    People who don't see the romance are letting the actors' ages cloud their judgment. There were blatant flirty moments with Clara and 11, and when he changed to 12, she had a hard time with the shift and he tried to distance himself from her, but failed miserably. With 12 it goes from a flirty romp to a deep understanding and love. I've often said that if Capaldi had been in his 30s, no one would be doubting it.

    I think a lot of people fail to appreciate the writing for their relationship, the fact her travelling with him started off wholesome and innocent (besides the doctor being confused about how he's met her twice already and she died both times) then for her it became an addiction she couldn't kick and her becoming more and more like him resulting in a dangerous combination of ego and confidence that got them into avoidable danger, and eventually she pushed it too far and ran out of luck. Thanks to the doctors hard earned intervention she did get to escape death to go travelling with someone else but she will eventually have to go back to her death and face the raven.
    And yeah she had a habit of dying lmao

    Imagine having to tell someone you love that you are ok. Having to convince them you have your own thing to do so that they can be happy going on eith their life. Is it easier to be believable saying it when you are looking them in the eyes or when you are hugging them? That's what I think about with the hugging line.
    Also, the early part of the Clara story can't be told in clips like this. I think it would have been to confusing. Instead they really showcased their bond. For some reason, she gets a lot of flack as a companion. I've always liked her.

    Doctor Who is always crazy xD.
    Honestly, Clara isn't my favorite companion, but their relationship is just so good.
    Also, if you want a little explanation. . .
    Clara died, and the Doctor tricked some people into bringing her into a court from the second before her death, paused so she could testify. He ran with her, was going to take away her memory, but she said she reversed the effect of the device. He didn't know if she was lying or not, so they decided to basically both go for it and see who's memory it erased. It erased his, and she travelled the universe with an immortal person, still stuck between two heartbeats, "paused", and would presumably one day go back to her death moment and finally say goodbye.
    Like I said, she's not my favorite (though I do love her), but their story is just so touching and sad 😭.
    Anyway, amazing reaction as always! I can't fault you for being too into it, lol, I see it as a good thing!

Doctor Who dialogue always sounds very poetic&calm to me and editors always do an amazing job at implementing those to songs so I often listen them as background music. Capaldi's Doctor with Clara cover Series 8 & 9 of Doctor Who. I highly reccomend watching their story, it's really beautiful. The last two-three episodes of Series 9 is some of the best TV I've ever seen. Series 8 & 9 is probably the most adult the show has been, it's very well written. It's all about the drama.

    In reference to the line, the embrace of a hug being corrupted by someone you should be allowed to trust is unsettling and makes me almost feel emotionally violated. - Source (trust issues man i.e. me).
    You can never know what someone hugging you is truly thinking. Do they care, or are they just doing it to keep you in their good graces for when you may be useful to them in the future?

    Ok so the whole she's died lies of times thing happened because when an event of the Doctor jumped into the rift in spacetime his journey caused, the enemy scattered throughout the doctors entire life and was killing him everywhere in every moment all at once and Clara the long term companion jumped in and became a whole bunch of scattered fragments in the doctors time stream running to save him, and in the process generally dying while dropping the line "run you clever boy and remember me" which was actually a mnemonic she created to remember a WiFi password for the house of the kids she was babysitting at the time she used an ordinary house phone to call the helpline someone gave her. Which happened to be the Doctors' TARDIS number.

    Clara is, how should I put this diplomatically, divisive within the fandom. That's for a couple different reasons. The most obvious is that her first season didn't spend that much time developing her as a character while she was instrumental to the Impossible Girl arc that many (including myself) thought was pretty disappointing.
    She did get more development alongside Twelve, to the point that she became a pretty complex character with her own flaws, aspirations, etc. But *then* a lot of people hated her because she was so brash, even giving the Doctor orders at times. Tbh a lot of that criticism reads to me as thinly veiled misogyny.
    And then there's the way she's written out of the show twice. As you saw, she did die in a way that was both heroic and foolhardy, and had that been the end of it, I think we would generally look upon her exit as one of the greats, especially since the Doctor spends an entire episode after that metaphorically/literally fighting through his grief to move on and keep living his life.
    Then immediately in the next episode, he goes back, interrupt her moment of death, and freeze her between heartbeats so she doesn't have to die. And, yes, this is framed as a bad thing for him to do within the story itself, but when Clara goes off gallivanting around the Universe in her own TARDIS for God-knows-how-long before claiming she'll eventually go back to die, that's framed as triumphant and good, actually. It was a highly contentious season finale, and it tarnished a lot of the good will Clara had built up over the previous two seasons.
    I think Clara was ultimately a cool character; I just wish that the head writer had a) better known what he was doing with her from the start, b) not had her as a long series of "But not really!" deaths he wrote over his time.

