- 07.01.2017 - Fishing on the James River from Cox/Indian Creek access to JRO (James River Outfitters) ~ 11 miles. Caught a bunch of bass. Lost count, but I'd say close to 20. All caught on weightless wacky rig.

I like footing from horse creek to McCord Bend which is where I live. Great fishing year around
Great fishing I see. I come up to Branson often and would like to know about the fishing. I have a kayak and have been wanting to fish the James river. Can you give some advice about the Galena area or Nixa? Put in and take out areas and if there are any shuttle services. Thanks much
The stretch of James River from hootentown to galena is part of missouri's special bass management program. I've floated it 3 times last year; each outing was very productive for smallmouth bass. I use shuttle services provided by JRO (James river Outfitters) to float from Cox access back down to JRO campgrounds (about 11 miles). Shuttle service is about $15, I believe.
Thank you very much for such a fast responce. This is something I will check out for sure. I think I saw on line that JRO had camping sites and even cabins, not sure will contact them. Again, thank you very much and tight lines
They do have campgrounds for RVs...
What bait did you use
+gina foster wacky rigged senkos all day...my friend uses Ned rigs and he catches a lot as well.
Do yourself a favor. Buy yourself a castnet, a dip net, a minnow bucket and some sort of bait bucket, maybe get a window screen or something like it if your dip net doesn’t work well and catch live bait right out of the river and use it. You can catch anything and everything you ever wanted to catch with a higher catch rate fishing with live or dead shiner minnows, shad, hellgramittes, crawdads, chubs, etc.
I know live bait isn’t handy if you are canoeing or can’t get your feet wet so keep yourself some small sized spinnerbaits (booyah baits, oversized rooster tails, buzz baits and swim baits and you will do fine.
Trust me, if you spend any kind of time at all fishing from the Hooten Town bridge to Galena, you will catch fish. You will also see some of the most beautiful country on this great planet. I love Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota, the gulf coast, the upper east coast, rural Michigan and Ohio, too many places in Tennessee, Kentucky and the Carolinas to count and I absolutely love Mexico and Canada, but that part of the Ozark Mountains is what pops in my head when I hear the words “God’s Country!”
For those of you who can’t get to the middle of nowhere, go to Dogwood Canyon. My friends at Bass Pro have paved a little over 3 miles of creek flowing in to Table Rock. That will be enough to see if you agree or disagree with me.
Have fun! Watch out for cottonmouths, copperheads, rattlers, soft shell turtles, drunken methed up hillbilly’s (My kin so I can say that) and really slick rocks and you will have the time of your life.
