This may have already been mentioned but initial PIDs all set to zero will make your motors only run one direction. Found this out the hard way. Great video though!
Have you considered now with more experience taking this project further. Changing the motor driver and instead control an esc type driver like those for robotics and RC car that use the servo lib with neutral at 1500us instead of pulsing the enable pin and two direction pins for each wheel. It seems like you could then use an RC radio to adjust the angle and the balance bot would attempt to level thereby moving the bot in one direction or the other and could turn the balance robot your code is very detailed and I think would adapt to an ESC or RC type motor controller. But it may need feedback, What do you think, I don't know.
