When I was young, dusting was my chore. I vowed I'd never have knickknacks and extra things in my home and i do not. Just watching Melissa remove the items from the mantle and shelves drove me nuts. Lol Great content and tips, as always!
My mother taught me the techniques you use. She was very picky. Explained to take everything off the surface, dust then dust each item and put them back. Work top to bottom.
Have you ever done a cleaning/dusting for a computer area? screens, keyboards, hard case shells, glass, printers? I would love to see a video on this! thanks for all your videos!
Love your videos. I am a houseproud busy 76 year old. Learned sooo much from you. I spend far less time cleaning since I found you 👏👏 but I am much more efficient. Bless you!
when i can get myself to dust, i take everything off the shelf, dust each item and put it onto a clean surface, dust the shelf, and put all items back but in reverse position. don't want to get bored! :) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING A VIDEO ON DUSTING
Clothing is way worse than microfibre cloths, most people are wearing clothes that are not cotton, linen etc in other words, plastics. There are way more clothes getting washed than microfibre cloths.
@ Re clothing : I think the issue is more the “manufacturing “ rather than the “laundering”. Even cotton takes tremendous amounts of water to produce cloth. There are efforts to educate the public regarding buying habits and discarding unwanted textiles. This isn’t a “contest” about which is the worst fabric; everything that’s manufactured /used/discarded has an impact on the planet. It’s up to us to buy, use, recycle responsibly. Microfiber sheds its particles- full stop. I own many of the cloths as well as clothes containing these fibers. I will use them until they fall apart but not replace them. I hope that there are better recycling programs down the road!!
A lady hired me to clean her house and she insisted that I vacuum first then dust. She also expected me to work wonders with her beat up vacuum. Lady I am not a miracle worker!
Of course, I fully agree with your microfiber cloth use. My question is I know what my mother used there were no microfiber cloth then what did your mother use?
Thank you for these tips! I absolutely can not stand to dust! I would rather do any other chores other than dusting. My hatred for dusting comes from my childhood because my mother had us clean and dust (with a then popular dusting wood oil- yuck!) and remove all the Knick knacks and wash them in the kitchen sink most every Saturday! So, I despise dusting now as an adult! Also if one has too many books on shelves or knick knacks to move around and replace it becomes tedious work!
Dusting is my most hated chore. My hatred stems from my childhood, as well. Unlike you, my mom had few knickknacks (she called them dust collectors), thank goodness, but I still hate(d) to dust. It's my first cleaning chore every week, just to make sure I do it and get it out of the way.
I use a Milwaukee backback shopvac around the house. I will never go back to the central vac that the house has or consumer/retail/household type vacuums ever again. It eats everything, enormous clumps of pet hair, leaves from houseplants, never clogs, never complains, no hairs to unwind from a roller. It's easy to empty outside the filters are easy to smack out to clean them or use compressed air or just buy a new one. Cords never get in the way. It's not cheap though of course but its performance is miles beyond anything they sell for household cleaning chores. This is a carpet free home so it's just used on hard surfaces . The last two cleaning services I used had their own commercial grade backpack vacuums and that's where I got the idea because dealing with cords or hoses is most of what the hassles were along with clogged up rollers.
I find your videos full of great tips and very helpful. However, as a person with some hearing difficulties, I do find that the music playing while you're talking makes it difficult to hear what's being said, as well as being distracting. Yours is the channel I turn to when I have any cleaning questions. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge and expertise.
I clean my vaccum as soon as the tank has dust or it will throw it back in tge room. It is better to keep dust down by sprinkling Arm & Hammer carpet fresh Island Mist! My rollers get clogged and I do it seasonally+
I have been meaning to do a deep clean of my vacuum. Honestly, the last time I cleaned it other than just dumping out the dirt was probably five years ago or so.
So funny that this is your most recent video. I was just coming to your channel planning to search for dusting videos. I recently moved into an apartment style condo and am surprised at the amount of dust. Perhaps I haven't been using the right kind of microfibre cloth for dusting.
Thanks Melissa! Which brands of vacuum do you recommend? We have a Dyson and I love how well it works, but it often needs to be repaired (I’ve heard this is a common issue with Dyson). Should I stick with our Dyson or switch to something else? Thank you!😊
TBH, I don't remember the date. I do remember emptying it and changing the filters. I have popcorn ceilings. I really wish you'd talked about dusting those.
Question; I have a light fixture in my house that has ridiculous, frosted lamps. Frosted in a way like it's covered in large grain salt, but it's glass? Plastic? Idk, but I haven't figured out how to clean it. I kinda wish I could put it in the sink, but I don't want to ruin it😭 Any thoughts? It's so stupid, but we have other things to tackle before spending on this, but it's like having crystals for a sink😭😭😭 So stupid! TY for any ideas❤️✌️
@julielong9440 I'll try that 👍 I had tried something (toothbrush I think?) but it was too harsh & I gave up.... One of those "looks good on paper" designs😂 Thank you!
If I were you, I'd bring a vacuum bought specially for work. You can expense it and all parts / maintenance. At least you know what you have to work with.
Content good. Customer support not quite. Ordered over 80 dollars but it hasn't arrived. 3 emails to customer support and only one automatic reply saying we'll get back to you. That was 4 days ago. Very disappointing
I’m so sorry that you’re having issues - that's not okay! We're on it! I can connect with the customer service team directly and get to you right away, Becky. Sorry! Melissa
Hi Becky-following up here. I am told your products were delivered yesterday, Jan 18 @ 4pm. Pls email support@makersclean.com if they were not received?
The problem with microfiber cloth you NEVER 👎🏾 MENTION IS THEY’re horrible for the environment as they don’t breakdown in landfills which are a huge problem now on earth. Are you just too young to understand /appreciate that?????!!!🤷

