Ra ta ta Is an onomatopoeia. In Italy is used for representing the sound of guns when they shoot.

Mahmood said he was very impressed by the Brazilian movie 'City of God', that tells about children, young boys and young girls who live in the favelas in Rio de Janeiro abandoned by their parents, growing in the streets, full of violence and poverty.
"Mahmood's song 'RA TA TA' paints a vivid picture of life on the streets, capturing the raw and often harsh realities faced by those growing up in tough urban environments. The repetitive sounds of 'fa-fa-fa' and 'ra-ta-ta' mimic the rhythm of gunfire, setting a tense and urgent tone that underscores the song's themes of survival and resilience. The imagery of children with balaclavas and knives pointed to the sky highlights a world where innocence is lost early, and violence becomes a part of daily life.
The lyrics delve into the struggles of growing up without the traditional comforts and securities, such as a stable family or a safe home. Mahmood reflects on his own experiences, mentioning how a simple game with a daisy ('m'ama non m'ama') contrasts sharply with the reality of growing up on the streets ('crescendo per strada'). The mention of 'tre anni nella gang' (three years in the gang) and 'la faccia mulatta, bocca mitraglia' (mulatto face, machine gun mouth) suggests a life where identity and survival are intertwined with gang culture and street smarts.
Despite the bleakness, there's a sense of camaraderie and loyalty among those who share this life. Mahmood emphasizes the importance of trust and loyalty, vowing never to betray a friend ('Noi non fottiamo un amico'). This bond is crucial in a world where betrayal can be a matter of life and death. The song also touches on the longing for a better life, symbolized by dreams of wealth ('zaffiri su una collana') and the distant hope of family and stability. 'RA TA TA' is a powerful exploration of the complexities of street life, blending personal reflection with broader social commentary.

The lyrics of the song are very autobiographical but in the chorus this rata ta ta is the sound of the gunshots of a weapon and it talks about the child soldiers who unfortunately are without a mother in the city of God (understand as a nation)

Hi guys, thank u for reacting to this song. Despite the up tempo style (perfect to make a song a hit and what we call in Italy "Tormentone Estivo") is about some serious topic: the song shows the reality of people leaving in places in the town where a child has to grow really fast, among some not-so-childish things and has to learn really young how to act and behave in that context. The "ra ta ta" is linked (as you suggested) to the guns, to the sound they make and is used as a simile to indicate the fact that words are weapons. About the song Mahmood said that he was inspired by his life, the recent events in the world (in which children are involved) and a film called "City of God"(2002).
I hope you can understand more now :)
For another trending travel I suggest you another italian artist, she is called Elodie and she just released a new song called "Black Nirvana" I hope you'll consider my request, she is really amazing ❤
    Good evening and byeee✨️🩵

As others have already said "ra ta ta" is used as an onomatopoeia to represent the sound of guns shooting. The lyrics are partly inspired by the movie "City of God" and partly by current wars that are depriving children of their parents ("I see children with balaclavas without their moms"). He's denouncing all those situations (poverty, war, drugs) that force children to leave their childhood behind and become adults too soon, and he does it by putting in the same verse innocent activities and adult and violent behaviors (for example "oh what fun it was to play the game of the goose with the police, drinking peach juice outside of Mass under clouds of marijuana"). He also sings about the game "he loves me, he loves me not", that's why in the beginning of the video the kid can be seen giving the daisy to the other kid, before they are separated and the daisy falls to the ground. But then the adults help them reunite so that they can keep playing (in the final scene the kid gives the daisy back to other kid and they hug); this can only happen because the adults around them looked out for them making it possible for them to stay children a little longer. Also Mahmood is wearing a Palestinian brand all throughout the video and the colors of the palestinian flag are almost always present, either on his clothes or in the environment around him.
EDIT: since people are running their mouths and yt is limiting my comments, the brand is called TRASHYXCLOTHING and its goal is to celebrate ar4b culture despite the ongoing military occupation and to resist colonial attempts of erasure. Also Mahmood himself has stated that the song is inspired by City of God and by the current wars that are leaving children orphaned. Mahmood has always said that despite the difficulties due to his father's abandonment he lived a blessed childhood thanks to his mother, he had the privilege of studying piano and music theory, he had "the longest childhood ever, full of happy memories", he didn't live the troubled life you all seem to believe he had. Also the arabic on his shirt literally says P4L3STlN3, so. Hope that helps!

I've just listened to this song with my sister and I liked it. Loved the aesthetics, he is so handsome 😮 I've noticed a lot of inspiration of Italian singers on the Eurovision songs (Geolier literally took the basis of Luktelk/ Sylvester Belt in a song of his new album). You should also react to the new song of Elodie, Black Nirvana (she is a close friend of Mahmood and has a lot of fashion and aesthetics too).
