Great video, as usual. For anyone battling the mold & mildew on a white fabric shower curtain I finally cracked the code on getting rid of it. Bleach in the wash only fades it a bit, but leaves the stains. I recently figured I had nothing to lose by spraying it with Lysol Mold & Mildew Blaster in the purple bottle. The stains nearly disappeared after letting it sit for about 20 minutes. I ran it through the washing machine with bleach & detergent added & it came out look brand new for the first time since, well, it WAS brand new!
It can't and it can cause a washer to explode if a pocket of water shifts during the spin cycle. Signed a former engineer in the appliance industry. th-cam.com/video/U8iPJnbwNjw/w-d-xo.html
I think that when YOU decide to become a cleaner person, it's way easier than when someone tries to make you a cleaner person. It's not weird at all, it's great!
I tried this method, used hot water and put the baking soda in the machine (not dispenser) and it worked really well. Didn't get it completely clean but sprayed Tilex Mold & Mildew on the spots there were still visible for 10 min before rinsing and it looks brand new! So worth it to try this. Thanks Melissa! Great video.
OMG! I've been doing this for 18 years! I bought a pricey textured clear shower curtain that as soon as it lost its sparkly transparancy, it went into the washing machine; I didn't want to throw it away and hand scrubbing got old fast. The only difference is that now I will add the baking soda, tea tree oil and an extra 2 towels! Thank you!!! Subscribed! (The 70's "funky" word is pronounced "fawn key" when it means super-yucky. :-) )
I'm not sure if you already have a video for this but I'd be interested in a video about how to clean and sanitize your cleaning supplies (microfiber cloths, sponges, floor steamer pads, brushes, etc). Another idea would be how to clean curtains and rugs safely. Loving the videos and I'm excited to see more! Thanks!
Microfiber cloths can be cleaned in the washer (but not with cotton items). Cellulose sponges that you may have in the kitchen can go in the dishwasher or clothes washer. The plastic "foam" sponges should soak in hot water, add a little bleach if you like. Hydrogen peroxide helps sanitize in the washer, especially for whites. Floor steamer pads can be washed in the washer but should be air dried. Odo Ban is great for sanitizing and deodorizing and is reasonably priced at stores like Home Depot (pre-mixed or concentrate).
Hi Melissa!! Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom on cleaning....your videos have been so helpful. I was once an unmotivated cleaner and still am somewhat but recently (last week...lol) started watching your videos and they give me motivation because you make it look so easy. I'm finding it easier to get motivated to clean and have been feeling more of a sense of accomplishment and not to mention I have more peace at home and for that I'm grateful!!! Keep up the great work and blessings to you!!!
My bride has her own home cleaning business and just had a client ask her to wash a shower curtain - it's not something that has ever come up before, they are cheap so we normally just throw them out and buy new ones. Thanks for the video - she's going to try this today with her client!
You are a lifesaver. I just moved out and I have no idea what to do. I hate cleaning and I’ve also never cleaned seriously before or been in charge of it. Thank you!!!
This little th-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
We do the same, we open both sides. However, that still creates a problem because when liners/curtains are folded (bunched together) that itself creates air from circulating around those items. So either open a window or exhaust fan for 40 min then close it all up. Combine that with a weekly / bi weekly ashing and things should look and smell better.
Great video. I have a shower with a tile wall wich is great. I live in the carribeans wich is extremely humid and my shower tiles get black from mildew, what shoul pd
Preventative measures: -Shower with your window open / turn on the exhaust fan -Shower with luke warm water / no steam showers -Use water only when you need it / prep wash and rinsing -after every shower, squeegee, (you can get a basic squeegee from Dollar Tree), the water from the shower walls and wipe residual off with a "rag towel" -smile
I know people who have a 2nd bath towel (small size) that is only for drying the walls and curtain. They use it after every shower after they have dried themself off while still in the shower. Then lastly they dry the walls, curtain, faucets (keep them shiney and bacteria clean), ...then they exit the shower drying one foot at a time as they step out.
Thanks! I would never think to put those things in the washing machine but I trust you... How about getting hair out of the drain when it's out of reach/disgusting....?
Hi, so I just wanted to tell you that my shower curtain, even with all the crap on them, came out 98% clean and white, so THANK YOU VERY MUCH♥ The last time I washed it even with the spray and following the directions, still didn't come out as good as your method did. I even washed it 3 more times and nothing compared to yours. Anyways, thank you very much and please stray healthy and safe :)
I've done this with an upright washer and as long as your curtain is not too cheap and you use the gentle cycle it works well. Never used the baking soda, I'll have to try that next time. I use about 6 kitchen towels, they distribute better in an upright washer, keeping it from becoming off balance. Thanks for the videos.
I searched for this vid after watching your recent video about tips for stinky laundry and am glad I did! The last time I washed my shower curtain it didn't get clean enough & adding baking soda to the load (and towels) should surely fix that. Thanks!
