I would love to see a high-production series of dramatizing the history of the Swedish empire, following the songs that Sabaton has done. Get Apocalyptica to do all of the music for the whole thing.
At one Sabaton concert I went to in America (MD) the crowd started chanting "one more beer" in German. This so surprised Joakim that it prompted him to tell a joke: "What do you call someone who speaks two languages?" "Bilingual." What do you call someone who speaks three languages?" "Trilingual." "What do you call someone who speaks one language?" "American." As an American who has tried to learn several languages but has not become fluent, I thought it was funny. :-)
I think one of the issues with the language barriers here in the United States is unlike Europe we are not directly exposed to so many different languages being we are clear on the other side of the world bordered by countries that speak primarily English and Spanish. Where as in Europe you have a ton of different countries and languages packed together so tightly making the need or want to learn a second or third language a bigger deal. I personally, being someone who lives in America, love to hear songs in other languages. I listen to for example Rammstein and love their music and songs even if it is in German. Just makes me look up the lyrics so I can start to understand the songs and even learn some basic German in the process
Yeah, It fun to hear songs in different languages, but I agree with very few languages part, we have English, Spanish, some french in Canada and if you go really far south Portuguese, in brazil
Despite not knowing a lick of Swedish, I really like listening to the Sabaton songs in Swedish. It's a beautiful language. Someday I will learn it, but I'm trying to get the handle on Japanese first (which is a struggle lol).
American here and I LOVE hearing songs in other languages! Swedish, German, Polish, Finnish.... They sound beautiful to me. I just look up the translation and I am happy. Trying to learn more languages. :)
This is probably my favorite song from the album, and it got me interested in doing some of my own research on it and after that i was somewhat amazed because. I thought the story of his daughter was as interesting or even more interesting than his own story.
I know I'm probably in a small majority here, but if Sabaton did a US tour singing only in Swedish I would love it. Do I understand Swedish? Heck no, but you bet your ass I'd still be excited for it. Hell, like 60% of the bands I listen to sing in a language I don't understand and I still love it.
It would be interesting to have an episode about Albrecht von Wallenstein, as he was one of the most fascinating characters of the war and a seriously interesting story of a rags to riches ascent.
One of my favorite anecdotes about him was an Italian mercenary working in his army. He was paid to kill him. This man having no allegiance to Gustavus and on multiple occasions leveling his pistol at the king said he could not bring himself to kill such a man. Such was Gustavus' charisma and self-confidence. Thomas Roe said of him "I hope more of the King of Sweeden's own person than of all his country ... he is all and worth all" He also said, "He thinks the ship cannot sink that carries him". Such a level of self-confidence is infectious. It is no wonder his death at the Battle of Lutzen hit the Swedish military so hard.

@12:02 - "Herr Wilhelm! Nein!!! NEEIIIIIINNNNNNN!" Also, as someone who lives in Nevada (the wasteland around the capitol, not Las Vegas), the pronunciation is more correctly "Neväda." :) Either way, this is one of my favorite songs, thanks for talking about it!
Oh god I laughed so hard during this episode. The pun with the British and American being handicapped, when it comes to second languages and playing Swedish in Nevada... cracked me up :D :D
I remember the first time I saw Sabaton, it was in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2017. You guys gave us the choice of singing either "Poltava" or "Gott Mit Uns", and then in English or Swedish. The whole audience wanted "Gott Mit Uns" in Swedish and Joakim was like, "What the fuck? You guys been practicing your Swedish?"
When you guys were in Grand Rapids Michigan (U.S.A) in 2018 I remember Joakim asking the audience if they would prefer to hear Gott Mit Uns in Swedish or English. Us in the crowd overwhelmingly voted for Swedish, and I remember him saying "good because I forgot the English lyrics" Was a great concert. The band said that they'd never seen so many people crowdsurfing on a monday night. And a local WWI history group gave the band a certificate because they were bringing history to a new generation. They probably don't remember since they've been to hundreds of venues, but it was an amazing night and those moments really stick out to me.
Once I was in the front row of the Sabaton concert, and they were playing Carolus Rex, and I confused Joakim by screaming my lungs out in Swedish while they were trying to sing the English version of the song. And Cris was like "Nice, singing in Swedish, thumbs up." No the easiest way to sort this problem out - always, always sing the Swedish version. xD

I don't care what language you're singing in. Yall are awesome
@12:02 - "Herr Wilhelm! Nein!!! NEEIIIIIINNNNNNN!"
Also, as someone who lives in Nevada (the wasteland around the capitol, not Las Vegas), the pronunciation is more correctly "Neväda." :)
Either way, this is one of my favorite songs, thanks for talking about it!
If i'm not mistaken, you guys pretty much covered all the songs from the Carolus Rex album! (Besides Dominium Maris Baltici) Congrats boys!
Oh god I laughed so hard during this episode. The pun with the British and American being handicapped, when it comes to second languages and playing Swedish in Nevada... cracked me up :D :D
Man you guys are ramping up the history lessons. Keep it up!
Digging Indys coat.
Can we get a Fireside chat episode of Sabaton History please? complete with burgundy Robes and glasses of wine.
Nice timing by the algorithm to push this video today.
bro about time! my fav song finally gets a sabaton history vid
Having fun and talking about history that is what it is all about
When you guys were in Grand Rapids Michigan (U.S.A) in 2018 I remember Joakim asking the audience if they would prefer to hear Gott Mit Uns in Swedish or English. Us in the crowd overwhelmingly voted for Swedish, and I remember him saying "good because I forgot the English lyrics"
Was a great concert. The band said that they'd never seen so many people crowdsurfing on a monday night. And a local WWI history group gave the band a certificate because they were bringing history to a new generation. They probably don't remember since they've been to hundreds of venues, but it was an amazing night and those moments really stick out to me.
I absolutely love the Black and Yellow Overcoat/Trenchcoat/Coach (not sure which one) Indy's wearing.
Indy be styling on us. Nice.
What an intro love it
That is a great coat. I want one now.
Once I was in the front row of the Sabaton concert, and they were playing Carolus Rex, and I confused Joakim by screaming my lungs out in Swedish while they were trying to sing the English version of the song. And Cris was like "Nice, singing in Swedish, thumbs up." No the easiest way to sort this problem out - always, always sing the Swedish version. xD
If Joakim lied and is actually Chris then how do we know that Indy is Indy and not some imposter?
Indy is acting pretty sus.
What if Indy was not Indy, but Pär in disguise?
*insert Among Us joke here*
@@q-tip4723 are you sure you aren't the impostor
I always feel bad for Chris watching the intro, like come on, of course we'd love Chris to give his thoughts and answer questions too! 🙏
Damn, thats a nice Karoliner jacket Indy is wearing. Where can I get hold of one of those?
