the amount of detail in this is fucking amazing; like when Ranger punches the knight in the helmet he recoils his hand back and shakes his fist afterward, that's such a fucking cool detail
I love how he’s on the same level as the doom slayer but at the same time much more human feeing. It seems more like he’s a highly trained marine rather than a natural born killing machine
I was just thinking that! It would have been easy to animate Ranger as invulnerable and unstoppable, but instead he's visibly feeling pain, getting knocked around and running out of breath. He's still an unstoppable badass, sure, but on the level of a "normal" video game hero and not a borderline joke character like the Doomslayer.
Both Ranger and Doom Guy are Marines. The only difference is Ranger fought against Lovecraftian creatures while struggling with his sanity. Doom Slayer on the other hand, have iron will to endure the forces of hell for years.
@@redrevanantarcdemon441 While yes both are marines Doom Guy was also forged with a unending rage and super human strength, Ranger is simply a marine with lots of experience.
The reason I tell people why I wish Quake 2 was its own thing instead of "borrowing" the name from the original is because we will never see Quake 1 lovecraftian horrors beyond our comprehension being absolutely obliterated in full quality and definition we have in todays games. Just imagine what a "Quake Eternal" would look like..
I mean, Champions still had Q1 vibes and the lore today is unified so we'll see both and whoever likes more Q1 will have that, but whoever liked more simplistic but brutal body horror approach can have Q2 style content too!
As much as I adore Quake II and it’s soundtrack (especially because my Chad father let me play it as my first video game ever when I was 4 years old, lmfaooo), Quake’s original Lovecraftian aesthetic cannot be beaten. I will admit, I regularly listen to Quake II’s soundtrack more independently of playing the game in comparison to the first, but NIN’s ambient and at times terrifying soundtrack added so much to the vibes of the game. It really couldn’t be beaten. That said, I do ultimately prefer the combat and gameplay of the second, but that’s more than likely massive bias on my end.
If Microsoft doesn't kill id (which is kind of being going on, /w lots of folk behind 2016 and Eternal having left), we just might see that. My money is on DOOM Eternal being prequel to Quake 1 or remake. Eternal leaves the world in a state with humanity in possession of Slipgates to other dimensions. As in, basically the setup for Quake 1. As for Quake 2, in the anniversary talks in QuakeCon, id folks on their stage conversations emphasized that Quake 2 was never supposed to be 'Quake'. It's just that they didn't settle for the name fast enough to get the new trademarks in order... so they just called it 'Quake 2' instead.
@@massburgers1337 People have this pathological obsession with lighting striking twice even the all the clouds aren't the same anymore. I'd rather have Quake remain an ancient work of art and an unspoiled relic than another IP for cashgrabbing execs to milk.

Quake was one of the first games I have ever played. Yes, it scared the hell out of me, but I still have the best gaming memories from this series. Great animation! 👍
a good thing about quake 1 animations is that you dont have to have nearly as many frames because it’s more accurate to the game to have more jolty movement
this is amazing, the fluid camera motion and use of the monster models gives this so much personality. it looks just how quake feels to play, great work ♥
This is fucking crazy. I feel like you're really translating the feeling of quake combat extremely well here. It's not as frantic as doom, it feels more like a showdown.
That was some top notch animation. Also the Quake theme fit really well for the brief moment it played. The Ranger has a BFG division of his own, stock.
He spun that knight dude's torso around while refusing to let go of the knight's head in order to break his neck. That was the single most _brutal_ execution move I've ever borne witness to. In a fraction of a second, The Door From E1M2 completely outclassed _Doom_, _Warhammer 40,000_ and _The Shadow Of Mordor_ series's own examples. Chainsaw kills are all well and good, but the sheer contempt you have to have for a foe to do an inverted neck snap where the _torso_ is what spins too far is nothing short of _awesome._
Doom was done so much justice with 2016 and eternal. Lets get a quake 1 reboot following along that path with ranger being as fast and brutal as the doom slayer going through slip gates fighting medieval nightmares and cosmic horrors. You want it. I want it. We all want it.
es bellisimo...dios mios, pense que usarias animacion 3d con modelos 3d como el quake pero supero todas mis espectativas, eres grande, realmente me senti emocionado al vesr una nueva animacion tuya
I like how you portrayed the Ranger here. Compared to a roided-up Doomguy, he's a soldier stuck on the frontline of an eldritch god, fighting as hard as he possibly can to survive.
This rocks. I thought it was strange, at first, to not use the existing Quake Guy player model, but I ended up liking it. It lets you flex your illustration skills and sets him apart from the enemies he fights. For those who hadn't played Quake before, they might have thought he was just another enemy type if you had just used his existing model. Unlike Doom Guy, his helmet does not cover his face, and his grotesque expression could potentially make him look like just another enemy.
Please do some Hexen or Heretic next! I'd love either. Mom's favorite character to play as was the Mage from Hexen, but out of the games she liked Heretic the best.
Absolutely steller work as always! I love how these animations sell the brutality of both the classic doom games and, in this case, quake. Also, very nice choreography and creative use of the weapons. Anyways, keep up the good work!

The use of the surfacing from water sound to make him out of breath was brilliant and really elevated this.
The monsters and environments all being 3D while Ranger is 2D really sells that he's in a world he doesn't belong in
The fact that the monsters actually move at a frame rate like this in the game makes this feel that much more authentic. Great stuff as always.
In the original especially.
Having Ranger be as brutal as Doomguy feels satisfying.
When you're fighting monsters you need to be way worse than them, and i totally dig it!
