@@unavela I don't think any of them would sacrifice their right handman for a demonstration. That would jeopardize their operations for a "trivial" reason.
Right at the end. Either she’s as obsessed with her theme as any classical bad guy or she’s doing the thousand cranes thing with money to pay for treatment for a dear one or something. Intriguing.
@@Virtualblueart I want to believe it's the latter. Seeing the creativity on display throughout the short, the cranes definitely would be something with intent, and the shot itself seemed designed to give her more character than just "origami themed killing machine". Her services are so expensive that multiple villians have to pool in to pay for them, and yet she's staying in a run down little apartment? And the focus of the shot are the many cranes folded with the money? The only logical explanation is that the money goes towards something outside of herself, and treatment for someone she cares about seems the most likely choice. It was ABSOLUTELY intended to hint at her humanity and a tragic back story, and is one of many reasons why I love this short
It’s still up, I have comments from the first one I just scrolled back in my notifications. I wish they’d just make a revised version instead of uploading the same video.
Given what little we know about Encyclopath, I honestly wouldn't consider cloning outside of his wheelhouse. Coming up with "New definitions" for words. But the originals are safe. So YA KNOW IT'S FIIIINNNEEEEE!
@@NEEDbacon A clone is a separate person without the same skills though, unless you can somehow transfer his mind (and that brain looks pretty destroyed here).
I miss Blot's vague charade joke in the original when he responds to "do you _have_ a piano?" But the new response where his hand just disappears is equally golden lmao
I love the detail of Origami's facial expression showing her being genuinely shocked that the last of the Factotums almost matches her skill pound for pound, falling short only due to her superhuman abilities giving her an innate advantage. An example of this is when he gets up and hits her with his hat. You can see she’s looking at him like “Holy shit dude, you _survived_ that?!”.
I think he really only lost because he spat his eye onto the floor, causing him to trip on it later. he 100% could've kept going if he didn't get grappled
Coming back to this gem at the end of the year. I feel like in comic book terms: * Encyclopath is a golden age villain, classic 1940s mobster with a colorful gimmick type. Dick Tracyish. * Miss Conduct, The Blot and Lady L are SIlver Age. High-concept wackier scientific abominations with overt superpowers. * The Verdict is bronze age. Darker (but not too dark) villain with the sort of anti-authority theme that fits the comics code cracking and the greater social awareness of the bronze age. * Origami and Avi are Dark Age, the ultra-violent, gritty new breed in town.
@@l1ghtd3m0n3 Could be. I pictured Avi as more of a Carmine Falcone sort of the Dark Age where we had more "boilerplate" kingpin types as opposed to the comic book tradition of outlandish mobsters. But I could see that as well, Avi as the newest breed.
One thing I love about this set up is we never actually see the Red Eclipse himself. The entire premise is just the rouges gallery complaining about getting beat by him and hiring a new, instantly skilled villian to take him out. It builds up a lot of mystery about him and makes us wonder if or how Oragami’s abilities could counter his.
Well, with the comments of Verdict, if you'd notice, it says: "37 counts of breaking and entering, 149 counts of aggravated assault, 15 counts of torture." Why the first two are quite normal for a hero, the final one though, that one could be exaggerated, or we have an anti-hero or worse, a Homelander.
It's definitely a super unique way of doing things, I think I've heard of the odd story where it starts from a villain's perspective but one where for the entire runtime we never even see a glimpse of them?!
Let us all pay respect to one of the greatest henchmen that has ever graced the henchmen industry. A true loyal soldier who has fought bravely and was able to surprise origami herself.
Can't fathom how this hasn't gotten more attention. Easily accessible runtime, *beautifully* animated, fun characters, good voice acting, clever jokes, just wonderful.
Creator had to reupload I think a few times cause of the number that got written on origami's arm was getting calls from everybody and had to be changed.
No not really. You can trace a lot of similar villains to most rogues gallery. Hell these ones shown here seem like Batman’s rogue gallery and maybe some others like flash or green arrow.
@@zzodysseuszz i just said that Red Eclipse has a better rogue's gallery than most heroes, not that there are some unique concepts. Origami is a very skilled female assassin coming from the East and with a very flexible body, she seems some sort of amalgamation between Shiva from Batman's rogues gallery and Ragdoll from Jay Garrick (the original Flash)'s rogues gallery but it's how this amalgamation has been done and how the origami gimmick was implemented that make her interesting
I love the subtle characterization afforded to every character in such a short time frame. -Encyclopath's cards being neatly sorted in ascending order (and then swiftly shuffled in descending order) -Miss Conduct's nervous fidgeting that goes away after the Origami fight -Verdict listing Red Eclipse's offenses like he's building a legal case -Blot holding his cards in a messy pile and trying to cheat in a trivial game (honestly, everything Blot does) -Lady L gracefully switching the light bulb and readjusting her chair -Aviv's momentary pause before putting the cigarette in his mouth to free up his arms in order to lift the box, maybe a little uncertain in his decision to order a priceless assassin via freight -Origami squinting at Miss Conduct when she realizes that she's coming on to her
I genuinely adore Blot. From the simple hand gag to the funny lil expressions when Origami is cutting herself out of the box, he is, and pardon the pun, oozing with charm. I wanna see more of all of them, but I'd be lying if I said that I didnt want to see more of Blot the most.

