To be funny when interacting normally with people is one thing, but to come up with new jokes and stories year after year after year.
1:20 I don't know, I feel like Rogan "learned" how to be funny. He's not funny in real life at all, like other people such as Theo Von or Bert Kreischer. Joe is smart and learned how to craft a great standup routine rather than being a funny person.
Well I see what you’re saying but that’s really just your preference. I find Joe annoying sometimes but listening to his podcast he almost always cracks me up. We have similar taste as to what’s funny. Bert on the other hand though I like him - seems like a very nice guy - has never made me laugh lol.

Joe is ironically the epitome of his own proclamation. *You can’t learn to be funny.* He approaches it with this technical/disciplined/analytical lens, as if it’s a martial art, while managing to not even be remotely funny.

It's w eird hearing Joe Rogan speak about comedy because while I respect him as a podcaster/host, I can still be objective enough to admit he's not funny at all. Like not even remotely. He's on par with Brendan Schaub in terms of not being funny.

he's sometimes witty on his podcast but generally not the funniest guy in the room.
but he's not that bad. he knows how to write a joke and filter for the laughs in his routine.

I did my first open mic last night. I thought I did "decent". Then another person went up and did their first open mic and they did amazing for their first time. That made me feel like complete shit. I'm still licking my figurative wounds lol But I think its good if I had any ego that it got stomped on my first night. That was probably my first lessons in comedy and I didn't have to wait to learn it. lol
I did my first open mic (comedy, I'm a musician by trade) last night and I sucked. I speak in front of people and have performed in front of a lot of people, and I was horrible. But watching this encouraged me. I just need to be funny. I really overthought it. And I wasn't as prepared as I should have been. Go out next time and kill it!
Don't worry man, I had a great first open mic and then the following 5 sucked ass lol. Its all about enduring failure and little successes sprinkled without until you become a decent comic. And then you will still eat shit every once in a while after that.
some of the audience might be or family members, so the first time doesn't matter. you dont get a NELFLIX special on that basis

It is an exaggeration to say that Joe is not funny lol. C'mon.
Joe is funny, he is just not THAT funny. You can't use people like Andrew Shulz, Bill Burr, Chappelle, Bernie Mac etc. as your baseline for funny.
Fluffy is funny, even Seinfeld is funny. Heck random guys that come on the laugh factory are funny. Joe is funny, he is just not as funny as his level of fame...which makes sense, because his level of fame transcends comedy. I would give Joe a C+ for his comedy. Someone like Hans Kim I would give a B-. (though he needs more material) Tim Dillon I would give a B. Andrew I would give an A-. Someone like Chappelle is an A+. Katt Williams is an A.
