I ran across this by accident. I was looking for something to listen to while I worked. Instead, I sat transfixed for most of an hour to the most beautiful rendition of Vivaldi I have ever heard.
Amber Spring ..Spring In the 2nd movement, the main character is a shepherd who dreams lying on the grass and falling in siesta due to a romantic and refreshing feeling of spring. He in his dream proposes marriage to any girl naturally “Please merry me, if not I’ll be very sad”. Not this way, he begs her to do. She is a daughter of the rancher who he loves. In the 3rd movement, he awakes from his sleep and is very pleased... because the girl in his dream is who is he loves usually and he feels she is very beautiful so he proposes marriage to her. This is a desperate propose and the most important is not common but very vivid. Therefore, the shepherd determines God shows his mate. Summer In the 2nd movement, he prays eagerly to God that it will be cool since he’s knocked due to the heat and then he hears the thunder is coming from a distance. His ears pick up with surprise on hearing it!! Oh! it’ll rain!.... he loves to rain. In the 3rd movement, finally he is caught in the shower!!! He is crazy in the pouring rain because the heat is gone all of a sudden. Autumn In the 1st movement, the shepherd watching a flock of sheep on the grass throughout the summer is gladly visiting to her who he loves due to the dream in the spring in his free time. He thinks if he meets her and propose marriage to her, of course she would accept it and visits to her but he is just not pleased. I wonder I’m wrong? I’m afraid and worried. In the 2nd movement, he has being comforted and endured by thinking of her throughout the hot summer but she looks the other way directly on telling her. Therefore, he is comint back weakly. In this background, it’s to express his severe sorrow. Winter In the 2nd movement, a beautiful view of the field covered with white snow is expressed. My interpretation is correct....I hope the New York Times will publish my articles in these newspapers....Truly I am the only one who knows classical music that has been hidden in secrets for many years....I want to make classical music known to everyone as soon as TV commentary....From Dvorak's New World, his music is his heart that wishes his country Czech Republic to be independent from Austria ...Enjoying the prosperity and freedom of American society, the Czech Republic at the time of Dvorak was a tributary of Austria...So he had a heartache and wrote music letters to his country from the New World...In the third movement, fighting for independence has taken his mind
It's easy to take the Four Seasons for granted because it gets performed so often and we hear it many times. But it's a great piece of music and this Janine Jansen/Amsterdam Sinfonietta performance really brought out the great composition by Vivaldi. They didn't rush at all. It's an excellent performance, the scenes are brought vividly to life. Lovely to see the musicians get a standing ovation at the end.
Can not agree more with you! I was born in the People's Republic of China and my grandparents could never imagine that his grandson can click on the desktop and get access to the civilized world, watch and listen to masterpieces like this. Never ever. Thank God.

I love how each artist is experiencing the music in their own special way. The faces they make, the body language, it just shows the passion and love for the music.
I especially like in the second movement of Fall, I believe, where the harpsichord starts off the movement, and the violinists appear to be trying their best not to overpower the harpsichord. You'd never realize it if you were just listening, so yes seeing their body language and expressions can be eye-opening.
Well,... isn't it how everything in life should be done? Adulthood and maturity should be at the service and of our inner child, for is only because of him we WANT to live, and only because of maturity we CAN live.

How can you not like this. Amazing. Can you imagine what it takes to get a group to play this way and with such commitment, energy, and concentration? This is what music is all about. I bet they all hugged each other after the performance because you never forget something like this.
I am just back from a live performance at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Janine Jansen played Vivaldi's four seasons with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. The applause lasted 10 minutes. It was breathtaking and I felt emotianal and had goosebumps during most of the performance.
Their faces show how emotionally involved they are with the performance. The Four Seasons convey so much feeling and passion, it is like a kind of ritual to conjure the spirit of nature. Vivaldi was a beautiful soul.