Or the half a second smile at Miss Conduct when he's mocking Encyclopath's choice of words. As someone who isn't very good socially that one small keyframe hit home. Sheer appreciation of a person laughing at your joke.
Did you notice how he was able to change his seven of Spades into the eight of Clubs? This indicates that he has control over any ink he comes into contact with.
@@scarfguy5337 if he was smart, he could use this ability to gain control over bank accounts, businesses, property and law enforcement. Anything that requires documentation to verify.
@@insaneink5696 I, myself was reminded of MTV's Oddities, though, the series was short lived, and only had two miniseries in it. The Head, and The Maxx. In tone/feel, more than specific art style.
it definitely didn't occur to me that most of them actually put up a good fight considering most of them would've hit their shots or land a hit if Origami wasn't moving all around the place like a flexible spider Makes you wonder what they'll be like when they're up against something they can actually hit
i like to imagine encyclopath didnt even mean for them to fight origami. that or encyclopath just mixes up common phrases. "the shipping isnt cheap" sure as hell sounds like a threat
1:36 I did the math and on average, The Red Eclipse could be facing at least 15 life sentences and, after only a minute of research, *4,095 YEARS IN JAIL!* And that’s only counting the things said by Verdict!
And Lady L afterwards mentioned “she’s down a forth of her men by last Sunday” does she mean arrested or.. murdered. Cause if so, that would be a additional 2nd or 1st degree murder charges depending on the context
The real reason this needed to get re-uploaded is that Miss Conduct was annoyed that people kept calling her, and none of them were Origami. Poor gal kept hoping she could set up a date but instead it was some complete rando every time.
Analysis of the gathered villains: Encyclopath- A polymath along the lines of Bookworm or Riddler with a propensity for elaborate, multi-layered crimes, often at the behest of others given his mention of benefactors. Probably the slowest to actually anger, but quick to become irritated and has a somewhat unwarranted level of response to such based on his glare at Blot for a playful teasing. Lady L- A light based villain given not only her appearance, but the mention of a giant mirror and sunlight. Not nearly as advanced in her theme as say... Doctor Light, though. Possible she can generate light bulbs as needed under her shade. Her general appearance reminds me of Chairface Chippendale, an enemy of The Tick. Verdict- Most likely an actual judge at one point in his life, but got a little extreme in his methods or saw too many criminals walk. His greatest weakness would probably be the very laws he once upheld if used properly against him as the situation warrants. Could possibly be a current judge with enough experience to stay just disconnected enough from his crimes to avoid capture. Miss Conduct- An elemental villain, but going by her appearance, she's more like Freeze than Electro or Livewire. She's wearing safety goggles, which tells me experiment gone wrong. And those spheres are no doubt essential to keeping her new existence stable. Her powers, based on how the bulb blew at her anger, may mostly be electromagnetic in nature, which could further explain the need for the stability orbs. Blot- Similar to Clayface, but apparently with at least partial psionic control over any sort of ink given how he altered one of the cards he was holding. Based on the faces he adopted and the innocent prodding of Miss Conduct's form, most likely sports an almost childlike mentality. The suggestion of dropping a piano on Red Eclipse, like what a cartoon character would do, lends further to this. This makes him probably the most dangerous overall as children can be unpredictable. Origami- Suit reduces weight and makes wearer as flexible as Ragdoll. Advanced martial arts and acrobatics training. Pieces of the suit can even detach and made into weapons as seen when she made a pistol using a portion of her suit and the bullet she'd just been shot with. Assuming that last part since the pistol was made from material over her bullet wound. The suit probably reduces mass/weight given how easily Jacobi lifted her box, unless he possesses above average strength, which is not outside the realm of possibility. Aviv Jacobi- Standard organized crime lord like Carmine Falcone or Wilson Fisk. This would grant him vast resources and connections. He clearly doesn't care for Blot being present, suggesting he finds it somewhat... lacking. He even knew its revenge idea most likely thanks to past meetings. Extremely patient given his tired/irritated reactions concerning Blot and Miss Conduct. Might even be their main fencer when it comes to stolen property and has many legitimate holdings. Rather like Cobblepot these days. The warehouse setting probably belongs to him.
Good breakdown! However, the boss who called the meeting is called Aviv Jacobi (6:11), a very Hebrew name which may imply affiliation with the Jewish Mafia. Interestingly, his last name, in addition to being derived from the Biblical patriarch Jacob, also means 'to supplant' or 'to circumvent', reflecting his leadership role and scheming nature. And, perhaps, his ulterior motives...
@@serperiorandtheanimator9216It just makes sense. From what we see, Blot's mind isn't quite at the level of the others for whatever reason. He was making a house of cards when Jacobi began talking, after all. Keeping that in mind and the faces he showed, I would wager his wrath is akin to the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. Powerful, destructive, inescapable. He could probably kill all his fellow villains with surprising ease should they anger him. Though I suspect that is usually quite the feat. And sometimes he has a hair trigger. Unpredictable.
In five minutes, you made me fall in love with all 7 characters. The gimmick for Origami is fucking amazing, I love the gimmick of the Blot too... everyone has so much character, and I wanna see more of them. I also love the fact we never actually see the Red Eclipse when the whole cartoon is named after him, idk, I kinda found it funny. But yeah, I'm invested.
This pilot really suits for an Adult Swim material. The gallery rogues of Red Eclipse looks like they came straight out of _The Tick_ and the animation feels like a love letter to Genndy Tartakovsky's fast paced action with Origami's fight scene. I'm a bit bummed that the original got taken down, but the reason is pretty understandable.
@Sebastien Gendron could you upload the original with a side by side comparison with this one? They said that they made the animation smoother in some scenes
I love that Miss Conduct looks complicated yet so eye-catchingly animated to draw. Origami is amazing for an assassin relying on contortion and paper folding in creating weapons, how her sharp yet alien design is reminiscent of KH's Nobodies and Inque from Batman Beyond and how she just begrudgingly accepts Conduct's number. I have to say it's pretty cold and probably convenient for Encyclopath to sacrifice his goons just so that origami would secure the payment for herself.
A breakdown of Encyclopath's vocabulary: 0:51 Forbearance: Tolerance, patience, self-control 2:02 ''This treachery has spread to my nearest backers and supporters. Meekness...' 2:18 Vapulate: To flog, beat, whip something 3:12 Factotum: Handyman, helper, servant 3:17 Cockalorum: A prideful, boastful person

