The Great Chicago Fire started on the evening of Sunday, October 8, 1871 on West De Koven Street near Patrick and Catherine O’Leary’s barn. Rumors started almost immediately that the fire was caused by the O’Learys' cow kicking over a lantern left in the barn by Mrs. O’Leary, but what really happened?
