Nowadays it is hard to imagine that a conductor who was known as a pioneer of Mahler, Schönberg and the avant-garde was one of the first to record Bach cantatas. This is one of his finest.
The recording is available on CD by Archipel, but I think their transfer is a bit too flat in pitch. Obviously they set it to A = 440 Hz, but in Vienna a higher concert pitch was usual. According to my calibration, my speed is the correct one - the movements are a few seconds shorter than in the Archipel edition.
Wow, such beautiful oboe playing! I listen to the first aria again and again just for that.
I really like this cantata, especially this performance. I listen to it several times.
Un véritable bonheur de retrouver Hermann Scherchen, trop peu enregistré. Et quelles voix ! Des sopranos véritables, des basses viriles que l'on retrouvait chez Mozart... Magnifique. Merci à vous, VerlorneFeldwacht.
Absolutamente lindo!
Poell makes the very difficult and high bass aria sound so easy! Astonishing, because it's hellishly difficult for a real bass!
Mmm... TY
