The phenomenon has been studied and is being studied nowadays. This event now has an international relevance.

The location of this festival is in Melpignano, in extreme South east of Italy ( the heel of Italy) . In this song the male singer sings in arab language .. the female singer (Alessandra Caiulo) sings in grico ( Ancient greek) a language of local population in this little area of Italy.
Grico is not ancient Greek. It is a linguistic minority in Southern Italy originated from Ancient Greek that also has lots for borrowings from the local Italic dialect of Salento.