Something fun I noticed about the Factotums: a few of them have words on the bands of their hats. Absolutely fucking adore these little details, man. Keep this up! For those who wanna see these small details, see below! Though there's a lot of writing. Be warned. These words all seem to relate to the character themselves in some way. A motif of these words being something that describes a trait or behaviour. A majority of these words have negative connotations. Before we kick off this definition-fest, here's one to start us: *Factotum - "An employee who does all kinds of work".* 3:17 - "Cockalorum" - "A boastful and self-important person". Seems to refer to how the guy's in the front and centre stage. 3:21 - "Corpulent" - "(of a person) fat". This one you can barely spot, and you can't make out the 'C', but I thought it was a fun catch. Pretty straight forward; the guy's pretty hefty. 3:28 - "Vacant" - "Having or showing no intelligence or interest". Given how this guy seems to underestimate the best Assassin they could find, maybe he's not too bright. 3:30 - "Fatuous" - "Silly and pointless". The guy's internal organs play more of a role in this than he does. He strikes me as pretty silly or pointless, hah! 3:32 - "Craven" - "Contemptibly lacking in courage; cowardly". Seems to refers to the guy's expression, and how of all the Factotums, he's the only one who doesn't die, on account he's out after being hit in the nose. 3:33 - I can't make this one out fully, but I can spot the letters "cre". This guy also appears at 4:18, and despite my best efforts, I can't make out what the word says on his hat. I could just be retarded, and likely am, but I think the word is "Decrepit" - "Worn out or ruined because of age or neglect" or "Elderly and infirm". Given the guy's moustache, it may refer to him being older than the other Factotums. Another fun little detail is that when he dies at 4:24, you can see his hat come off, and the guy is balding on-top! 3:38 - "Edacious" - "Relating to or given to eating". (I could be wrong on this one, too. Another word it could be is "Audacious", meaning "Showing a willingness to take surprisingly bold risks" or "Showing an impudent lack of respect".) May refer to how he was trying to get close to Origami to take a shot? Given how little time it takes for the paper plane to travel, he likely got pretty close without firing a shot. Therefore, not respecting Origami's ability. 3:52 - "Frownzy" - "Smelling strongly of body odour". (Fun fact, apparently this word is a Jamaican term!) Not sure about this one - maybe the guy just doesn't have good personal hygiene! 4:00 - "Termagant" - "A harsh-tempered or overbearing woman". Given how we see this Factotum really get all up in Origami's face, I think calling her "overbearing" is very fitting for the character. 4:10 - "Trepidant" - "Trembling or fearful". (I could be wrong on this one, too, as you can make out the letters 'Trepe', but not the rest. Given the guy's body language, I think "trepid" or "Trepidant" may work well. The word apparently is used in British English rarely). If I am correct, then look at his body language. He's holding the gun close, looking around, his body language uptight. I'm don't wanna sound like I'm from "JCS Criminal Psychology", but it's pretty obvious this guy's fuckin' scared. 4:12 - "Quisby" - "A wretch; an idle person". (Another fun fact, this is apparently a slang word that's fallen out of fashion, and was used roughly from the 18th to 19th century!) Two things about this guy. Firstly, he's the only Factotum in that scene to look visibly surprised when Origami runs up the pillar. Secondly, of all the Factotums in the scene at 4:18, he's the one who does the least fighting and is the first to die. Hence: an idle person. 4:13 - "Sialoquent" - "(Of speech) Spraying Saliva". Once again, another poke at a negative trait of this character, even if we never see it. 4:31 - "Maven" - "An expert or connoisseur". I don't think I need to explain this one, other than saying he's very deserving of this, given how his fight scene with Origami lasts the longest. Though, I think it still speaks volumes given how the longest 1v1 that happens in this whole onslaught of Factotums is a whopping 14 seconds. (And, even then, if we're splitting hairs, he technically only lasts 10 seconds, given how by the time Origami grabs him, the fight is basically over.) **BONUS ROUND:** 2:18 - "Vapulate" - "To flog or whip; beat or strike." Another slang word that has since fallen out of fashion. Can also be said as "Vapulated", "Vapulates" or "Vapulating". 0:50 - "Forbearance" - "Patient self-control; restraint and tolerance", as also clarified by Verdict: "Patience". 2:00 - "Perfidiousness" - Oddly, this one's definition states: "Definitions of perfidiousness. betrayal of a trust. synonyms: perfidy, treachery. types: insidiousness. the quality of being designed to entrap". Given how specific Encyclopath's wording is, I wonder what lead him to use this particular word. All throughout this short film, it's implied the Red Eclipse isn't a strictly a good guy. 2:02 - "Propagated (Past-tense)" - "Spread and promote (an idea, theory, etc.) widely". 2:03 - "Benefactors (Plural)" - "A person (Or persons in this case, due to it being plural) who give(s) money or other help to a person or cause". 2:04 - "Auxiliaries" (Plural)- "A group of volunteers giving supplementary support to an organization or institution". Also refers to the singular of "auxiliary", defined as: "providing supplementary or additional help and support". 2:05 - "T I M O R O U S N E S S" - "Easily frightened; fearful". And, finally: "Encyclopath" - not a real word, but a play on the words Encyclopaedia and Psychopath. Both of which wonderfully seem to fit his personality, based on his vocabulary and the few emotions he does displays, respectively. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to touch some grass. 04/07/2023 (Or by US Dates: 07/04/2023) EDIT: Cleaned up some of the grammar, true to the Villain, but lost the heart in the process. Damnit. Just glad that Insane Inkorporated noticed my comment! It was great to go through some of these words!