How everyone on the stage is in unison with each other, and pause exactly at the same time is just magnificent. I turn this on for background music while I work, but most often I simply watch Janie and the other musicians in wornderment!!!!!
Yes! I often think I'll just turn some music on to hear it while I work, then find myself sitting totally captivated, just gazing at these amazing musicians as they perform this amazing music!
Her expression, phrasing and leadership of the ensemble are beyond brilliant!! It brings the piece to life in a way that most other performances do not.
I think this is my favorite performance/ recording of the Four Seasons. Janine is amazing and plays with such fire! I love the excitement she brings to this performance.

Vivaldi is fantastic! we realize that in his music, he contemplates, rejoices, then cries and somehow revolts. Absurdly fantastic the explosion of feelings that their music causes us. Congratulations to Janine and everyone involved was very good.
I love the first cello woman, so passionate! and her hair is perfect haha I have no words to express Janine playing, my God, I will never get tired to see and hear her, she’s playing with all of them not just being the soloist, she’s making music indeed. Marvellous!
Bravo Ms. Jensen, a very inspired performance indeed! I put on my headphones, so no other sound disturbed me, and fully enjoyed this piece. Vivaldi composed The Four Seasons almost three centuries ago (1723) and it is still part of the best music ever made. A hundred political ideologies will be born and will die, but classical music will still be in the pantheon of the best Western Civilization had to offer.

Beautiful composition, but terrible delivery. I think the soloist picked faster tempo than she, and the rest of the group can play. Either that or they cannot read the score. Also, some of the group members look mentally disturbed. Unsettling.

WOW I think the last piece has fallen into place in my personal "bucket list". I have seen and heard Vivaldi's masterpiece performed by so many orchestral arrangements and groups of musicians that it boggles the mind. I feel as I am keenly aware of every single note, every rest and every nuance in its intended delivery. This is one of THE best and PUREST performances of Vivaldi's Quattro Staggioni I have EVER heard!
Best "Seasons" I've ever heard. Not enough credit is given to the recording quality - which is a large part of the listening experience. And who knew Vivaldi could do rock and roll!? This ensemble is so fresh and alive!
I am not into classic music. I know basics i would say but i loved it. We are all familiar with 4 seasons but watching this was pure joy. Loved it. The feeling of the lady playing the violin was great

When I listen to classical music, my mind is transported to another place, my heart feels nostalgia as if I had lived this time before, that load of emotions is wonderful.
This IS the best videography I have seen!! Simply because the cameras were NOT focused on the fingering of the musicians, (who cares) but rather their facial expressions, especially their total "emotional involvement" with the music. That is an aspect of musical performance that grabs my attention, and pulls me with them, into their experience!!!

Furthermore according to the bible Lucifer was the angel of music, when he fell heaven became devoid of music. Music now belongs to us, it is what allows us to transcend beyond even your god and Vivaldi is among the masters who's music does just that.
Vivaldi studied to become a Priest. He wrote four seasons while he was a teacher at a girls school. He never said he sold his soul to the devil. That's Paganini's line.

The 1707 Strad is very rich and in keeping with this beautiful piece by Vivaldi. Janine has an incredible presence with this instrument. I absolutely adored the whole performance. There are many excellent supporting musicians in this 'Sinfonietta'.

Such incredible concentration and focus, technical perfection and pathos, leaves one in awe. To have been there to experience it firsthand is only dwarfed by the ability to sit in my living room and play it over and over.
Like its predecessors but unlike its cousin the viol, the violin has a fretless fingerboard. Its strings are hitched to tuning pegs and to a tailpiece passing over a bridge held in place by the pressure of the strings. The bridge transmits the strings’ vibrations to the violin belly, or soundboard, which is made of pine and amplifies the sound. Inside the instrument, beneath the treble foot of the bridge and wedged between the violin belly and back, which is made of maple, is the sound post, a thin stick of pine that transmits the string vibrations to the instrument’s back, contributing to the characteristic violin tone. The belly is supported from beneath by the bass bar, a narrow wood bar running lengthwise and tapering into the belly. It also contributes to the resonance of the instrument. The sidewalls, or ribs, are constructed of pine-lined maple.
Love they way they transfer the emotional musical notes back and for a shared artistic creation. Without the words the musicians share this complex and wonderful musical composition.
What a difference from the olden days, I can enjoy my breakfast sitting alone in my silent dining room, with this music accompanying me, watching the sun coming up and my garden gradually changing into fall , coffee has never tasted better!

