Clara and The Doctor have the most interesting relationship in all of doctor who (besides master/doctor). Her personality became much stronger during Capaldi's era so I'm glad she stayed. I personally enjoy the companions who challenge and bicker with the doctor the most so she quickly became one of my favourite characters.
Next to Rose, Clara is my favourite companion. I love her and her relationship with the Doctor. You hear a lot that 12 and Clara were not romantic, but I disagree. Their relationship was one of the more romantic. That's not to say that's all it was though. The Doctor and Clara became so intertwined with one another in many ways, that they became almost two sides of the same coin. She was very much the Doctor's equal.
Exactly, well mentioned and I agree with that. Their relationship was true romance and more than the actors themselves and even SMoffat himself confirmed it. You will hear NO from some fans, who tend to fall into prejudice just because of the actor's physical appearance, when in the series the doctor is thousands of years old, who were not even questioned when the love relationship between Ten/Rose was seen. But if it's about Twelve/Clara, there is controversy and even disgust for them
Completely agree! I think 12 and Clara had one of the more interesting bonds and, in my opinion, the strongest romance. They may have expressed it differently than 10/Rose or 11/River etc but it was very obviously there.
What you get when you mention Clara is she raises a lot of contention. It really all depends on how individuals view certain character types and usually says a lot more about the people making the critique and their subjective tolerances than it does about the characters themselves. When Jenna Coleman left the series, she and Peter Capaldi were at a convention and Peter presented her with a bouquet of flowers that was almost as big as she is. One or two hecklers, basically best to ignore them. The rest applauded.
Curiously, a couple of months ago I saw this clip from Shallow, and in the end I ended up liking this version more than the one by Lady Gaga and BC. I loved your edit. As for Twelve/Clara, I love them as a duo, they are perfect. They both complement each other, their relationship was complex, deep of codependency and their story was well developed throughout the series, this is something that is not often seen, even better than Rose's RTD /Here. and Moffat achieved that level of evolution with his characters without being too forced or exaggerated, not only with them but 11th and the Pond's is another example as well. and the essence of their entire relationship was to show you the level of love with which one can love someone you really care about, despite all those negative things he did to you, you are still there by his side to support him in the good times. and bad, showing that Unconditional Love that very few understand and practice...
Most of the "she stayed too long" comments came after it was revealed that she originally intended to leave during one specific episode. Her ending was written then they pulled a "it was a dream" ending after Capaldi and Moffat convinced her to stay. I'd say that what comes next is my favorite season of Doctor Who, and I really wonder if people would be so upset by Clara staying if it had always been intended.
So when the doctor first meets Clara she dies, then he meets her in another time period and he once again can't save her, creating her mystery box, then he meets Clara prime the original, goes on adventures, we discover why there are all the copies of her throughout time, later the Original Clara dies and that's when the doctor subjects himself to 4 and half billion years of torture and risk all of reality to bring her back
Great reaction as always, and I pretty much agree with the post and with your own insights on Twelve and Clara. I remember that I used to really dislike Clara when I first saw her episodes, but I must admit she grew on me on rewatch. I don't know if/how often you take recommendations from comments, but if you ever plan on reacting to another Torchwood edit, I recommend "Torchwood | Turn up the Faders" by gaygordons (I'm pretty sure that's right, or at least right enough to get a search result haha). I feel like it encapsulates the vibe of the show very well - living fast, living for the moment, etc. It's a bit dark, but more due to the themes? Anyway, rambling a bit, sorry, I just think that you might enjoy that frankly massively underrated edit.
I think she had a beautiful end, which was cheapened by bringing her back for that extra time. The dying over and over was a running gag with Rory, which worked, but it was drawn out too much with Clara and without the humor. I enjoyed the character, and while not my favorite companion I enjoyed her part of the story. I liked her chemistry with both Smith and Capaldi (and her brief scene with Hurt as the war doctor).
I'm a big Clara defender, a lot of the complaints about her can apply to Rose Tyler and Amelia Pond but I feel because this is around the time people started falling off and Moffitts 3rd time doing mystery box girl that people are much more critical of Clara that they gave a pass to previously
Clara is my 2nd most favourite companion, right after Donna. I'm definitely not part of the crowd who say she should have left at the end of season 7, as I very much enjoyed her and Capaldi. I enjoyed even her era with Smith, although it was rather short. This was my first time seeing this particular edit and it was beautiful. 👍