Not sure if anyone notices the small frames during Origami's fight with the surprisingly elite thug, but shes genuinely suprised by that guy's skill. Even if its for only a few frames
A little detail I noticed. In the after credits scene Orig-Yami is shown with a huge number of origami cranes in their apartment. This is likely a reference to the one thousand origami cranes Japanese legend. In this legend in which if an individual or organisation successfully makes a thousand cranes in a year, they are granted a wish. This would imply that Orig-Yami is unhappy with their current situation and wishes for something different.
It also highlights the contrast of someone who apparently is very skilled in a carreer that calls for big paychecks, yet lives in a barebones appartment, and apparently makes origami art out of her cash rather then spend it. It really plays up the mystery of her motives, especially since she is still wearing her full outfit even when all alone.
I actually thought it might be the opposite. When Orig-Yami is shot, you can see human skin under their paper body. Maybe they successfully built the 1000 cranes, and wished for the powers they have today?
you know i maybe imagining things but when i first saw Verdict i couldn't help but think "whats so intimidating about a stooped backed old man"? then i rewatched the video and realized he actually has very thick arms as well as a large body mass overall then it hit me he is probably one of those secretly super muscle-bound old men and uses the robes to hid how big/strong he his. Like i could totally see him cracking his back straight and adding like 2 feet to his height before using a over-sized gavel as a mallet.
In the part where the final henchman shoves his hat on origami’s face and punches her, there is a split second frame where origami’s mask is knocked off. It is a pretty cool detail. I only noticed it in slow motion.
2:23 The only difference from the original that I’ve noticed is when the Blot is asked if he has a piano in the original he looked embarrassed and did a scissor motion with his hand. Now his hand just fades into darkness. I don’t know why, maybe there more I didn’t notice.
According to Insane's Patreon, they had to reupload the vid because people were actually calling the number Miss Conduct wrote on Origami's arm. Some people are saying they made the animation smoother in some scenes as well (can't confirm, since the original was taken down. Maybe someone can do a side-by-side comparison!) Either way, this is an absolute treat and well worth the rewatch! 👍
The characters in this were so excellent and evocative, I was really blown away by the artistry of the animation and the really subtle world-building. This was an incredible piece of art, thank you for your contribution to such a wonderful genre.
Miss Conduct looks so complicated to animate that you must have designed her like that just to show off. I'm excited to see more of this story. I wish adult animation today was more often like this, and less often like sausage party and big mouth.
They must all be around the same power level, or at least very confident of their own skills considering none seemed fearful of the others. Judging how relaxed they are around each other suggests they aren't in competition either. Perhaps they have very clear areas of control or work different types of crimes? Super villains normally aren't the kind of people you put together in a room and have good things happen. For that matter, Jacobi's status as leader is questionable; he doesn't command them considering he was surprised they all showed up (Blot might not have been invited) and none of them seemed afraid or intimidated by him. All of which, to me, suggests The Red Eclipse is more of a Flash kind of super hero than Batman, albeit more violent and less moral given what Verdict accuses them of doing. Also shows why their minions put up a reasonable fight against a skilled assassin. Just going up against a speedster and surviving would filter out a lot off chaff.
It’s like how Riddler and Penguin can hang around and measure up to Poison Ivy and Clayface, even though the later have significantly more raw power than the former.
according to japanese myth, someone with the patience to fold 1000 paper cranes in one year will receive good luck and even have a wish come true. perhaps oragami does this with the money to give herself luck on future jobs? or her wish is on someone else's behalf, like a loved one with an illness?
@@ttterg6152 It's sad that often times, shorts as good as this stays as one-shots. One one part, i understand some of the reasons why, on the other part i'm sad we won't have anything more than this.
1:43 Given how the judge is going on like that, it could be that the Red Eclipse isn't a hero, but is rather a criminal who has gotten so bad that other criminals are trying to think of a way to stop them. (Think the Legion of Doom deciding The Joker has to go, and he has to go yesterday). It could be that while they have their criminal activities, they work in such a way that the relevant law enforcement only gives them so much trouble, but the Red Eclipse has changed the playing field that it's causing trouble even for other villains, so they're getting together to restore evil. Sure, they're bad people, but they're not evil.
I personally think it's just a Batman like hero because it's not like Batman wasn't beating up criminals interrogating them for information and breaking up into warehouses
Its probably their way of seeing things, obviously a judge would go into more technical ways of describing someone’s actions, but it isn’t that far of what Batman is doing It’s pretty cool to think of Red Eclipse because they could be anything from a Hellboy type of detective or a Punisher type of characyer
Its pretty obvious he's framing it as if the Red Eclipse is the criminal by purposefully twisting legal lingo. His character comes across as being delusional, as he still presents himself as a Judge - and therefore an agent of "law and order" - despite clearly being a criminal.
An animated series would be quite the tall order, but I hope at least a comic is made. All the villains are brimming with character and the whole sequence feels like a slice of a bigger story.
From the bottom of my heart I hope you are working on something big and you’re getting paid well. You are just amazing and I think about this video all the time.

