Don't forget the glorious New World pinot noirs ! Tasmania's Ninth Island wines are dry and clean and full of cherry and blueberry flavours even when very young. The ninth island is one of several mystical tiny islands off the north coast of Tasmania shrouded in mist but totally dedicated to producing wines of a superb concentration of flavour ( cherries , strawberries and boysenberries) smooth and delicate tannins (which are also high in antioxidants ) and a lingering hint of raspberry and pepper.
I've been lucky enough to try some of these wines. And I got to say, sometimes you're paying more for the names than the actual quality. They weren't bad per say. Just, some of these bottles were expensive and not worth the price (to me). If you can find a bottle of wine for $20 bucks that tastes really good, why spend $150 for a bottle that's just okay?
@@michaelpeckham5928 Burgandy and Bordeaux are two different things. And whether your palate is refined enough isn't really the point. You can have something like a Grand Cru Lafite Bordeaux, and while you may be able to appreciate it for it's history and pedigree, you may still not enjoy the taste. Everyone's personal preference for wine is different. The simple truth is: Drink what you like, everything else is irrelevant. Doesn't matter if it's $10 Barefoot Pinot Grigio, or Chateau Margaux.
I’d like to say that this is the case for every notable wine region. Whether it’s Napa or Burgundy, you’ll find wines that hold values because of their name. I’ve had Opus One and they’re most “affordable” wine, Overture, was still $160. And I’ve had other Napa wines that were significantly better for less money
Burgundy is a special place since they use a single type of grapes. Good years will be great and bad years will be... Not as great. Vintage matters a lot more than it does in Bordeaux.
In Burgundy we do not consider Beaujolais as part of our region. Terroir, climate and grape variety are different (doesn't impede us to love their wines! :) ). Very nice video!

I honestly think it’s partly due to the production value. The moderator’s heart is obviously not in it (since he didn’t even bother to learn how the pronounce most of the French words... I seriously doubt he drinks wine). The script was dry and blandly-informative like a technical instruction video... that forgot to include how the wines are actually made. Fortunately, the French experts were able to breathe some life and context into this “lecture”, and were able to make it a little more interesting than it might have otherwise been. I would have loved to hear a few interviews from locals who aren’t experts. I’d like to know how the feel about their wines,..and the wines of other regions. I’d like to know how it affects their lives... do they drink the wines from their region?... everyday?

The judgement of paris woke the world up to this. The french produce amazing wines.. but so does any other wine producing region. Look at California, beating the hell out of the french on more than one occasion for example. Italy, Spain, south Africa. Great times to be a wine lover.
Dark Realist - True story. I was at a blind tasting being led by Master Sommelier Matt Stamp. We were tasting a wine that we knew to be a Pinot, but we were arguing as to where it was from. Before the reveal, Mr. Stamp said that if there is an argument between whether the wine is from California or Burgundy, it’s probably from Oregon. Which is where the wine was from. 😉

and blueberry flavours even when very young. The ninth island is one of several mystical tiny islands off the north coast of Tasmania shrouded in mist but
totally dedicated to producing wines of a superb concentration of flavour ( cherries , strawberries and boysenberries) smooth and delicate tannins (which are also high in antioxidants ) and a lingering hint of raspberry and pepper.

I've been lucky enough to try some of these wines. And I got to say, sometimes you're paying more for the names than the actual quality. They weren't bad per say. Just, some of these bottles were expensive and not worth the price (to me). If you can find a bottle of wine for $20 bucks that tastes really good, why spend $150 for a bottle that's just okay?

@@michaelpeckham5928 Burgandy and Bordeaux are two different things. And whether your palate is refined enough isn't really the point. You can have something like a Grand Cru Lafite Bordeaux, and while you may be able to appreciate it for it's history and pedigree, you may still not enjoy the taste. Everyone's personal preference for wine is different. The simple truth is: Drink what you like, everything else is irrelevant. Doesn't matter if it's $10 Barefoot Pinot Grigio, or Chateau Margaux.
I’d like to say that this is the case for every notable wine region. Whether it’s Napa or Burgundy, you’ll find wines that hold values because of their name. I’ve had Opus One and they’re most “affordable” wine, Overture, was still $160. And I’ve had other Napa wines that were significantly better for less money
Burgundy is a special place since they use a single type of grapes.
Good years will be great and bad years will be... Not as great.
Vintage matters a lot more than it does in Bordeaux.

I don't think wines are allowed in burgundy unless you are a high ranking official.
In Burgundy we do not consider Beaujolais as part of our region. Terroir, climate and grape variety are different (doesn't impede us to love their wines! :) ).

I honestly think it’s partly due to the production value. The moderator’s heart is obviously not in it (since he didn’t even bother to learn how the pronounce most of the French words... I seriously doubt he drinks wine).
The script was dry and blandly-informative like a technical instruction video... that forgot to include how the wines are actually made.
Fortunately, the French experts were able to breathe some life and context into this “lecture”, and were able to make it a little more interesting than it might have otherwise been.
I would have loved to hear a few interviews from locals who aren’t experts. I’d like to know how the feel about their wines,..and the wines of other regions.
I’d like to know how it affects their lives... do they drink the wines from their region?... everyday?

The judgement of paris woke the world up to this. The french produce amazing wines.. but so does any other wine producing region. Look at California, beating the hell out of the french on more than one occasion for example. Italy, Spain, south Africa. Great times to be a wine lover.
Dark Realist - True story. I was at a blind tasting being led by Master Sommelier Matt Stamp. We were tasting a wine that we knew to be a Pinot, but we were arguing as to where it was from. Before the reveal, Mr. Stamp said that if there is an argument between whether the wine is from California or Burgundy, it’s probably from Oregon. Which is where the wine was from. 😉
The price difference between the true stuff and its imitation is not limited to wine...