I appreciate your efforts make these videos and help out people in need of help on these issues. Thanks for making such a useful channel. I subscribed to your channel and will look for more useful videos from you!!,
OMG. You are wonderful. I live on a Greek island and I rent out studios - I absolutely HATE having to scrub shower curtains and mats on a regular basis. You have really really made my day with this one. Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos. Thanks again!!!!
Your totally awesome!!!!!! Followed your tip on shower curtain some time ago and it worked out fantastic!!! Then I started figure out how to clean my plastic table cloth!!!! Then I thought about you Melissa and your wonderful tip on how to clean your shower curtain and I followed your tip in washing and wow my plastic table cloth is NICE AND CLEAN!!!! Thanks again for all your wonderful tips.
I did an entire small box of baking soda (cup and a half), gentle cycle, and 3 towels and it worked like a charm. My formerly pink and orange shower curtain now looks like new. If I hadn't found this advice, I was going to throw it away.
This is great but my problem is soap scum on a clear plastic shower curtain. I've used tilex, vinegar, elbow grease and CLR. I've tried your trick with the baking soda and detergent in the washing machine and soaking in the tub. Nothing will get it off. Any tricks up your sleeve for this one? I don't mind buying a new one but hate to contribute to the pile of plastic already at the dump. Thanks very much!
Thanks for the video! I want to try this, but my shower mat has kind of a lot of mildew on the bottom! (embarrassing to admit...) I'm afraid that it might be too mildewy to wash with my towels because I don't want to ruin them. Do you think it will be ok to wash it with the towels?
With COVID, we haven’t hired a cleaning service in... too long. Our bathrooms are icky to the point that my mom would spot clean when she can’t stand a part anymore. Our shower mat has been pretty gross to the point where there was green vegetation in those bubbles 🤢 THANK YOU Ms. Maker for showing me how to clean in a simple and effective way! Our shower mat looks brand new and I didn’t even have to scrub it 🤩
What about for cloth shower curtains and fuzzy bathroom rugs? I washed both the other day and dried them in the dryer but once I hung them back up it seemed to have a funky smell to it
Thanx. I clean mine since I buy the thicker not so cheap vinyl curtains. Thicker ones do not tear or rip also. They last for year with daily use. I also dry the walls, curtain and faucet fixtures (clean, removes bacteria and leaves them shiney new looking) off with my towel after I am dry or I use a 2nd dedicated small towel to dry the shower off before I exit the shower.. This prolongs the clean curtain and actually cleaning the shower walls is not so frequent of an occurance due to the quick wipe down and everything looks like new after +10 years.
For mattress stains (presumably urine) I've had luck pouring vinegar on directly to neutralize the urine and then pouring on ammonia followed by cleaning the entire mattress with ammonia water in an upholstery machine. I match the volume of the original cause of the stain when pouring on the vinegar then ammonia which seams to help get the vinegar smell out presumably because the ammonia evaporates quicker. It is important to get the entire mattress wet as otherwise it creates a water ring.
So idk if im speaking for the many who live in an apartment with their borrowed top-loading washing machine with agitator in the middle. After figuring out that its best NOT to put it in the wash with an agitator (cuz it will rip) i got so upset that i would have to wash it by hand. So is there any way i can easily clean it??? and please tell me how to maintain it from ever having to wash it by hand again! even if it takes just doing a light scrub while in the shower.
I wanted to comment on here after trying this!!! I live in a student house - you can imagine how gross they get and ours was like proper mouldy halfway up the curtain... I did this and IT HAS COME OUT CRISP WHITE!!! I’m very impressed I didn’t think it would work tbh because there was so much mould and pink 😝
I know cat litter is used to soak up gas when theres a spill. I think it would absorb liquid soap too. I'd pour kitty litter on the soap and then sweep it the litter up. Kitty Litter is dusty so you can always mop, wipe, or use a swiffer on the garage floor afterwards.
Awesome video I have been doing it the hard way this whole time! I have one question how do I clean under the bath mat? Every time I pick up my mat there are stains under it even though I clean it often! Have any suggestions?! Thanks girl!
Ty for making cleaning fun and funny. Something that my ex wife doesn’t take the time to explain to me how to clean simple stuff like this. It goes a long ways!
Hi Melissa. Does this cleaning trick work on really old mold stains on my shower curtain? I've washed it previously but the pink-brown mold stains at the bottom is still there.
I live in a "ghetto" apartment. The washing machines may have mold/mildew at times. An old apartment 50 years plus could be a problem right? So what should I expect?? Should I ditch this laundry room and go to s local one instead? On the upside this video is very helpful.
Wow! Thanks for this great video....I had no idea I could wash a plastic shower curtain inside my washer...I've usually scrub it in the tub and rinse it while it's hanging...or simply buy a new one.....TFS!! ~Silvia
Great video, Melissa, thanks! Have a request for you: for showers with sliding glass doors (3 separate doors), how to keep the door tracks clean. Thanks so much!