    • @natsmith303
      @natsmith303 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @renideo I don't think you quite understood that my "Not really!" deaths comment wasn't strictly about Clara but about Moffat's writing in general, including Rory.
      Even besides, I would have less issue with the ending of Hell Bent if Clara had simply gone right back to the Raven of her own accord rather than going around the Universe in perpetuity. *That* is the main thing that undercuts her ending, because it means her closure just doesn't matter. I'd still have issues with simply abandoning the return to Gallifrey after the entire revival and with "The Hybrid" being pointless, but that was the biggest problem.

    • @bookswithike3256
      @bookswithike3256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@natsmith303 The thing is, if she'd gone back to the Raven immediately that would have undercut her arc in a different way. In series 9 Clara is suicidal. Not metaphorically suicidal or just reckless but literally wants to die. This is the arc that carries all the way from Last Christmas to Face the Raven. In Last Christmas she refuses to wake up, preferring to allow herself to be killed by the dream crabs if it will allow her to live in this idyllic state in her last few moments. Only the Doctor forcing her to wake up saves her life. She 100% had the ability to wake herself up and chose not to. From then on she throws herself into every dangerous situation, basically daring the universe to kill her, which obviously culminates in her death in Face the Raven. But once she's resurrected she finds she doesn't actually want to die now that the choice has been presented to her in such a clear-cut way. She's scared of dying, and instead chooses to live a full life. It's a really important part of her arc that I think gets overlooked way too much. Her rejection of that grief-fuelled desire for self-destruction.

      @@ToddReacts Hmmm I am gonna have to disagree with what the above commenter said. Moffat, Capaldi, and Coleman have all confirmed on a number of occasions that 12 and Clara were in fact a romantic pairing. But definitely not father daughter. You saw this video as a love story of a romantic level because it is.

      @@izcanoli2539 true but they have also said the opposite. They are very coy about it and like the idea of the tension. I do believe that Clara and 11 were written that way. • @izcanoli2539
      @izcanoli2539 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cybersonic8472 I definitely can see the level of hesitation that they played with to be able to go either way if necessary. However, I do believe their love for each other was incredibly complex and layered in a way that could not be entirely addressed as father daughter. As a girl who is super close with her dad to think of them in those terms makes me real uncomfortable lmao. They may have planned that for series 8 but I would say by series 9 they had found that the chemistry was too deep and went that direction. The christmas special was definitely the turning point when the Doctor asked Clara if there had been anyone else. It was this last year too that Jenna doubled down on the romantic aspect of it in 2021. You are definitely right about the love being very deep though and touching many different aspects. I promise I did not want to be argumentative or confrontational, I did just want to give background for why I don't quite agree with the f/d statement. Hope you are having a good week!

    • @DontSigh
      @DontSigh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well. Some people see it that way, but it's always weird as fuck to me when people state that as fact. I think it's incredibly obvious that their relationship leans more in a romantic direction than anything else as it develops during Capaldi's seasons. Series 8 is a bit ambiguous about it but even then it felt to me as if the writers couldn't decide between writing the Doctor as a protective dad or a jealous lover, so it ended up being somewhere in between (which is part of why I think the character writing in series 8 is a bit off). At the end of the day there are tons of lines alluding to interest between them (especially on Clara's part), and the chemistry between the actors is really, really good.
      Look at 12 and Bill in comparison - that's a father-daughter relationship/chemistry if anything.
