I tried the coffee orange juice a while back on tiktok and honestly had a similar reaction to you Barry lol. its so odd that it somehow works lol. I love the idea of the filo pastry desert but due to gut issues my gut would not be happy if i tried it and same with the pasta unfortunately but I love these videos and seeing your reaction to these odd dishes and drinks.
I've always made that sort of pasta with spinach. Just prefer it like that. And then I fry it with onions and garlic in a pan and melt some cheese over it. I can only recommend it! ❤
That filo custard thing looked amazing !! The idea popped into my head for a cheap vs steep video, sausage egg and homemade chips lol dunno if it would work lol
At first glance I thought that was Kunafa. There are a lot of variations on Baklawa in the middle east using different custards and cheeses, and they come in so many shapes.
You are the second person I have watched make a version of baklava. That is my favorite desert out of everything in the world. This must mean I have to make it myself. Me, a diabetic. Pray for me!! Lol!
@@dizzybunnies I'm diabetic. I shouldn't eat it at all, but it is so good... I used to eat one at work sometimes. I shouldn't have though. It is as bad as candy.
Ciao Barry! The spinach pasta looks like an easier version of spätzle, a german recipe we also have here in Italy! Nice quick and possibly vegan version of it. The original has eggs in it. Thanks for trying all this crazy tik tok stuff. Love it.
When I was at school in the 70's we used flour and water paste with newspaper to make papier mache art projects. I made a moonscape for my space action figures....
I think columns was a 'master system' game, rather than 'mega drive.' I know it came bundled with the hand-held 'game gear', but that's neither here nor there, some good looking cooking Mr Barry
Fantastic as always! I could imagine putting sultanas between the filo layers served with either evaporated milk or ice cream! 🙂 I might try the pasta rolled thin and sliced like tagliatelle and served with some chicken breast slices or something! Absolutely love your videos mate! Thank you!
The espresso and OJ is a winner. I tried it after seeing it on a FB reel and fell in love with it. It's a bit marmite but if you like it your gunna love it
This is only a suggestion and I have never made this, but as a seasonal twist to the gnocchi could it be made with pumpkin or other squashes, puréed and mixed with flour, maybe with some seasonal spice’s (nutmeg or cinnamon) formed into balls and sauced with molten butter with roasted and chopped pumpkin seeds poured over the top.
starch is defo a glue, because Ive done it :) My moms 83, originated in Czechoslovakia, and when I was a kid, I was making fabric wrapped picture frames...as kids do. Im sure I did one at school with glue, but at home mom would mix up flour and water for glue. And stuck like a charm. Takes a while, but when its dry, perfect. Edible (when wet, if youre inclined to stick stuff in your mouth), non-toxic and lasts forever. Also dirt cheap and almost always at hand.
Yay nearly first. Better I am 13th!!! I love these videos, because you have to taste pretty scary things. and you are open and honest. It's great and your enthusiasm is hard to resist.
The bitterness of the coffee is a byproduct of darker roasts, there is however a trend in recent years for very bright roasts. Those have almost no bitterness in it but in exchange have a lot acidity going on. One of these Roasts would probably work quite well with the OJ.
Initially, that filo crinkle thing looked like the contents of a book. As for the orange juice espresso, I reckon adding a slosh of vodka would make it perfect for yas.
I have Jamie Oliver made a version of this pasta during the pandemic..he made those a bean shapes. You can add yeast and make a pizza or bread from it! 😊
That pasta looks soooo easy! It must be healthy with all that spinach in there, as well. I think it was so bland because your pasta water should be salted to taste like the Ocean :)
The orange juice espresso drink has given me flash backs to being 18 and drinking Tia Maria and orange juice in the late 90s early 2000s. I thought it was a fancy cocktail. Oh to be young and dumb.
The drink is also known as a Mexican Sunrise. If it was prepared properly, it actually would look like a sunrise. The way you do this, smaller glass, ice and half filled with orange juice (the sun). Pull ONE double shot of espresso. Place a spoon upside down over top of the glass and pour the espresso on the spoon. This creates a dark layer over top of the juice (the night sky over the sun). The taste, when done right, should be that of Grapefruit. If it is too bitter, you did it wrong.
I'd love to see you try different vegetables to make the pasta with. How about beetroot? Massively underrated, we just eat it like any other boiled veg :)

Chocolate and orange works... So coffee should too. Maybe add cocoa too.
The dessert is essentially any middle eastern household recipe for a 'quick dessert' 😋❤️
That’s a lot of filo, isn’t it? 😮

Good tip: Pre grate your cheese and put in a bag in the freezer, Lasts forever, no need to defrost just sprinkle direct from the freezer.
The "self-custarding crinkle dessert" is actually called Bougatsa, except you generally just make it in 3 layers (phyllo, custard, phyllo).
I was going to say the same thing. Filo and custard baked desserts have been a thing for generations.

The coffee and OJ would have a very similar flavour profile as the cocktail Terry's chocolate orange which is Kahlua and OJ and is seriously lush