Same😂
😅😂🤣👍
I never knew i plastic shower curtains could go in the washer!...i have been spending so much money replacing them.
Thank you. What a game changer!! 💗
i heard its best if your washing machine isnt a top-loader with an agitator in the middle. just my luck 😑

wow seven years ago hi

@@felicaesar I wonder what is more wasteful, buying a new one, or cleaning it. I clean mine, and I probably get twice as much use from them.
I've just followed your advice about removing mold from my bathmat and it worked brilliantly - thanks. I shall be sharing this all over the place!
Glad to hear!
Omg I've been throwing away my mats and curtains because I had no idea how to clean them. Thanks so much!

Since I don't have a shower mat, I used this method for my shower curtain today! It helped a lot. Thank You for the Video Clean My Space.
I did an entire small box of baking soda (cup and a half), gentle cycle, and 3 towels and it worked like a charm. My formerly pink and orange shower curtain now looks like new. If I hadn't found this advice, I was going to throw it away.
Thank you it is good idea but I want to ask about the temperature of the washer ?thanks
My shower curtains and tub mat came out perfectly clean...Thanks for making this video 😊

Could you substitute the towels for the fabric shower curtain as well? Possibly use 1 or 2 towels instead of 3?
Are you using towels which you also use in your body? Isn't it kinda gross? I might use old towels for this trick.
This is great! Any alternate for the tea tree oil?
Did u already do the vid on the different types of vinegar
you show washing the items in a front loading machine. is it safe to do the same for top loaders? i'm worried about the agitator ruining the curtain.
Thank you so much for this vid! You're awesome! I have a request, how do you clean your blinds and how often?
Any try this method in a top load washer? One that has an agitator?
Will washing soda work in place of baking soda? What's the difference? THX
How do you clean carpets, areas rugs and carpeted floor mats? Thanks!
Yes, I do it all the time :)
Thanks for the video! I want to try this, but my shower mat has kind of a lot of mildew on the bottom! (embarrassing to admit...) I'm afraid that it might be too mildewy to wash with my towels because I don't want to ruin them. Do you think it will be ok to wash it with the towels?
Would you wash with cold or hot water cycle?
So happy with this video! Washing my shower curtain and bath mats right now! :)

Do you recommend having carpets in the bathroom around the toilet etc.?
how do you clean mold on cellings in the bathroom
Awesome video I have been doing it the hard way this whole time! I have one question how do I clean under the bath mat? Every time I pick up my mat there are stains under it even though I clean it often! Have any suggestions?! Thanks girl!
What's your opinion of Mr Cleans sponges?
Ty for making cleaning fun and funny. Something that my ex wife doesn’t take the time to explain to me how to clean simple stuff like this. It goes a long ways!
Hi Melissa. Does this cleaning trick work on really old mold stains on my shower curtain? I've washed it previously but the pink-brown mold stains at the bottom is still there.
thank you so much. i am disabled and i have a hard time getting around and i need all the ideas i can get thanks
Can you suggest us a way to wash away mold from frabic shower curtains
Good you had separate towels to protect your plastic curtains😊😊.. Great idea
How do you clean mildew in the shower grouts and around the tub?
Would this work with an agitator washing machine ?

What if I only have pink, or brown towels. I do not have any white towels can I use them with cold water. Will that work?
Thanks for your video. What are you thoughts on using bleach or laundry detergent or denture tablets to clean shower curtains?
Wow! Thanks for this great video....I had no idea I could wash a plastic shower curtain inside my washer...I've usually scrub it in the tub and rinse it while it's hanging...or simply buy a new one.....TFS!!

Really dumb question bc I’m a noob college student, do I have to rewash the towels after or will they be clean too?
Did this 2 days ago, simply amazing! Never have to buy another lining again! Thanks girl!
If you have to pay for your wash, might as well buy new.
If we don't have that, can we use a drop or two of vinegar?
Would this process work in a high efficiency washing machine?
I have a memory foam bath mat, which is several years old. I am looking for a method to clean and sanitize! Any suggestions?
Recommended temperature?
What about a plastic rain cover for a stroller? Would the same rules apply?
Great video, Melissa, thanks!
Have a request for you: for showers with sliding glass doors (3 separate doors), how to keep the door tracks clean. Thanks so much!
Get rid of those sliding doors. Pain to keep clean. Replace with a shower curtain.
Are the towels necessary?
If you have a long bath mat, how do you hang it up to dry in the shower? A tub/shower combo does not give you many options for anything. Please advise.
Thank you, Melissa, for yet another awesome tip! I was using the washing machine, but not with the towels. I love your videos and they have helped me renew my love of cleaning. You are truly an inspiration...Thanks!
Hello Melissa... Great videos as usual. I wanna ask you: How you clean glass shower doors? Thank you from Barcelona!
What does the tea tree oil do?
I love your curtains!! Where did you get 'em???
Omg ... I just came across your Chanel and I love it !!!! They are very helpful !! Thank you !!!!
What temperature of water should I use?
How about getting the wrinkles out of the plastic liner after washing
Wow this definitely did a number to my curtain. I'd say it cleaned 90% of it. There is still a few little mold looking black spots. Some looked scrub able but some didn't budge. What can I do from here?
I just tried this today. It worked wonders!
