  • An Inspiring Filipino Manong who I met in a local Philippines mountain village looked at me and said:
"You are the first. You are number one."
I was the first Canadian to explore here in the mountains of Kalinga. In this video you will see a VERY INSPIRING DAY for me. I found myself in a village surrounded by beautiful rice terraces and hanging out with two local Manongs. They invited me into their home, offered me coffee, and we learned a lot about each other. Not only that...
I learned a lot about how BEAUTIFUL the people are here in Kalinga and the Philippines.
Meet the inspiring Manongs of Lubuagan!
    Power On!

one thing i observed a lot about people coming from the city( not all) judges mountain people by their look.. take for example manong's look.. farmer clothing, dripping with sweat looks poor..but the big twist their is .. they are rich and their houses are big ..but they are really humble .. and they welcome any in their house without judging them...
    beautiful people really..

@@judithabdon4773 Hi Judith, based from experienced and growing up in Mankayan, Igorot people, most of them own big farmlands and some are mining company stockholders. Igorots do not scream to the world and broadcast what they have and what they accomplished unlike some regions and that's what amazing. Just like everybody, my parents came to Mankayan for one reason, employment and opportunity for their children to have better life which is education. Mining company gave them that opportunity. There are more highly educated people in this area compared to some regions in the nation.

@@amyban-os6242 This is the reason why I became Kulas' vlogg follower. He is so brave hopping from one town to another without guide showcasing to our politicians the good and bad of our country and what needs to be done. He might not be talking literally but his videos speaks volume and loud. There are many roads in the cordillera area that need widening, paving and improvement. Kulas' video became a voice for people that doesn't have one. Igorot community had been misrepresented and misperceived as well. Kulas' video is bringing awareness that Igorots are like the rest of the people in the nation. There are many foreigners living in the country but very few came forward to open what's there to explore and see to far places.

Kulas, out of all of the travel videos I’ve watched of the Philippines, this is truly the first on that pulled on my heart strings. We’re planning a trip there with my whole family and this will be the first time my children will see the country. We live in the Metro D.C. area in the U.S. We’re planning to celebrate our youngest daughter’s 14th birthday in the Cordlilleras Mountains and I hope that it will be memorable for her. These past few videos have been so insightful.
It also explains why my dad does what he does here when he meets strangers (like what the Kalinga brother did). In D.C. it’s an odd thing, but I hope it will always continue through to my children and future generations. Acts of kindness and love are invaluable.

Yes, I really love that scene when Kulas took off his Canadian T-shirt. Mang Teddy was reluctant to accept it because he will be travelling without a top shirt because Mang Teddy knows it was cold in the mountain. Mang Teddy really had a heart of gold. Thank you Mang Teddy for showing our Filipino hospitality at its best.

There's a lot of people like that in the Philippines specially in the province .Our car broke down in Batangas few years ago and these older couple invited us into their home, cook us dinner and the following morning , lolo went to the closest shop in the barangay and brought the mechanic while we were sleeping . Before we left , they even gave us a bayong full of Indian mangoes. It's crazy how much rivers they're willing to cross just to take care of their bisitas Stop watching too much news , there are way more decent and kind people in the world than the bad ones.

What do you mean, these aren't less fortunate people, they've got their own farms and houses unlike most people who live in the city or urban areas,in squatter areas or renting people with no stable jobs or life stability, these people love their place and can't leave it with its natural resources and legacy, setting aside the beauty bc they can't see/appreciate it themselves as they're very used of the views.Apologies in advance,if I got you wrong.

@@vwashington9992 I have access to almost everything, while they don't. Although what you said is correct, they are still in poor state, living far away from cities, with no access on government assistance, no healthcare, remote area with undeveloped roads. Don't get me wrong, i'm more than happy for them, but they are still in poor state.
