Thanks for this! Rune Factory and Stardew Valley are the two games by which I measure this genre, so finding comparable games or unusual twists on it is always helpful. In particular, the Graveyard Keeper game had caught my eye when it went on sale, but I didn't buy it at the time because I wasn't sure what to expect. Maybe I will next go round.

I wouldn't play Graveyard Keeper for the longest time, even though it popped on everyone's list of SDV like games. I thought it seemed kind of creepy. :) Which it is, but not in the way I thought. I have enjoyed playing, but haven't finished it yet. I have all the DLCs, caught them on sale, but there are sooo many achievements to complete the game. Maybe one day I will finish it. I hope you have enjoyed the game too!
Stardew Valley is my favorite, clocking in over 1500 hours on the game. I also admire Eric Barone, first, for creating every piece of an awesome game by himself (music, pixel art, dialogue & programming) & secondly, for all he has given to the community for the low price of $14.99 and all the while staying humble & down to earth. Every developer should strive to be more like him. :) Big fan! I have played quite a few on your list, but none of them have kept me coming back as much as SDV, although My Time at Portia is a close second. I loved that it was more focused on building than farming and was different in that aspect. Sun Haven, Medieval Dynasty, Garden Paws, Story of Seasons, Graveyard Keeper and recently Dinkum have all captured my attention too, but not to the degree of SDV. It will forever be the one game that I will keep returning to. Thanks for the video!

@Brandy Marie Sadly Stardew valley fans only Play SV and never try anything else, I have try to recommend other games and I have gotten very awfuls response, first thing that they said when I recommended RF 4 was that looked like a cheap budget game made by some no name developer...it made me so mad T_T
Gosh 1500 hours! There can't be much left to see after that amount of time! Admire the commitment though and I agree phenomenal achievement from the one developer.

Great list! So well researched. I'd also recommend Dragon Quest Builders 2, it has quite a lot of farming in it (more than Portia I think), but def not a farming game as such. It's a fantastic game 😊
I loooove DQB2 but I feel like we barely do farming here and there so I decided to leave it out of this list 🤫

My favorite farm Sim is still the original, harvest moon 64. This game brings back alot of nostalgia for me too.

Stardew Valley is my top farming game, but I have really been into Dinkum lately. I also like Littlewood and Epic Chef is hilarious. I really want to get Sun Haven too someday.
You will enjoy Sun Haven a lot and it has come a looong way and fixed many of the issues it had upon release!

I absolutely LOVE Verdant Skies. It's such an underrated game and my only criticism of it is that I really wish the world was even larger or they had a sequel to let us dive into that world even more. One of my all-time favorites, for sure.
Maybe they can make that happen if a sequel is in the making and a bigger budget is at play! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Harvest Moon: Tree of tranquility . It was my first game on the Wii and I loved it so much. The story is simple, the characters are fun, the music was beautiful.
Trio of Towns is my favourite Harvest Moon, i loved playing it

My bf and I recently started playing Sun Haven! I was pretty hesitant because the digital/2D looking art style is typically not my type in any way shape or form, but i has quickly grown to be one of my favs! We are loving it! I find it a lil easier than Story of Seasons when it comes to the crafting part (you don't need 10 billion makers around your farm area to make everything lol)! I'm interested in the Chinese game you mentioned, the art style looks beautiful.
I believe Story of Seasons got rid of having all these makers in the latest update, so check it out! And YES! I used to not like the 2D arstyle, now I can't get enough. I need to go back to SunHaven I know so many new updates dropped so I can only imagine how awesome it is after the last time I checked (and it was already amazing back then)

I'm currently addicted to farm together on Switch. Making a huge farm from scratch over time with a rewarding progression system and seasonal events that run offline make it a hook!

Harvest Moon 64 was my original gaming addiction. For me, even now, nothing else quite touches what that game was.
I loved Harvest Moon and was happy to find SDV. For me, it hits all the same high notes and more that Harvest moon did.

Hey good video! There's a few games in here I will definitely try thanks to you comments. As someone who mainly plays these sort of games, I highly recommend Rune Factory 4 for something heavily story based ( I still need to finish the last 2 chapters, I only got into this one when it came out on PC). Graveyard Keeper is super fun and something different than 'you get to clean up grandpa's farm!'. My all time favorite, which I keep coming back to, is Stardew Valley. I'm nearing 1800 hours, and am not nearly done, thanks to the ridiculous amount of mods available. Also a shout out to the My Time Series, Portia was great, and Pathea Games is doing a stellar job with Sandrock so far.