When I keep looking at you’re cleaning videos, it gives me more of the motivation I need to do my house! Thankyou for all the videos. X😊❤
Why the background music? Unnecessary and irritating. But I like your content. Thanks.
No way you hate cleaning. You are too good at it.

I’m so glad you found the video helpful! Your dusting technique sounds really effective-thanks for sharing your process with us!
Microfiber cloths also have a negative impact on the environment. When they are laundered, bits come off and wind up in the water supply/oceans.

They do make a bamboo microfiber cloth. I have some. They also don't get weird when washed with non synthetic items.
A lady hired me to clean her house and she insisted that I vacuum first then dust. She also expected me to work wonders with her beat up vacuum. Lady I am not a miracle worker!
Thats why i stopped cleaning for people. They think you can somehow deep clean an oven and top to bottom the house in 90 minutes.
Hahaha yesss so many unrealistic expectations!
Usually I clean my stick vacuum once or twice a week and clean filters once a month. But since I bought robot vacuum, I clean it every two days ❤
Dusting like a PRO in 2025. Glad to see you are keeping us up to date on dusting technology. Physics have really changed the past few years.
Music is very distracting but I definitely appreciate the tips!
Funny how I went to the channel outta curiosity and saw this. Very useful
Thank you for the video!

Cotton cloth and Endust. Lemon Pledge on woodwork.
Hubby cleaned the vacuum filter today (before we watched the video!) and we cleaned the roller a month ago

Can you make a video about how to find a cleaning service for your home?
Just google it

Informative video. Thank you so much.

You need true hepa filter vacuum.
Also, have you ever done a video on cleaning a shiny ebony grand piano? that would be great!
What kind of vacuum cleaner do you use for dust and what name brand do you use?
Love the music from 1:00. Reminds me of thriller. What song is it?

Should the microfibre be lightly damp or dry?
Dry first to remove all dust, damp after that if you need to remove dirt.
Thankyou for your2025 presentation.
1:07 simple but so vise 😮
I have a vacuum/mop that has a self cleaning feature, but my dyson I have no idea when it was last cleaned
Thanks Melissa! Which brands of vacuum do you recommend? We have a Dyson and I love how well it works, but it often needs to be repaired (I’ve heard this is a common issue with Dyson). Should I stick with our Dyson or switch to something else? Thank you!😊
My canister is definitely in need of some TLC (may go do that now) but I just combed out all the hair wrapped around the brush last week.
TBH, I don't remember the date. I do remember emptying it and changing the filters.
I have popcorn ceilings. I really wish you'd talked about dusting those.
I take my vacuums into the shop to have them cleaned, tuned and any upgrades done every six months.
Cleaned vac last month.
That moment when you already know all of these tips

Could you use a medium to soft paint brush and lightly brush over it?

Oh the guilt about cleaning your vacuum cleaner... I promise I will clean it tomorrow!
I did clean the filter today though
❤❤❤

I watch all your videos but couldn’t finish this one. The music was too distracting.
Sometimes it is just not worth it, as soon as you open the windows for ventilation, the dust collects again!
The are right, music is not needed , don’t do it 😅
Can not stand the music!
She likes it so now what?
Then don't watch.