Had to watch this back at low playback speed. The amount of detail you sneak into brief moments of the fight scene is excellent. You gave Origami a lot more personality than most people would ever notice.
i get the feeling (due to the ADD and "imagine how many men she's really lost" bits) that Miss Conduct and Lady L have a bit of a history. it would make sense, a teslacoil and a lightbulb being in a relationship. plus their little quips about each other suggest they know each other better than the others in the room. clever little bit of storytelling there, if intended!
Don’t forget that Miss Conduct scribbling her name on Origami clearly shows that she is in some way into women; so the idea isn’t completely out of left field
It's very much implied that most, if not all of them had interacted before. The way Miss Conduct and Blot mock Encyclopath's verbose vernacular implies that they've heard it before and were already sick of it.
Im so glad its back. I noticed somethings where a bit different, some of the pauses in between dialogue where shorter, oragami not shown getting shot, more camera movement specifically when the red eclipse gets mentioned instead of a simple zoom the camera goes to each villain while zooming in, blots response when asked if he has a piano was simpler, and while oragami was spinning on the final hencmen there was torn cloths and blood. Still I still love this entire video, I have watched this so many times that I notice small things in the action and timing with the music.
I honestly don't understand some of the changes that seem like unnecessary cuts. Like it seems they were cut for the sake of fitting a time frame which I would be excited for that it means they might be trying to fit a request for a producer or company as a pitch. Valve fucking shirked their chances for a show because they just couldn't restrain themselves of handling the deadline and requirements professionally. Like passion is important but frustrating as it is you work with restraints for a reason so that you don't go overboard and end up with a really messy project. Like Metal Gear 4 with how it became the game of all time. Fan fare galore and a weird production history behind it that tried to push the envelope further.
@@creepdimensions2405it could also just be that they preferred this changes, some other creators also do this kind of things, for example One Punch Man manga is a little infamous for this, they will redraw, rerelease and remake completed chapters and even complete arcs, the current one an example of this
I kind of miss the little talking hand gesture Blot originally made at 2:27. I understood it as them trying to convey that they just wanted to contribute to the execution suggestions. Still happy to see this reuploaded though. I have, no joke, rewatched this over 10 times. Totally worth showing at film festivals.
I love the detail in Ms. Conduct's hair always moving. Also the idea of an assassin that can fold like origami and uses origami as a weapon. This is more than promising
I love the way this is done with it showing the villain's perspective rather than the hero's. I've always been a sucker for interesting villains. Sometimes heroes can be quite boring if they have basic motivations.
I have a theory: Aviv Jacobi, the guy in the suit, is The Red Eclipse. Now hear me out... There's a hint of red in his suit. He looks like a dashing rouge, which can be either the good or bad guy. Out of everyone in the room, he seems... normal, even compared to Encyclopath. He knows the criminals enough to predict some of their thoughts, like with Blot not using a single word, but he knew the Blot wanted to use a piano. We've seen other heroes, like Batman, slip into personas to be among their rouges gallery. Now why would he hire an assassin on himself? He would be pulling money away from criminal elements by having the crime bosses pay for the assassin, as well as diminish their hopes of wining by beating this superb fighter. This would cause them to see their ways as incorrect, and thus more open to rehabilitation, reducing their numbers, and thus slowly but surely removing crime from his streets. Of course, I could be wrong... What does everyone else think?
Alternatively he's the only normal member of the rogues gallery but he's a clever enough criminal he's managed to outlast his fellow mob bosses, like if Carmine Falcone was able to last a good while into Batman's career.
his personality is probably a mix of small child, bruiser and trickster toon. he probably does the same things as trickster archetype cartoon, with the catch that the people he's tricking aren't afforded the same tankiness as most cartoon antagonists
I'm working on creating a superhero comic with my friend and it really hurts to know I'll never think up a single character as creative as this cast. Bravo!
I said it in the previous upload and I say it again, enclyclopath must be incrediple at manipulating people, cause those henchman were willing to die brutally just to test origami and enclycopath was not at all pahased by his whole crew dying which means theres either alot more of them or he can easily get new ones which surport my master manipulator theory and considering his name being so good with words that you can brainwash people into being willing to die for you seems fitting for him.
I don’t really know if they’re entirely human, since that one guy who got decapitated was slapping his hand on the floor, insinuating he was “tapping out.” This shows that he was still alive and not phased by literally having his head cut off!! Or maybe it’s just cartooniness, who can really say lol
List of changes from the original: the cutting motion from blot is gone (was at 2:25). the encyclopath has gained glasses (which previously were wrinkles). the animation is much smoother in some areas. the phone number on origami has changed. some of the dialogue is shorter. more blood and torn clothing was added to henchmen. more sound effects were added to origami.
Theory’s on some of the backstories Verdict: this man was once a respectable judge but after one too many people circumventing the law drove him mad and when his boss let him go, this drove him insane and he believes everyone is guilty and for in he’s the judge and he has the power to judge. Blot: an inspiring animator who rose in popularity, but as his animation crew was losing money he started to copy checks of certain individuals. This came to bite him in the ass one day when a mafia boss sent goons after him and killed him by throwing his body into an experimental ink machine. He awoke the next day as an amorphous blob of ink Miss Conduct: a school teacher who’s been planning and experimenting a new method of energy but when it was time to unveil it, an accident happened. Her body fell into the machine and she became the “fuse” for it. The machine worked but turned miss conduct into an energy being