I love chill farming games, but yeah, there are so many now it's hard to decide which ones I really want to dedicate my time too. Littlewood is definitely a favorite. One I do like is Gleaner Heights, but that one is a lot more...unsettling than most entries on this list. Deals with some truly upsetting subject material ^^;;

I came here from one of your Dreamlight Valley videos. Was looking for tips and tricks, as DV was my “I wanna play Stardew Valley without playing Stardew Valley” choice upon release. I quickly grew tired of it, but wanted another SDV-type game. This list was perfect.
My question for you is, what would you recommend for a couple to play together? We have all platforms and mainly play SDV, as that and Animal Crossing were the only cozy games we knew with multiplayer. But we want to try something else, and she does not enjoy AC.

I've been waiting for sun haven to release on the switch for so long 😭 I check to see what patch they're on once a month. I know they said that on the 1.0 patch they'll also release on switch, and I believe they're on .7 right now. So close!
In terms of my favorite farming game, harvest moon a wonderful life is probably the one I have the most love and nostalgia for. But there are far too many that I love to pick a favorite.
Yes! Once it fully releases, it will be on the Switch (at least the last time I checked, that was the promise). So fingers crossed, it's gonna crush Nintendo sales!

Oh, man. I preordered Pioneers of Olive Town and I was so excited only to have it be a buggy mess that studdered and crashed left and right. It was so frustrating because if you did too much in one day you’d lose all progress. They did some…patching…but the problems continued. It was a severe memory leak issue and they didn’t care lol.

I think I'd say My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock are my favorites. But I'm also a big fan of Medieval Dynasty, Sun Haven, and Dinkum from this list. And with Sun Haven - you said that there were 2 farms in it. I think you missed the big Nel'Vari update the end of last year. We now have a farm in all 3 areas.

World's Dawn is a short but sweet, cute and cozy farm sim. It's got the farming, the fishing, the festivals, and the romance of the traditional farming game with a cute arr style. It does lack some things like WASD controls, replay value (unless you want to romance every character), in depth character customization (you can pick gender, hairstyle, and whether your character likes men, women, or both romantically), and a few other things. Overall, however, it was a really cute game that is shorter than most farm sims (maybe 12 hours if you play as slowly as I do).Overall, I enjoyed it more than Littlewood and SoS FOMT, but not as much as Rf4, Rf5, SDV, or Mtas (so far).

My Time at Portia and Sandrock is my absolutely favorite farming type game, right up there with Stardew (even if it's more about workshop assembly). Thank you for shining the light on these fantastic games. These two games do well in extending the formula by actually having places where you can take your dates to (such as eating out or riding a hot air balloon). They also have voxel mining (destroy anything) and a combat component that I find deeper than Stardew.
I loooove the mining it's so fun and in Sandrock, I love how they borrowed many mechanics from Portia but made them better including the new levels in mining! And the dating aspect is so so fun!

My favorite farming game in Xbox One is Farming Simulator 22, in PSVita is Farming Simulator 16, in Switch is Farming Simulator Nintendo Switch Edition, and my favorite farming game in smartphone is The Farm Sassy Princess.👍
Never heard of Epic Chef, will have to try it out and I'm glad you mentioned Verdant Skies, I never see anyone talk about it. It's pretty good and easy to play, I'd like to see it on consoles one day to get a wider audience. :)

Slime rancher- you can plant the things you need and then suck them up in your vacpack to feed to your slimes :)

I've played soooo many of these games! Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, Littlewood, My Time at Portia, Yonder, Staxel, Stardew, a bit of Kynseed, Graveyard Keeper, a bit of Medieval Dyanasty (still have to go back to since full release!), and currently playing Rune Factory 5 after already enjoying 1, 2, and 4! And I never played SoS Trio of Towns, but I really loved Harvest Moon: A Tale of Two Towns! I also just tried Dinkum yesterday, and it was a blast! A lot of these games I want to replay sometime soon, like Kynseed when it fully releases, and I really want to try Garden Paws, Verdant Skies, Epic Chef, and My Time at Sandrock when it exits early access!

Overall favorite though.. I don't know if I can pick! I love them all for so many different reasons. If I had to pick though, I might have to pick Stardew. If anything, to thank it for popularizing the farming sim genre and inspiring many more games of the type!
Also, really looking forward to Roots of Pacha! I'm not too sure if you covered it, but I played the demo and I think it'll be a good one!
Omg can't wait for Roots of Pacha and Coral Island (if you saw it before). Excellent taste in games! I haven't finished any of these farming games tbh I always leave some content so I have a reason to go back (it's a problem that I wanna fix but not really hahahha).
My favorite right now is Disney Dreamlight Valley. So addictive, but I love it! It has the right balance of farming, fishing, foraging, mining, cooking and questing. And, you can do all of this with famous Disney characters. Also, I can play it on my Steam Deck.

