You can countersue (and specifically you can sue for "This guy is clearly suing me to stop me talking about him in public - his suit has no merit otherwise", but again, that costs money that the defendant probably does not have - which is basically the point here. Look up "SLAPP lawsuits".

I like the Regular show lawsuit ruling as it basically meant that in order to challenge it, Billy would have to admit that it was accurate that he had a huge ego and would "explode" when criticized lol

You can be banned from filing lawsuits if it's determined you habitually file frivolous lawsuits. Basically after that, a judge has to sign off before you can file.

It's cheaper to hire a hitman to kill someone suing you than it is to fight them in court.
It's also impossibe because virtually no hitmen really exist due to the fact that the concept of hitmen is totally illogical and stupid. Both for the client and the killer. The few only real hitmen out there are deep into mafias and corrupt governments. Who already know and work with each other regularly in the first place.
I think the court system needs to add in something where if a lawsuit is found to be frivolous the plaintiff automatically has to not only pay all court fees and lawyer fees for both sides, but also compensate the other person for the time they've wasted, without having to countersue. It should just be part of the whole thing by default.

A judge should be able to declare that a lawsuit was also frivolous in addition to dismissing it, making the person who filed it responsible for the other party's legal costs...or at least some of it.

Billy Mitchell would be legally considered a "public figure" when it comes to defamation. So not only would he have to prove that what you said was false. He'd have to also prove that you knew it was false and that you were intentionally trying to hurt him. These lawsuits are a complete waste of time.

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the issue is "pro-se litigation?" America believes you should have the right to air grievances in a court of law and makes it more or less free to represent yourself to do so. Essentially preventing the courts from gate keeping justice behind a pay wall, it makes sense but. People very often use it as a weapon.

yep, its the unfortunate other side. There's no perfect solution but as much as Billy boy sucks, I'd rather live in a system where its easy to go before a court than have one where things are basically impossible to try and fight. And I say this as someone who's been dragged to court and a victim of perjury to the point of causing me physical danger/harm.

I would donate to Jobst's legal defence fund, but this system is broken to begin with and there can always be another Billy Mitchell in the future. Someone who uses frivolous lawsuits to drain people. He already caused someone to end his life with this tactic and then laughed about it. To beat Mitchell would be wonderful, but the system would still remain the same.
The irony is that pictures taken by one of the organizers from the event he supposedly set his world record at show the machine and vcr used to record the run. No one knew these pictures existed tell now and seems great news for Billy tell you look at the machine. One glance and you can tell it's not original and comes with an 8 point joystick rather than the 4 point ones original machines have. This allows for movement not possible in original machines. Given that he stated publicly and in his lawsuits that he used 100% original machines this effectively nukes him out of the water. If you listen closely, you can hear the lawyers laughing themselves silly.

Mitchel probably didnt sue Sandler or the movie company. The MO of these guys is to always 'punch down'; go after people that can't defend themselves for lack of money. For example, Games Workshop has been on a long crusade to own the term 'Space Marine'. They have slapp-ed down small time authors using 'Space Marine' in their books. However, they notably avoid going after companies that would wreck them in court since the term has been in use since the 1950s (at least), which is known in law as "Prior Art". These notable exceptions include iD software, who refers to the hero of Doom as a "space marine" or 20th Century Fox for the Alien franchise which uses the term frequently with the Colonial Space Marines.

I thought that the protection provided to cartoons for these type of depictions has nothing to do with the likeness. It just that cartoons can parody celebrities. Like idk if that makes sense. But I didn’t think the judge would say “the cartoon doesn’t look or act enough like you so it’s not you” like I thought cartoon makers were allowed to drop celebrity parodies in their cartoons

Thing is you have to pay to defend yourself and then pay again to get justice. Any judge can see that this is bogus. Justice is about just that and you shouldn't have to suffer to defend yourself when it's obvious that it's a load of crap and the person is using the justice system for revenge. Wouldn't surprise me if Billy Mitchell takes it as far as he can and costs Karl jobst a boat load then withdrawal the lawsuit so Karl is left out of pocket and Billy would count that as a win.
