    Gotta say that I really like this series. Normally the average person doesn’t understand or know what exactly is required of them (probably in a manual someplace, but manuals very rarely get read). But to hear and see these kind of requirements will hopefully open some eyes. With your background it’s good to have you spread the word. Y’all dun good!

    Good video. Keeping up with your maintenance and repairs on your vehicle helps to keep you safe, avoids citations, and increases the useful life of the vehicle.

    One I've witnessed is that older DOT officers are more forgiving. The younger officers are usually trying to make a name for them selves. Great video.

    Brad, i like your DOT sessions. Most of the rules i know because we had DOT farm vehicles. Todays coverage should be done in the walk around pretrip inspection binder. Every morning when we got up, we had to do this with out trucks. Todays session Is just a great reminder. Thanks for doing this. I know your Law Enforcement experience really helps us out. Thanks for doing this.

    You got a good show there But I want to explain one thing when I work for the highway departments used to drive junk and the DOT would never say nothing But I have my own truck and I keep it up to stuff But like I said for 28 and half years I work for the highway department and all their trucks most of them well it wasn't even legal to be on the road someone didn't even have plates on them And the DOT would never say nothing so what do you think that I'm not putting it down You're a smart man and everything you said was right So have a good day and we see again on another one

    It’s really something that people who go buy a fifth wheel camper or a big motor home and don’t need nothing . They to should have to go to some kind of driving test .😊

    I didn't know this until couple years back, but certain states can not do random inspections. Ohio is one of them. But if alot more people would do their pretrips we could avoid alot of the issues we have out here on the road.

      If it is over 26,000 pounds you would still need a non commercial class B license. Just no medical card and not subject to inspections.

    The campground I supply just ordered two Joe Cords on an EMERGENCY DELIVERY FEE. I had to do one in the dark tonight. and the other is going tomorrow morning. Long story short I’m charging them $700.00 total delivered and stacked. Two Joe Cords is about 84% of a full cord.

    Brad great job. I have my CDL’s and I have shared to a couple people your videos. They were impressed and didn’t realize a lot of the rules. You may of touched on it already but in that type 2 inspection if alcohol is suspected a CDL holder is set at a higher standard or level to that possible infraction. I could be wrong. Thank you sir.

  • @powerram92

    Can they technically put you out of service if your over weight or do they just give you a ticket?? And can any cop stop a commercial vehicle for random inspection or only a DOT certified cop can? Thanks for the videos I have learned a lot.

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In Maryland, being overweight is a fine... Unless you are more than 5,000 pounds over and then you are required to be off loaded to legal weight. In order to be stopped randomly, the officer must be certified to conduct inspections.

    Am I understanding correctly that logbook are not needed if operating within 100 miles of your homebase?

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that is correct.
      What is the short-haul exemption?
      If you are a short-haul driver or fleet, there are several short-haul exemptions, including time restrictions, as well as a distance-related exemption, which is the 150 air-mile exemption.
      What is the 150 air-mile exemption?
      This exemption applies to both CDL and non-CDL drivers with an operating radius of 150 air-miles.
      Drivers are required to:
      keep timecards
      return to the same work reporting location, and
      only drive in states not requiring a CDL for their vehicle.
      Note: Previously, the exemption included a 100 air-mile exemption as well and was changed in 2020 to 150 air-mile for both CDL and Non-CDL drivers.
      What was the 100 air-mile exemption?
      Before the rule change on September 29, 2020, the 100 air-mile exemption applied to CDL drivers and to qualify they needed to:
      remain operating within a 100 air-mile radius
      return to the same work reporting location
      go off duty within 12 hours, and
      keep time cards with start and end times and total hours worked daily

    Interesting question for you as an ex LEO Brad, under the 5th amendment of the US constitution once a driver invokes that right and notifies the officer, the The driver does not legally have to participant in the inspection on the grounds that participation may incriminate the driver. The officer can inspect the vehicle but cannot demand under threat of infringement or arrest that the driver participate in ‘his/her’ inspection/investigation. Ie; driver does not operate lights, opera, horn, or open hood etc.
    Are you able to clarify this please?

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace
      @FirewoodattheFurnace  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you refuse to comply with the inspection process then items that cannot be checked will be marked out of service. You will be shut down, massive CSA points applied to the companies safety rating and most likely increased insurance premiums.

    First off I love your page and how you don't hide your faith ex law enforcement all that. But ever since you started this DOT coverage iv been seeing on other pages that some ain't happy with you about it because you brought attention to something they been doing for years dot free that their cops and dot being letting slide or just really didn't know themselves.
    I personally like following the rules because I'm ex law enforcement and fire rescue but I figured I'd let a fellow brother know
