When I heard the song was about Catholics vs Protestants, it kind struck me. I am Catholic and my best friend is Protestant. We have done research on each other’s beliefs and even attended each other’s church services. We have some differing beliefs but we respect each other. It isn’t even a tense point. Our friendship is too strong to let petty differences get between us. We have been there for each and helped each other through difficult times. I just get a weird feeling when I think that history has been full of bloodshed in part due to the differences between Catholics and Protestants. It makes me sad that the potential friendship and alliance between the two groups was squandered trying to kill each other over disagreements that ultimately don’t really matter. However, our friendship makes me hopeful for a future day where we can all get over our differences, not just Catholics and Protestants but everyone, and be united in peace and compassion for each other
I too am catholic and everytime someone mentions the 30 years war I get a feeling of like "neither of them were being true christians, there was no attempt of being Christ-like in their actions. " Hopefully we can all remain united in the blood of the lord, and never again divided by it.
well, and the Latin word comes from the Greek "phainein" (or mabye it's an Etruscan loan word), and then from Indo-European and so on. The point is that the word was made for that event using a German word, not a Latin word.
@@AMetalPotato Or rather the Latin fenestra was used for the international/fancy version and the German Fenster was used for the German version which is Fenstersturz. It was the 17th century, nobody was using German for fancy talk if they could help it. On the other hand, the word defenestration seems a bit improvised by someone not quite so well versed in Latin. @@steefant that's not how neologisms work, usually the derived work "recovers" a previous pronunciation and/or spelling, (usually from what was perceived as "the original" -back then-, or from an "elevated" or "classic" language or dialect -latin, greek, old germanic, etc-).
The 30 years war in my opinion was one of the seminal struggles of the early modern era. It's one of the biggest and last religious wars in Europe and ended by consecrating the nation- state above princely politics. It was the bitter twilight of one age and the bright beginning of the modern age. The last knights marched into this war but from the rear end of it came out true modern military tactics, new framework of religious tolerance and nation-states. Hejsan Grabbar!. Thank's for the great history channel. 👍 In a links video one can find a little piece of additional history of about Swedish armed forces, during the 30 yrs war, in Europe. The (in)famous and feared Hackapels (Hakkapeliitat) a.k.a. Finnish Cavalry. Depending of the source, their name comes either from their Finnish battle cry "Hakkaa Päälle!", or Swedish "Hacka På", meaning strike 'em down. Check out more, from here ... Suomalainen mytologia - Antti Palosaari . Hälsningar från "Svenska Österland". 😃
That moment when you defenestrate some guy and thereby start one of the greatest conflicts in European history. The 30 years war is talked way to little about as it is a very interesting if complicated conflict. The song is awesome aswell. One of the best on Carolus Rex, the Swedish version is even better imo.
7:45 Big mistake here. Sigismund didn't "introduced" Cossacks to European warfare. The forces he sent to HRE were composed of Lisowczycy or Elears which is something entirely different.
This Song as I have posted and several versions online maybe the single best retort to any who say sabaton Worships Violence and War. as it and more so the Swedish version is a sombre lament of the true first great war of europe. I have often read posts stating that it brings many to tears without any historical context as we all know the hell 4 or 6 years of war can be but three decades at the end of the medieval period everyone who would even listen to Sabaton knows that such a thing is almost beyond comprehension. The Song with historical background just from this video should never be taken as glorification but as a warning "It is good that War is so terrible, otherwise, we should grow too fond of it"- Robert E Lee
10:23 Wait that part of Bruno's backstory in We The Revolution has a historical precedent? I thought it was just something the devs made up to facilitate the story and use the dice game mechanics. Sure it happened to Bruno in what I think was the Austrian War of Succession, but it was still Prussian soldiers that made him gamble for if he got his arms cut off. It makes more sense that those specific soldiers remembered what their ancestors had done than coming up with it from thin air.
Another great one! Only 2 things I'll say: 1) I think "defenestration" actually comes from "fenestra", which is latin for "window" and 2) That's a really nice sabre in the background!! Keep up the great work, folks! PS: For those unfamiliar with the 2nd Defestration Of Prague, go check the story out. It's amazing...

@@SabatonHistory You are very welcome. You're awesome!
Was just listening to this song.
This song has my favourite guitar solo out of Sabaton's entire discography
My favorite song
I love a lifetime of war so much
"Who are you?"
"I was the King of Sweden"
-Gustavus Adolphus, before his death by Imperial Cavalry
Could yall please do a song on the Spanish Blue Division. It a really interesting unit and part of history that few people know about.
Are you the same one who liked this comment on the other video
Go to the sabaton site to suggest it
I have been doing it alot. I really want them to do that tropic
Incredible song! Also love that bloody Fender Strat!
So whens the 30 Years War: Week by Week?
After we finish the Punic Wars week by week
I can't for the 30 years war week by week!
Be honest, Indy. How many takes were there before you were able to say "recatholicisation"?
just one!
I hope you guys are doing well, I heard about the car crash in Tunisia.
6:52 this picture is about the massacre of St Barthélémy night, when the catholic of Paris slayed the parisian protestants.
You guys should just make a new one. I would love to see the ideas you guys have
Not a history buff, but I LOVE this channel AND Sabaton!

wishing you aII a speedy recovery.
I knew both your world war channels but had no idea about this one, what an awesome yt channel and more so being a sabaton fan
Thanks! We don't like to sit Idle ;)
That was awesome! I particularly liked the "I feel dirty. So f*cking dirty." Hilarious! Oh, somebody bring back that music video!! Right now!!
Get well soon!!!
Thanks for the info Kamil!
Man I love this song and channel
This Song as I have posted and several versions online maybe the single best retort to any who say sabaton Worships Violence and War. as it and more so the Swedish version is a sombre lament of the true first great war of europe. I have often read posts stating that it brings many to tears without any historical context as we all know the hell 4 or 6 years of war can be but three decades at the end of the medieval period everyone who would even listen to Sabaton knows that such a thing is almost beyond comprehension. The Song with historical background just from this video should never be taken as glorification but as a warning
"It is good that War is so terrible, otherwise, we should grow too fond of it"- Robert E Lee
9:40 so sickness kills more then actual fighting.
The hanging tree shown at 10:25 was the punishment for looters.
I really wish they get the music video back
Hey Indy, the picture of 2:12 is from the 1st defenestration 200 years earlier.
Joakim:I'm so fucking dirty
Me:that's quite a way to get de de de demonetized
10:23 Wait that part of Bruno's backstory in We The Revolution has a historical precedent? I thought it was just something the devs made up to facilitate the story and use the dice game mechanics. Sure it happened to Bruno in what I think was the Austrian War of Succession, but it was still Prussian soldiers that made him gamble for if he got his arms cut off. It makes more sense that those specific soldiers remembered what their ancestors had done than coming up with it from thin air.
It's impossible to have favourite Sabaton song but this one is very special for me btw it's my actual ringtone 😁
I had this song in my head when I got the notification
It's weird to hear these songs in English when you've always listened 'em in Swedish
The saber is a Replica 'Paton Saber', or Model 1913 Cavalry Saber
@@SabatonHistory Thanks!
Great video