Still looking: need something with the transparency and agility of a very historical baroque band, the tone of fine antique Cremonese instruments, with interpretation an admixture of the speech-like inflections of Podger with the glorious florid 'excesses' of Dmitry Sinkovsky.
I really enjoy watching Janine perform; the way she seems to be making playful gestures with the rest of the orchestra, making it look so easy and fun. Great performance!
Those playful gestures are very purposeful. Those looks, winks, nods are cues are for the players for when to come in, play a certain part. Janine Is conducting as well as being one of the greatest violinists of all time
I'm constantly impressed with the lead celloist. It's always there providing that deepness and support making the lead violinist truly shine. A role that needs all the subtlety and is often unrecognized, I feel.

All the musicians dressed in black and the violinists standing. I found it mesmerising to see this so familiar music being played live. All the bows whipping away simultaneously, Janine and her “wing-lady” violinist (I’m sure there’s a proper title?) facing one another exchanging glances as they blazed through the piece. Almost like rock guitarists. And at the end all bows raised triumphantly in the air. Fantastic!
What a glorious masterpiece by Vivaldi, brought to perfection by Janine Jansen, I am reduced to tears by the power and passion with which she shares her gift with us mere mortals! It's easy to take the Four Seasons for granted because it gets performed so often and we hear it many times. But it's a great piece of music and this Janine Jansen/Amsterdam Sinfonietta performance really brought out the great composition by Vivaldi. They didn't rush at all. It's an excellent performance, the scenes are brought vividly to life. Lovely to see the musicians get a standing ovation at the end.

I especially like in the second movement of Fall, I believe, where the harpsichord starts off the movement, and the violinists appear to be trying their best not to overpower the harpsichord. You'd never realize it if you were just listening, so yes seeing their body language and expressions can be eye-opening.

I am just back from a live performance at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Janine Jansen played Vivaldi's four seasons with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. The applause lasted 10 minutes. It was breathtaking and I felt emotianal and had goosebumps during most of the performance.
Their faces show how emotionally involved they are with the performance. The Four Seasons convey so much feeling and passion, it is like a kind of ritual to conjure the spirit of nature. Vivaldi was a beautiful soul.
That was the greatest ever performance of Vivaldi I have ever heard, bravo everybody involved.
Easily the best performance I’ve heard in half a century. I play it often and every time with a heap of gratitude.

How everyone on the stage is in unison with each other, and pause exactly at the same time is just magnificent. I turn this on for background music while I work, but most often I simply watch Janie and the other musicians in wornderment!!!!!
Yes! I often think I'll just turn some music on to hear it while I work, then find myself sitting totally captivated, just gazing at these amazing musicians as they perform this amazing music!
Her expression, phrasing and leadership of the ensemble are beyond brilliant!! It brings the piece to life in a way that most other performances do not.
I have seen SOOO many leads playing the Four Seasons but Janine is my favorite. Her expressions while she plays, you can tell she is feeling it!

I put on my headphones, so no other sound disturbed me, and fully enjoyed this piece. Vivaldi composed The Four Seasons almost three centuries ago (1723) and it is still part of the best music ever made. A hundred political ideologies will be born and will die, but classical music will still be in the pantheon of the best Western Civilization had to offer.

Composed around 1720, The Four Seasons is Vivaldi’s best-known work, and is among the most popular pieces in the Baroque music repertoire. The texture of each concerto is varied, each resembling its respective season. For example, “Winter” is peppered with silvery pizzicato notes from the high strings, calling to mind icy rain, whereas “Summer” evokes a thunderstorm in its final movement, which is why the movement is often called “Storm” (as noted in the list of derivative works).

WOW I think the last piece has fallen into place in my personal "bucket list". I have seen and heard Vivaldi's masterpiece performed by so many orchestral arrangements and groups of musicians that it boggles the mind. I feel as I am keenly aware of every single note, every rest and every nuance in its intended delivery. This is one of THE best and PUREST performances of Vivaldi's Quattro Staggioni I have EVER heard!