Encyclopath: A college professor that got fired because people could not understand his classes due to his advanced grammar and so he turned to a life of crime to sustain himself and teach people proper grammar.
Lady L: once a simple retailer without a care in a world, when a group of criminals broke into the furniture store she was working at. They proceed to shoot her, causing her to trip and get tangled into a section of lamps and headlamps. Then, the authorities made a secret deal with the criminals to modify her body into that of a lamp, forcing her to join a group of criminal outcasts.
Man, I can't believe it's already been a whole year since this stellar piece of animation came out. Only feels like yesterday when I was still in high school on summer break and I stumbled upon this masterpiece.
The animation, characterization, and storytelling are all on point. Can wait to complain that I liked this before it was mainstream in a few years when it's all anyone is talking about.
Every one of these designs go so hard. Even just the basic goons each are so distinct, and how every character moves is so smooth and feels natural. Each one of the rogues feels like they're from a different show, yet mesh together so well here, and Origami herself is so well animated that it took me several watchs to fully understand her movements, and i mean that in the *good* way! Realizing that she did the sawhead thing because she stopped moving her neck during the kicks, or seeing that she used the bullet she was shot with to shoot the other guy, or just recognizing she was immitating a scorpion? *Chef's kiss* It made all her movements go from just "oh thats Cool" to "Jaw-dropping" and i love that. Encyclopath especially stands out as a strong design, and the reveal of his nane in the credits honestly was brilliant to explain his actions and reactions in a single frame.
The guy slipping on his own eyeball after having his face caved in is absolute PEAK dark comedy. And I love how you created some genuinely intriguing mystery with Origami. It's one thing to say nothing, it's another thing to say just enough that the viewer understands _less._
I got a kick out of The Blot looking over at her with a little smile on his face then continuing with his mimickry of Encyclopath. Like he's just a big kid looking for approval for his act.
Ms. Conduct is such an insanely detailed character. "miss conduct" referring both to 'misconduct' as her villain status, and 'conduct' as in electricity is such a brilliant play on words. She both has ADD and is queer, which sheds new light (ha) on her mention of psychotherapy; in the setting of what looks to be a 1920s-chicago-esque nameless city, intense therapy for lesbians and especially lesbians with identifiable attention deficit disorders would probably have included shock therapy. I also love the added detail of her burning her number into Origami's arm instead of using a pen.
I’ve watched this so many times I’ve lost count cause all the little details just keep bringing me back 😩 like at 3:18 when Origami hits that pose some poker chips just fly up. Like you didn’t need to animate such a minute detail and yet you did ugh I love this so much
I keep coming back to this, the style is amazing and the creativity with everything from the character designs to the way they all animate with such personality and their implied abilities is so much fun!!
For anyone wondering why it was down, it was because the number Miss Conduct writes. Apparently it was a real-ish number. I imagine the re-upload replaced it with a completely fake number.
I love how each villain has a very clear characterization and potential MO from how they interact with eachother. Encyclopath loves wordplay and getting people lost in his thesaurian dialect to distract them from other matters, and as a result is a more meticulous mastermind. Lady L is a femme fatale who's clearly very good at blending in and keeping to herself, but is also a very proactive person and knows a chance to strike it big when she sees one. Ms. Conduct is a full-on supervillain mad scientist who ends up being the most human and physically deadly of the bunch because she doesn't bother with a filter or the idea of civility. Blot is mostly just doing things because they can, more often than not because it's funny. They don't care, or maybe even understand, that their antics hurt people. And Verdict is persecution complex personified, seeing all society as guilty of any and every crime under the sun, and is looking to do anything he can to enforce justice. And of course, the leading lady Origami was WONDERFULLY animated, showing just how inventive a combination of razor-sharp limbs and unrivaled contortionism her suit gives her when combined with all the ingenuity she shows in how to take control of the fight. And dear god does she know how to finish a fight. And that ending shot... it gives her a lot of depth. She's living VERY spartan and creating a senbazuru piece with the money she got for taking the job, presumably because she's put EVERYTHING into turning herself into a weapon to afford something. A wish she desperately needs to come true, something worth becoming a weapon to grant for herself.
Aviv's gimmick is that he doesn't have one. He's a mostly normal crime boss, and yet it seems that more than anyone, he has the biggest beef with the Red Eclipse. Makes me think that he's the Red Eclipse's main Rival, and the most serious of his Rogue's Gallery.
Those details with an vocabulary word on some of the henchmen's hat like "cockalorum" which means boastful and self-important person. It adds that bit of personality in charecters we otherwise know nothing about, and I love that. I cant wait to see more of your work!
Big hench's hat being Maven also adds bit of respect you wouldn't really know other people in his organisation have if there was nothing on those hats. Encyclopath probably himself saw and recognised his talents to gift it or possibly promoted him to it.
If you slow down the video and pay attention in 4:37, when the henchman punches Origami, the mask slips and you can see her face for a brief moment, insane attention to detail.
This is so rough around the edges and it shows that it was hand made and made with passion and care. I love this style and it's a shame we don't see it any more often in general.
As a huge superhero nerd I adore this. Don’t get me wrong I love Batman iron man Superman the greats but I’m tired of their same old stories as much as I love them.
Coming back to this gem at the end of the year. I feel like in comic book terms:
* Encyclopath is a golden age villain, classic 1940s mobster with a colorful gimmick type.
Then what’s blot?
@@deltamills5641 Silver age, as I said.
@@RememberTheDead Yes, but what's Blot?
I could argue Avi is Modern Age (after the edgelord era of the 90s), since he isn’t over the top violent like Origami.
It reminds me of the BTAS episode “Almost got ‘em” and I love it!

