In early December, I had a brilliant evening capturing street photography around Soho in London, with my Fuji X-T4 and 50mmF2 lens. Focusing primarily on the lights and festive signage, I got a ton of images in only a couple of hours! What started as just a quick evening, ended up being one of my most successful days out with my camera for 2021!
I was primarily capturing photos for my livestream with Adobe Live, all about "My festive story", but figured I'd vlog the evening as well - I'm so glad I did! I feel like it captures the true vibe of taking images in London and has me excited to return to the streets for more!

Cheers - I knew at the time of filming this one it was gonna have a good pace. Everything just flowed so well and I was in such a good mood too. It’s amazing how far that alone can take a video!
Happy New Year Joe and Elly! You two have been so consistent with the videos lately and my husband and I have truly been enjoying them. You got so many amazing shots and it was really inspiring. Happy New Year to you both! Takes me back to the early '70s, when I used to work in Soho Square, although the Bath House pub in Dean Street seems to have given way to Crossrail ;-)
Oh wow, I bet Soho in the 70s was such a vibe! I always enjoyed my time at agencies when they were based in the area. After work drinks haven’t been the same since leaving, but the other perks make up for it! Happy new year too!
Happy New Year! Love the shots is this vlog. Really makes me eager to shot night photography but the south of France is really dark and there is no lights or neon around… may 2022 be the year travel opens up again! 🍻🤞🏻
Happy new year to you too! I always love night photography, but know exactly how you feel when there just isn’t enough light to balance it out. It’s even harder when filming it as there’s less flexibility for boosting the exposure/brightness. I actually find London to be quite dark haha!
@@joeallam yes it is except maybe Soho and Square Mile maybe?! Your Japan night and rain photography vlog is one of my favorite as well with neon colored lights and reflections on the ground 👌🏻📸
Hi Joe, you have spoken about damping down streets and in this video it is a dry day.
A tip from Scott Kelby is to crank up Clarity to 100% and brush over the streets and footpaths then repeat.
This will give a wet look to the selected areas.

Real neon making a comeback in London. All those signs looked like the real thing not digital LED.
Really good editing, noone can distinguish from film type photography.

You get lovely colours in your pix. I am very new to Fuji having just bought an x-e3 with 18, 23, 35 and 18-55 and am struggling to get it setup as the menu for me is pretty confusing. Used Canon for 20 years and now use a Sony A7 and thought that menu was bit difficult but the fuji!!! As a normal way of working where do you set the highlight/shadow tones as well as colour, sharpness, noise reduction etc? Do you always use your presets? I enjoy watching your videos.
I love night photography 🤩, and those are lovely images! Do you have a preferred recipe for night shooting?

Joe, had a question for you. I use the R5 for vlogging as well, and I have to keep the Image stabalisation OFF on my lens ( Which i think also disables IBIS ) because otherwise there is just too much wobble, I use the RF 15-35 2.8. It wobbles even when i am standing and holding the camera at myself. So I see you walking with your R5, and I wonder how it doesnt trouble your vids, also they dont loook tooo shaky so I dont think you keep the IS off. So, please help me out on the settings front.

I noticed you look to be using the lens hood style typically available for the 23/35mm. Is their a hood for the the 46mm diameter found on the 50mm F2 or did you adapt to make it fit? If so what did yo use? Love the 50mm F2 but not so crazy about the supplied lens hood. Thank you,
Cheers! Yep, Malta feels like a distant memory since October, but glad we managed to get the trip in. The lens hood I use is a third party one: amzn.to/3FNW4v3 You'll have to double check size you need as they offer multiple options.

Maybe interestingly, HOUSTON is pronounced "Houseton" in New York and "Hughston" in Texas. At least, that is what I remember the people in NYC and Houston, Tx. saying!