If you like rune factory 3 then you would probably love the 4th game in the series! It's my favorite and I've played all of them!
@@TheEsperKing1 I've played all of them as well! The 3rd is still my favorite. I keep getting bored with #4 and need to get around to playing the remake enough to make it through the whole story. I think the randomness of triggering story in the original tricked me into thinking it was over before it actually was.
Oh interesting, I didn't know the story was random. Maybe I just got lucky on my playthrough?
@@TheEsperKing1 Yup, there were guides on how to trigger the third story arc, reset methods, what party members to have with you, etc... I never triggered it in the original and didn't know to look up how to do it since I thought the story had ended. I eventually got bored and moved on to the next game. I heard that was fixed in the special version that got ported recently so I need to get around to it there.

I tried playing Farming Simulator 2022, but in some ways I preferred 2019. Still playing Eco which includes farming, but as a game that has really grown in complexity. It would be tough for new players.
Is Farming Simulator any fun?
@@MissBubbles Hi, er, well.. not really.. It is procedural and you need to go through the cultivation, seeding, fertilizing, weeding and harvesting using the tractor tools. Sometimes you need to add lime. But, to be honest it could easily be branded a driving simulator. 2022 added seasonal calendars too for when you can plant which meant you don't really make any money from your own farm and you spend more time doing tasks for other farmers. I like the idea of farming simulator (and tried Farming Dynasty too), but it just doesn't feel like a fun game. I like your vids btw.

I played rune factory 4 first back when on the 3ds, I bought rune factory 5 but i honestly found it harder, i can't get past the initial talk to people in town, the town is huge. i get frustrated.
I haven't played it in ages but Harvest Moon a wonderful life is probably my favorite. I cannot wait for the remake thou I'm Not sure if it's possible for the remake to achieve the same vibe. I love modern harvest moon and j don't think I'll be disappointed but the original was laid back, simple, just vibes. Harvest moon is far from simple anymore haha.
I've never played it before so I cannot wait to try it. I can only imagine how many new amazing farming games we will have by next year

I did and find myself in a weird place with it. It was my most anticipated game. It does many things well, but I guess I had other expectations from it if that makes sense.

It's such a chill vibe to play and you can always pick it back up
Thing is what alot of these game lack is the choice to play real time and not to be racing a clock. Thats why Animal Crossing is the best. Although I hear Farm Folks will have a time option which is awesome.

Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns was my all time favorite game on the 3DS and i’m still hoping that they will bring it to switch :(

Rune factory 4 is peak Farming sim and Rune factory. The 3D designs can be "outdated" by some people but the game holds on, is charming, is as difficult as you want it to be and there is always something to do, improve or work, and has not 1, not 2 but 3 story arcs and is the only RF game to do that.
Gets bad rap because of the "Random Events" I mean, yeah is valid criticism but is a very small price to pay for such a solid and excellent experience.
I disagree with it being the "peak". RF5 is superior imo especially for ditching the annoying random events ☺️ so it boils down to what one tolerates in their gameplay

Does anyone know if Sunhaven will have local co op on switch? My wife and I loved playing through Stardew together and would probably love Sun Haven too
I have no idea. It has multiplayer on Steam but not sure about couch co-op as in having a split screen

My favorite farming game is Harvest Moon: Sky Tree Village. Mostly because I plaid Harvest Moon on the DS, but quickly forget them. But this game sucked me in. It reignited my love for farming sims. There is definetly better farming games, but this holds a special place

Based on how Epic Chef looks, it reminds me a lot of Seabeard mixed with Battle Chef Brigade and I love that.
I'm so happy you brought up Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles. When i got it I wasn't sure if I would like it but decided to give it a go, and it turned out being my favorite game on the Switch. There are a few that are tied with it but it is just such a precious game that can just draw you in 💕😊🥰
Of course I'm always excited to see a Story of Season or Rune Factory game get a mention as well. :3
Yonder is just the type of game that requires patience and the willingness for discovery. It is all about taking things at your own pace and I love that about it! 😍
Loved these games. I wish the ones I really want to play come to Switch soon. I really really want to play my time on Sandrock. I guess I have to wait a couple of years 🥹 until next time have a blessed weekend 💞
It should be available on full release but the problem is that these games are not being well optimized for switch. For example Portia was running horribly on Switch the last time I tried it. So I hope they are given some love if ported. Have a beautiful weekend, Page 💜

I didn't think it was that hard... as long as you don't simulate the farming...

You can others in your party harvest and process the rice, and your yield is lower. You can also collect items for your soil for specific boost and your equipment by killing specific creatures. The items you collect are labeled on the map as you select the stage you want to visit.

The graphics are very beautiful! Still needs a bit of work especially with the map and menu but I hope all will be fixed soon
@@MissBubbles Hehe, I’m easily satisfied with all little things in life and so is with games in general. So even if they **ck this game up, I’ll probably still like it(even with minor map and menu issues) because i have a soft spot for this genre :) Good luck with your content Miss Bubbles! Never went back to it. I updated on my Garden Paws video (pinned comment) the last update I checked and it was still struggling.