@@zzodysseuszz i just said that Red Eclipse has a better rogue's gallery than most heroes, not that there are some unique concepts.

From Merriam-Webster...
Factotum (noun):
1. A person having many diverse activities or responsibilities.
2. A general servant.

Calling these mad men hench would be an insult.
I suppose that is why he is called the "Encylo-path".
Factotum made me laugh, but "Vapulate" had me rolling.
I love the subtle characterization afforded to every character in such a short time frame.
-Encyclopath's cards being neatly sorted in ascending order (and then swiftly shuffled in descending order)
-Miss Conduct's nervous fidgeting that goes away after the Origami fight
-Verdict listing Red Eclipse's offenses like he's building a legal case
-Blot holding his cards in a messy pile and trying to cheat in a trivial game (honestly, everything Blot does)
-Lady L gracefully switching the light bulb and readjusting her chair
-Aviv's momentary pause before putting the cigarette in his mouth to free up his arms in order to lift the box, maybe a little uncertain in his decision to order a priceless assassin via freight
-Origami squinting at Miss Conduct when she realizes that she's coming on to her
Don't forget the reveal that Origami is taking her entire pay and just
Folding it into paper cranes

Analysis of the gathered villains:
Encyclopath- A polymath along the lines of Bookworm or Riddler with a propensity for elaborate, multi-layered crimes, often at the behest of others given his mention of benefactors.

I am glad we agree that blot has the potential to be the most dangerous.
Jacobi has like... four suits on too. Don't know what that means but, well there ya go.
Good thing I managed to download the original before it was taken down.

Before we kick off this definition-fest, here's one to start us:
*Factotum - "An employee who does all kinds of work".*
3:17 - "Cockalorum" - "A boastful and self-important person".
(And, even then, if we're splitting hairs, he technically only lasts 10 seconds, given how by the time Origami grabs him, the fight is basically over.)
**BONUS ROUND:**
2:18 - "Vapulate" - "To flog or whip; beat or strike." Another slang word that has since fallen out of fashion.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to touch some grass.

i never even knew he had glasses until the reupload
There was a post credit scene?
Maybe her wish is to kill Red Eclipse, yeah, I it's shallow, but so does batman villains, which isn't a bad thing, we like them that way
I actually thought it might be the opposite. When Orig-Yami is shot, you can see human skin under their paper body. Maybe they successfully built the 1000 cranes, and wished for the powers they have today?
And if there's 100 $100 bills, it's a thousand, in a way lol
you know i maybe imagining things but when i first saw Verdict i couldn't help but think "whats so intimidating about a stooped backed old man"? then i rewatched the video and realized he actually has very thick arms as well as a large body mass overall then it hit me he is probably one of those secretly super muscle-bound old men and uses the robes to hid how big/strong he his. Like i could totally see him cracking his back straight and adding like 2 feet to his height before using a over-sized gavel as a mallet.
plus he probably had quite the bull neck in his earlier life if the flaps of skin on his neck are anything to go by
In his prime he’d be always standing, the robes that one would assume is his whole body merely just covering his massive trapeziums/neck muscles

Given how the judge is going on like that, it could be that the Red Eclipse isn't a hero, but is rather a criminal who has gotten so bad that other criminals are trying to think of a way to stop them.
They are probably a vigilante
Its probably their way of seeing things, obviously a judge would go into more technical ways of describing someone’s actions, but it isn’t that far of what Batman is doing
It’s pretty cool to think of Red Eclipse because they could be anything from a Hellboy type of detective or a Punisher type of characyer
Its pretty obvious he's framing it as if the Red Eclipse is the criminal by purposefully twisting legal lingo. His character comes across as being delusional, as he still presents himself as a Judge - and therefore an agent of "law and order" - despite clearly being a criminal.
Verdict was probably talking about what he did to fellow villains, like how Batman does things like that sometimes

Encyclopath: its in the name, hes a psychopath who's taken in villainy as probably a way to get his darkest thoughts out into the world. took right into the mob life style real well
Ms. Conduct: A scientist turned villain, from her ADD and other demeanor most likely on the spectrum. my guess is she was so excited about finding out a experiments result she tossed aside the safety to instantly get into it. most likely the least evil of the bunch as she states the "lack of psychotherapy?" because shes more self aware of her conditions
Blot: with his abilties its safe to say in this style of era he was an animator of some kind and was turned into a ink being, he clearly has some fascination with cartoons. most likely an introvert who uses his transformative powers to show how he really feels

Its insane how quickly you get the characters personalities across in this, literally in the very first sequence...
Encyclopath arranges his cards in numerical order, displaying that he is a silent but organized sort of criminal
Verdict voices his irritation at the tapping sound, asserting the insistence of his authority as a 'judge' and quickly illustrating that he is a cordial but impatient man (with a silent knock of cards from Encyclopath, as if to signify his agreement with Verdicts opinion)
Of course Miss Conduct is constantly tapping, clearly displaying that she is more volatile, neurotic, and high energy then the rest of the crowd
The Blot idly changes the values of his cards to his benefit, displaying that he is an unscrupulous trickster
And then the interjection from Lady L, both defensive and beleaguered as she tries to defuse the tension, clearly defining herself as one of the most laid back of the group
All done in under 45 seconds... the attention to detail is peerless!

