been following Iloilo for some time now and I think it's one of those underrated cities. Urban planning, open spaces for the people, healthcare, and they are investing on green spaces rather than tall buildings. Their upcoming projects too are more on restoring heritage sites and Parks for their people. It's odd for a city aiming for urbanization but Idk I like it more than high rise buildings and it's working. Kudos to their leaders.

When you guys mentioned that a walking area is important, I know that Iloilo City will be the best location for you. It's like Manila with a lot less people.
You guys are going to become the brand ambassador of Iloilo City. Surprisingly, no foreign vloggers even thought of making Iloilo as their home base. So you have Iloilo City and the whole Panay Island as your playground.

you are not talking about the local vloggers of iloilo, right? they indeed will not become popular if they are just local vloggers. the viewers in manila or cebu will not know them. if they want to become popular, they have to get the attention of the manila viewers since manila obviously has the most viewers. they need to study what will catch the attention of the manila viewers.

Been eyeing Iloilo to build my second base as well aside from Manila, and eventually settle for good. You've done the research on my behalf and, I guess many of your viewers. I now think I made the right choice with buying a property there. It's supposed to be for investment, but might use it for myself. I've lived in Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, even northern Luzon in the past and now Manila. I think I'm definitely settling in Iloilo for good for the reasons you just said and more.

I know you have already a lot of comments received here in the comsec on how Iloilo is the best choice. These are my thoughts I want to share:
It may sound cheesy but Iloilo city basically has it all. Even it is a first class highly-urbanized city, you can feel the balance of life in here. The country side was just near in the city. While there are farmlands and mountains surrounds the province, coastlines are also present. You know what I mean, there's vegetables and there's fish HAHA.
You could go anywhere you want. Road networks are very accesible to every towns. I promise you, there's a lot of beautiful underrated places in the province that hasn't been discovered by many.
Talking about city-wise, you're not going to believe this but the most amazing part of Iloilo city is really the progress and how fast-growing it is as a city. It's rare for a Philippine city to do that. Let's just say, you've been here before and decided to visit here after a year, you will be surprised on how quick the improvement on everywhere.
You're not going to regret here, especially if your goal is to live like more local than a copypaste of your life there in Canada. I'm already imagining you two as an ordinary Ilonggo couple who lives a simple life as other Ilonggos do also in their daily lives. Trust me, it feels wonderful to be with the people, especially if its Ilonggos: the sweetest bunch of the Filipino people

Incredible transformation of Iloilo City over the past two decades. It was way better now compared to 1996 when we stayed in the city for 2 nights, then traveled to Kalibo by land ( exhausting), and booked for one night. Then enjoyed laidback Boracay for a few days. Great decision picking Iloilo City! Cheers

I have similar requirements as you guys have. I love to take long walks alone, not just 2-3km but ~15 km and walk on places I haven't walked before. I can't do that in Cebu, I can't even do that in many places in Europe. In Sweden (well in all countries in the Nordics) I can do it almost everywhere almost any time of the day or night. Except a few neighborhoods with high criminality.
I couldn't even do it the years I lived in 'fancy' Marbella. But at least there was the paceo at the beach where you could be 100% safe on hours you are suppose to be awake.
Ilo ilo sounds really nice and I'll check your video from your visit there. Sounds like you have found the right spot, congratulations!

You made a very wise choice!!! You initially based your requirements on infrastructure and safety and Iloilo City meet all your requirements. You have a very big bonus, the people of Iloilo, not only from the city but the whole province and the rest of Panay Island and Guimaras as well. The soft spoken, sing song language of Iloilo emanates from the innate kindness, politeness and courtesy of Ilonggos. And in Iloilo honesty is a way of life not simply a word learned in school. Live your full life in Iloilo, guys. And if you have children, Iloilo City is the place to raise them. Good luck!!!

After watching “tubers” from various locations and wanting to start with things that also “ticked” on my list , Iloilo “looks” like a good “toes in the Philippine water” experience and see where it goes. And pretty much for all the same reasons you stated. NYC by birth, living outside of Denver, Colorado for decades ,now looking for a “beach / city / rural mix…..” within another culture.

Good choice. Central Visayas is the future of the country. IloIlo is low population, clean and have proper city planning. Where as Metro Manila / Metro Cebu has made too much mistakes in the zoning department for decades. But as far as investing in property, I'd still put all my money on Cebu being the wisest choice. An ocean front city with a mountainous backdrop and a historical resort island in front of it is a rare gem. It's just gonna take a few more years to see it polished.

As of now Mayor rama is now working on Demolishing Squatters along river and those living along the road for clearing the roads and also in the interview He will do his best to provide a tenament condo for homeless and poor people in cebu that could not afford to buy a home or a house.
In Transportation THE BRT Will be implemented by next year and a Cable Car Project will also be his eyeing project target that will decongest and lessen Traffic in Cebu City. NEW ROADs also being build right now in Cebu City and a Coastal Road that will start next year in which budget is no more problem. After 5yrs monorail will be also implemented. Imagine Cebu Bohol Bridge will commence soon and a Feasibilty Study conducted by European Engineers is already started.

My wife and I did a high five when we heard your decision. Never thought that you would seriously consider our home city as one of your options. Yes, Iloilo City has it all but whenever you've got the itch to go visit a much bigger city, the airport is less than an hour away. So convenient. Hope you'll find your dream house soon.

Iloilo is a good city not yet crowded compare to cebu. Cebu make so many mistakes in urban planning but being corrected by present administration. Mayor Rama is now doing his best to make Cebu a Singapore Like by cleansing the city like Demolishing Squatters that lives along river and road that obstruct the pedestrian. Also he also providing TENAMENT project for the homeless people that hardly and coudnt afford to buy a home or house. Mayor Rama is working on Cebu Land Master the Best land Developer in the Visayas and Mindanao for tenament project for the homeless and poor people.
Infrastructure: More Roads is being build right now in order to lessen traffic. like Road of Bulacao to Capitol and Talamban and Lahug and soon a Coastal Road within Metro Cebu From SRP connect to Talisay City to Naga City.
Another road is Cebu Mega Expressway that already started but cut due to Funding that is why Manny Pangilinan the CEO the funder of CCLEX bridge Cebu City To Cordova is also eyeing Cebu Mega Expressway. Pangilinan also eyeing Cebu to Bohol.
Many of our Businessman is now eyeing metro cebu right now as big potential market for their business to grow.
Transportation: BRT system will start next year and a Cable Car is also eyeing project also by next year as Mayor Rama said in the interview.
After 5yrs Monorail also eye to be implemented.

Welcome to Iloilo. Though I want our city in the limelight coz we are proud of it, we still want it all to ourselves. I have Esplanade 9 behind our house but sad to say I never use it except admire our wonderful view. You will be surprised to discover there is a thriving European community in our city. I saw 1-2 vloggers in Iloilo so it's not too crowded for you yet. You choose the best month to be in Iloilo. December! That's when all the activities start until summer. So welcome and enjoy!
