Giant Fizzy Haribo Cola Bottle

  • After the 'fun' of making the giant Haribo fried egg, it was only fair that I gave the giant cola bottle a try.... this actually turned out way trickier than I thought with melting plastic, DIY sawing up of money bottles and a lot of cola bottle cutting, it was time to give this a try, laced in it's own homemade sour sanding! Hope you enjoy :)

    Part of me feels for the first time ever I may revisit this one with a new bottle and just pour it straight in submerged in a big old bucket of ice to stop the plastic melting, because it does... and fast! Let me know if you want to see a follow up.... anyhow, for more giant food head to this playlist th-cam.com/video/Twm9MY8s7YA/w-d-xo.html it also features the recent Giant Haribo fried egg th-cam.com/video/KMPeoNGvkus/w-d-xo.html where this idea came from :)

      Why not use a couple of 2x4s and make a box you can fill with corn starch then press the other half into the starch to make a giant negative corn starch mold like they use to make gummies or chocolates in small sizes

    I wonder if it would stick to the plastic mold if it was sprayed down like crazy with oil or possibly heavily dusted with icing sugar or corn starch like you would when you make homemade marshmallows? It could be easily solved by making a mold of the plastic mold with food grade silicon, but for something that large, it’d probably be wicked expensive.

    I feel like there might've been several easier ways to go about the project than the way you did it. For example:
    • use a crapload of folded aluminum foil and tape to create a sort of cookie-cutter ring in the shape of the giant bottle instead of mutilating the money bank;
    • seal off the cap / top end of the giant bottle, and cut off the base / bottom end to pour the molten gelatin / sugar in that way as a 3D mold;
    • make smaller gummies using two-liter Coke bottles that would have better depth and dimension, while also being more easily held and greater structure?

    Probably generally better not to have it in contact with the plastic at all. Better to use food grade silicon to model the outside of the big bottle, and then use that.
    The plastic bottle has a low melting point and if it mixes in with the food stuffs, that can be really unhealthy.

    There's a reason they don't use plastic when molding hot sugar - I'd be surprised if you didn't ingest some plastic while eating that, man... "a big old bucket of ice" wouldn't "stop the plastic melting", it would just cool it down a little quicker. Your best bet would be to get one of those adjustable silicone borders to make the outline of the bottle, since that's all you're going to end up with anyway, unless you have a mold manufactured for that purpose. Did you think you might actually end up with a whole bottle? By putting a hole at the neck of the bottle, as you were doing it, you wouldn't have been able to fill it higher than that level because of simple physics. Science, Barry - SCIENCE.

  • @markushavers2283

    Things can be complicated..... and things can be done easy..... To make it easy, you need to know how to do it.....
    And we clearly see You don´t know it.
    Just as an example : Did you ever heard of bee wax ? It is used as non stick agent..... what a clue.
    Next clue : This kind of sweets are made using a mold pressed into dryed out potato starch.

  • @kushiecanuck8080
    @kushiecanuck8080 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, get a big bin and use your mold to press an indent of itself into something like corn starch, remove the mold. Now pour your hot sugar goop into the corn starch WELLLLLLLL that you made of what shape you want and wait. Presto! gummy molding without melting plastic into it. Corn starch comes off like nothing.
    But I still love all your videos man!!! you are so funny and kind.

  • @Sereomontis
    @Sereomontis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    In spite of how it may sound based on what I'm about to say, I really did enjoy this video.
    But, you didn't want to pour the extremely hot molten cola gummies directly into the mould because you were worried they'd melt the plastic and fuse with it, which I imagine is correct, and was a good decision.
    But you then proceed to pour the steaming hot molten gummies onto the parchment paper the mould is resting on, where it immediately spreads out to the sides of the plastic mould anyway. Would it have had enough time to cool down sufficiently to prevent fusing to the plastic in the 2 seconds it took to spread to the edges? Maybe.
    Would it have been better to line the giant bottle-mould with parchment paper or some sort of food-safe plastic? Probably.
    Given the end product, which was basically just a flat, generic bottle shape anyway, would it have been easier to simply pour the mixture into a baking tray, or a basic rectangular DIY mould, wait for it to cool, then cut the gummy into a bottle shape? Most likely.
    Though as I said, in spite of the criticism, it's a good video. Quite fun.

    i really wonder why didnt u use a big bowl or something filled up with cornstarch and just push the form into it so it shapes the starch... then pour the gummy into that... i mean... that is the way they do it... I think you should try making KP's Choc Dip with breadsticks. I remember eating them in my childhood. Don't know if you ever had them

    I make meringues and add Lorann Candy oil flavoring an citric acid to mix, bake. They taste like Starburst. They are yummy, Ive only had compliments

    Question...why didn’t you just leave it as it was? Cut in half and pour in 💁

    Only surprised that Barry bought regular sized bottles. I bought some 'giant' ones a while back and haven't finished them yet. Mmmm

    You could have just propped the open molds up in a baking tray. You didn’t have to stick them down and make holes 🤦‍♀️( you could have oiled or powdered the mold) lol

    16:32 Barry I'm really sorry but your sped-up, pitch-raised noises of effort trying to get that thing out of the bundt pan reminded me of nothing so much as that video of a tortoise attempting to get busy with a shoe. I'm so sorry, but it did and I'm laughing helplessly

    I said it before but we need a giant matchmaker, I could literally eat a whole box (any flavour) in one sitting. Obviously the most common is mint but there is orange flavour, honey comb ones and the best ones salted caramel.

    But how is the clip of you talking to camera visible in the edit behind you WHEN you're recording it?? Blowing my mind.

    I don't really want to sound like a hater, the video is still lots entertaining but these giant gummy videos are way lamer than your earlier giant videos. There is something much more satisfying about watching something made from scratch, not just reheated and poured into the mold.

    You did the same thing when Dad gave me a taste of Marmite on a spoon. Candy, he said. He lied. I ran to brush my teeth and the old boy laughed.
    He got a taste for it when he was stationed with some English lads during WW2.

    You should make a giant mint matchmaker and dedicate it to me! I love mint matchmakers!

    generally gums are made in corn starch moulds (typically jelly babies hence the white powder on them), or they are made in silicone moulds that are sprayed with oil to prevent sticking.

    Hey Barry, if you are gonna pour gummy stuff into a metal mould, spray it with cooking spray and dust it with cornstarch, it'll come out much easier