Don’t forget that Miss Conduct scribbling her name on Origami clearly shows that she is in some way into women; so the idea isn’t completely out of left field

Making the red eclipse have a matches Malone type alter ego could be a fun concept

Alternatively he's the only normal member of the rogues gallery but he's a clever enough criminal he's managed to outlast his fellow mob bosses, like if Carmine Falcone was able to last a good while into Batman's career.
@@WTFisTingispingis Now that is a good concept for an arch nemesis
I would have almost say the same thing though I’m used to the traditional concept but yeah it’s a concept that’s never been touched before
I need more time with Blot. Seems like the most innocent villain there.
Me too
his personality is probably a mix of small child, bruiser and trickster toon. he probably does the same things as trickster archetype cartoon, with the catch that the people he's tricking aren't afforded the same tankiness as most cartoon antagonists

Also I just realized that Lady L is a reference to Ann Landers who become known for giving advice on men who wore lampshades on their heads
I think they were always glasses, it just wasn't clear that that's what they were supposed to be.
there's also writing on the hats on the henchmen now
0:28 so is this Verdict character married? I noticed he had a wedding ring on his finger
Huh i never noticed that. It seems to be on his pinky finger though
4:06 i find this scene funny because oragami uses a knife that turns into a katana like sword which is an eight "fold" blade!
Theory’s on some of the backstories
Verdict: this man was once a respectable judge but after one too many people circumventing the law drove him mad and when his boss let him go, this drove him insane and he believes everyone is guilty and for in he’s the judge and he has the power to judge.
Blot: an inspiring animator who rose in popularity, but as his animation crew was losing money he started to copy checks of certain individuals. This came to bite him in the ass one day when a mafia boss sent goons after him and killed him by throwing his body into an experimental ink machine. He awoke the next day as an amorphous blob of ink
Miss Conduct: a school teacher who’s been planning and experimenting a new method of energy but when it was time to unveil it, an accident happened. Her body fell into the machine and she became the “fuse” for it. The machine worked but turned miss conduct into an energy being
Encyclopath: got bitten by a radioactive dictionary.
Encyclopath: A college professor that got fired because people could not understand his classes due to his advanced grammar and so he turned to a life of crime to sustain himself and teach people proper grammar.
What about Lady L?
@@brockbruss256 That's a lamp.
I'm so happy I stumbled upon this. It's a hidden gem!!
*Chef's kiss*
It made all her movements go from just "oh thats Cool" to "Jaw-dropping" and i love that.
4:51 You could say those guys got folded 😂😂😂
I’ll see myself out…
Ahaha 😂
No no come back
@@mrtree.1 I guess I left too soon! Lol!
Good pun
2:07 The way Ms. Conduct was initially taken off guard by Blot's antics. 😂😅😂
I got a kick out of The Blot looking over at her with a little smile on his face then continuing with his mimickry of Encyclopath. Like he's just a big kid looking for approval for his act.
The animation, creativity as well as the ingenuity is astonishing. The voice acting and humor is breathtaking as well. 🎭
Full series, comic book, short stories, napkin scrawlings… whatever it takes to get more of these characters, please!
It's morbid but honestly funny. I like it.
Really love it when characters have a wealth of lore just from something as simple as their names.
gay
She's also the only one without any shading. Given she's made of electricity
Could've named her AD/DC too
I’ve watched this so many times I’ve lost count cause all the little details just keep bringing me back 😩 like at 3:18 when Origami hits that pose some poker chips just fly up. Like you didn’t need to animate such a minute detail and yet you did ugh I love this so much
4:03 Something I didnt notice before, Oragimi's dagger gets bigger with each swing. Neat.
I keep coming back to this, the style is amazing and the creativity with everything from the character designs to the way they all animate with such personality and their implied abilities is so much fun!!
Was verdict's animations based on the judge from the animated segments of Pink Floyd's The Wall film?
2:25 this has to be the most clever joke I have seen in an animation before
For anyone wondering why it was down, it was because the number Miss Conduct writes. Apparently it was a real-ish number. I imagine the re-upload replaced it with a completely fake number.
blot's hand motion is also changed at 2:25
I love how each villain has a very clear characterization and potential MO from how they interact with eachother.
This is a great piece of work, I'm glad i got reccomened it again
hate is an overstatement, but I liked blots sign language type deal, sorry for the negativity
I don’t care if it’s a reupload I’ll take any excuse to watch this again
Damn, TH-cam is being cruel to this masterpiece.
Welp, better archive it.
Not this time. The phone number turned out to be a real electrical company number still in use. They got flooded with calls.
@@marksmanof117b Oh! They changed the number!
Woe, it must have been really bad.
@@marksmanof117b that’s a genius connection, though
@@marksmanof117b thats so clever lolll
ho no una bariante mia.
And if a new thing comes out yeah I’ll still give it a shot and love it. But really I want something new in the genre. Now this this is new. I fucking love this rouges gallery you’ve made for a superhero we haven’t even seen yet. It always feels like theirs so much depth and lore here with how you’ve set everything and everyone up im just immediately invested please keep up the great work. This is fuckin awesome and I’d pay to see it