When I listen to classical music, my mind is transported to another place, my heart feels nostalgia as if I had lived this time before, that load of emotions is wonderful.
This IS the best videography I have seen!! Simply because the cameras were NOT focused on the fingering of the musicians, (who cares) but rather their facial expressions, especially their total "emotional involvement" with the music. That is an aspect of musical performance that grabs my attention, and pulls me with them, into their experience!!!

The 1707 Strad is very rich and in keeping with this beautiful piece by Vivaldi. Janine has an incredible presence with this instrument. I absolutely adored the whole performance. There are many excellent supporting musicians in this 'Sinfonietta'.

Such incredible concentration and focus, technical perfection and pathos, leaves one in awe. To have been there to experience it firsthand is only dwarfed by the ability to sit in my living room and play it over and over.
I listen to it frequently as a way of relieving my momentary stress. What a combo. A legendary composer and a fabulous violinist.
Like its predecessors but unlike its cousin the viol, the violin has a fretless fingerboard. Its strings are hitched to tuning pegs and to a tailpiece passing over a bridge held in place by the pressure of the strings. The bridge transmits the strings’ vibrations to the violin belly, or soundboard, which is made of pine and amplifies the sound. Inside the instrument, beneath the treble foot of the bridge and wedged between the violin belly and back, which is made of maple, is the sound post, a thin stick of pine that transmits the string vibrations to the instrument’s back, contributing to the characteristic violin tone. The belly is supported from beneath by the bass bar, a narrow wood bar running lengthwise and tapering into the belly. It also contributes to the resonance of the instrument. The sidewalls, or ribs, are constructed of pine-lined maple.

As someone who primarily only listens to Vivaldi performed on period instruments. Janine’s interpretation is my favorite modern violin performance.
Love they way they transfer the emotional musical notes back and for a shared artistic creation. Without the words the musicians share this complex and wonderful musical composition.
Listening to this is proof that the world isn't all bad. Magnificent.

I did heard the Simsim Simsim option but I agree with cornguy677. The other is more technically perfect but this one was a lot more emotional, and music is emotion.
well, emotion is in every piece what ever the version is. perfection is about taste. my view, this video is not the perfect one. thank you all for your opinions.
Still looking: need something with the transparency and agility of a very historical baroque band, the tone of fine antique Cremonese instruments, with interpretation an admixture of the speech-like inflections of Podger with the glorious florid 'excesses' of Dmitry Sinkovsky.

I really enjoy watching Janine perform; the way she seems to be making playful gestures with the rest of the orchestra, making it look so easy and fun. Great performance!
Those playful gestures are very purposeful. Those looks, winks, nods are cues are for the players for when to come in, play a certain part. Janine Is conducting as well as being one of the greatest violinists of all time

I'm constantly impressed with the lead celloist. It's always there providing that deepness and support making the lead violinist truly shine. A role that needs all the subtlety and is often unrecognized, I feel.

Habia escuchado a Vivaldi pero nunca el concierto completo de Four Seasons/Quattro Stagioni/ Las Cuatro Estaciones - magistralmente interpretada por Janine Jansen y esa orquesta de cuerda, simple y sencillamente fenomenal, magistral, fuera de este mundo, muchas gracias por compartir.
La mejor versión de este tema... no le falta nada... perdí la cuenta las veces que los he disfrutado... siempre con la misma emoción... y gratitud!!

All the musicians dressed in black and the violinists standing. I found it mesmerising to see this so familiar music being played live. All the bows whipping away simultaneously, Janine and her “wing-lady” violinist (I’m sure there’s a proper title?) facing one another exchanging glances as they blazed through the piece. Almost like rock guitarists. And at the end all bows raised triumphantly in the air. Fantastic!
The "wing-lady" violinist is Candida Thompson.
Love the winter bit. Marvellous music. Loved every second of it.

What a glorious masterpiece by Vivaldi, brought to perfection by Janine Jansen, I am reduced to tears by the power and passion with which she shares her gift with us mere mortals! Her supporting ensemble is incredible as well!
